Hi I wanted to Thank Karen for letting write a post about why I always like to add videos to my post. Now right off the bat you may think about increasing your bounce rate and I never really knew or cared about how long someone stays on the site but it does seem like an easy way to increase the time someone is on your site. But what I like about it is maybe I think I haven’t really got my message across or I’m trying to cast a certain mood on the post. Videos let me add one more dimension to my message , it hopefully adds to the emotional impact I’m trying to have people reach.
Sometimes if I’m pumped up I will add a song from youtube that I just heard on the radio, this is cool because you often get to add videos that just came out and people haven’t seen yet . I like vodpod because it’s easy to grab the code off there especially when the song has been blackedout on youtube.
I also recently noticed vodpod gave me my own little video vault . I don’t spend much time on there and all that but Vodpod does have a community on there of mostly young hip music buffs. Karen is down with the music scene so vodpod seems like a great spot to launch a video to get feedback on. Check it out Vodpod ‘s a cool site.
The main point I’m trying to get at is I found adding the right video especially if it’s a song that inspired me to write the post adds some extra flavor and hey if it helps your bounce rate all the better.
Ideally videos that YOU made using camtasia uploaded to youtube with your links in the sidebar then used tubemogul would be better but adding music videos has worked for me so give it a shot
Thanks everyone
John Sullivan
PS now this post may seem silly and common sense but the reason I wrote it is because I don’t see many people doing it
Peace

Hi John, it’s really nice to read a guest post from you on Karen’s blog, and I don’t even think she had to twist your arm.
I agree with you 100% about using video. I normally add my own and I’m using screencast-o-matic.com to record them. I plan to upgrade to Camtasia soon. Once you have the video on YouTube it’s pretty easy to add it to WordPress.com or Blogger. However on my other blogs I’m using Viper’s Video Quicktags plugin. I’m going to take a look at Vodpod now.
Thanks!

It’s one of those, “I know I should do it and it’s common sense, but I just don’t” kind of things. I wrote a post about people driving 15 under the speed limit all day. It would have been cool if I actually took the video of what I did after. Orrrr not now that I think about it since it MAY not be legal. Just saying.

It took me months before I started making my own videos, but once begun, they were very easy indeed to create. It just took giving myself permission to shine.

I wanted to thank you and Karen for bringing this up. The prominence of video when conveying a message or information has become inevitable in the present age. Besides that vodpod is an incredible socializing video resource. There are certain videos which I couldnt fish out in youtube, but existed in vodpod. I find your finding about adding video and its impact on bounce rate absolutely true. There can be a lot to research further on that territory. Overall a solid effort

I’ve always tried to include a contextual video or image from other sources to help with making a post “sticky”. Putting myself into the videos will come along as I get more versed in using the new video web apps I’ve seen out there.

I agree with you that adding video content gives a reader more reason to stay on your site longer, and helps everyone. I have Camtasia but can’t find the time to create as many screencasts as I like which is why it is one of my blogging goals to do 2 screencasts or video’s per month now for my blog. Starting this month. I use TubeMogul as well and it is helpful to blast your videos to many video sites and gives good analytics.

I never add any video to my blog post as i do not really like to watch video. I will consider to do so as i saw the trend now. Most of the famous bloggers used to put some videos or recordings into the blog posts. I think my readers might like it too.

Thanks for the encouragement to get myself doing videos again.
I train dogs and teach people how to train dogs using the video of me training the dogs. I started putting clips on my blog etc and did it for about a year. It can be a bit time consuming and have focused on writing good content so haven’t done it now for about a year.
Think it’s time to go back to getting some videos done.

Hi John, I’ve followed your advice and added videos to my latest blog entry. It certainly improves the effect and makes it more interesting as opposed to just plain old text. I’ve used youtube this time as I know what I wanted and have used it before, but I’ve bookmarked Vodpod for a proper look this week. Thanks for the tip! – Wendy

No doubt! Nice to see you doing a little guest posting brother. Fact remains I started doing videos in my posts because of your posts and the fact that I enjoyed it so much on your site.

John, Your posts are always (99 times out of 100) better because you post relevant video. It peaks and keeps my interest. I actually took your advice on my latest page. And it was very easy and simple to do. I plan to make video a part of my pages whenever I can find something relevant to the topic.
It may have been obvious, but it still needs to be pointed out and kept in the forefront. Otherwise I get in a hurry and forget! D’oh!

I also recently read about this somewhere. The use of videos, sometimes even not necessarily related to the post, can get some passive readers hanging for a while at your page. And so, I naturally am beginning to use them.

I have also noticed that by adding a video into a post that it seems to make a difference, the more relevant and interesting the better it would seem.

The thing is that a picture, or a video in this case, is worth a 1000 words. It is much easier for people to understand something they see rather than something they read because is much easier to process the information that way. I happened to struggle to understand something that I was reading lots of times, but when I’ve seen it in a video it was much easier to understand it.
