Everyone loves Glee don’t they? And why not, it’s a fantastic show. They dance, they sing and the storylines are great, really funny and surprisingly fresh and insightful. When I first started watching it, I had no idea how popular it was, I actually tried to recommend it to some friends only to find out that it was all the rage already. I mostly hang out with theatre people so you can imagine how obsessed they all are with this show, not only because they love watching it but because they want to be in it. The fact that they used mostly unknown young actors makes all the aspiring actors think; ‘that could’ve been me!’
There are some really great characters in Glee. In fact I don’t think there are any crap characters at all. You either love them or love to hate them. But there are of course those that stand out more than others and I’m here to tell you who they are.
#3. Will Schuster
Everyone’s favourite high school teacher Mr Shuster has to make the list. I’m sorry but he is way too hot not to. I mean did you see the episode where he was trying to seduce Sue? The man has the finest butt in the world. His character isn’t too shabby either. He is kind, sensitive and caring. He listens to the kids and tries to help them, but he’s not holier than thou either. He is a bit of a ladies’ man, without trying very hard I might add, and he can be a bit mean as he demonstrated when he did the impossible and brought Sue Sylvester down. But then of course he made it all better by giving her one of his pep talks and gave her the confidence she needed to get back to being the bitch that she is.
#2. Kurt’s Dad
Kurt’s dad is a favourite of mine. He is the original anti hero who surprised everyone when he not only accepted Kurt for who he was and defended his rights to be the person that he was to the point of forcing Shuster to let him audition for a female part, but eventually came to be proud of him as well.
#1. Sue Sylvester
This one is predictable I guess but the all time favourite Glee character is of course Sue Sylvester. Just as you think she is the devil incarnate, she turns around and casts a girl with down syndrome in her Cheerios and votes for New Directions as the winner of regional’s. I just hope she doesn’t lose her mean streak in the next season, which is what we all love her for.
I can’t wait for the next season of Glee. Here’s hoping they will keep up the good work! If you haven’t seen any of it yet I strongly recommend catching up on repeats or picking up the box set before the second series starts.

My daughter and I are spending this week watching the 1st season, so I am a new fan! Sue is hysterical! Will’s wife would be on my top 3 list. When she asked if the baby dropped out I was dying laughing.

LOL yeah definitely, she’s one of the ones I love to hate – the right combination of evil and dumb

There were so many moving moments this season that involved Kurt’s dad. The actor who plays him, Mike O’Malley, has done a fantastic job this season of displaying the nuances of parenting. The episode when he throws Finn out of his house because Fin had described Kurt’s decor as “gay” brought tears to my eyes.

Who doesn’t love Glee! I love this show far too much for my own good haha! I love that it uses musical theatre stars as well as ordinary actors. I remember when Glee first launched and everyone was talking about Matthew Morrison who plays Mr Schu and what a great ‘new talent’ he was. Hold up, he’s been a talent for years on Broadway! I’ve spent the last 3 years listening to him sing Link on the Hairspray soundtrack. Same goes for Lea Michelle, to me and my friends (seeing as a large proportion of them are theatre geeks like me) she’s always going to be Wendla from Spring Awakening, which was another album I’d been listening to for years before Glee came along. Jonathon Groff has just arrived in London to star in the play Deathtrap and whilst a lot of people are being all ZOMG IT’S JESSE FROM GLEE! I’m secretly fangirling because he’s blatently Melchior from the OBC of Spring Awakening. What a geek I am.
I agree with your top 3 though I’d probably remove Kurt’s dad and add Kurt or Brittany, I just love her dumb blonde comments!
