All About Terrible Web Design Clients

In today’s competitive business environment, having a well-designed website is an essential way to provide information to potential customers. As many website designers have discovered, there are many potential pitfalls to navigate when interacting with web design clients. One of the biggest problems is clients that have no idea what they want their website to look like, making it almost impossible to quickly meet their needs. Many clients use vague terms like “sleek” or “cool” that offer little direction when it comes to creating a web design. Other clients provide very detailed directions, only to reject their own ideas when the final product is delivered. Some clients think they know what they want, but reveal their confusion when they provide numerous links to sample websites that look nothing alike. It is essential that web designers protect themselves from endless redesigns by getting a significant deposit upfront, and having a contract that clearly defines what services are covered.

  1. Terrific infographic and great tips for protecting oneself from goofball clients. A friend of mine lunches with a group and one individual ALWAYS sends her meal back. Apparently makes her feel important and . . . special.

  2. Hi Karen,
I definitely agree. This is what usually happens in most cases. Most web clients have no idea what their site looks. But nowadays, several web design templates has been made. We can show them some templates so that they could have an idea on what their site would look like. Thanks for sharing this anatomy of horrible web design client.

I’ve had a few of these – makes me boil. They want something, but even they don’t know what they want, let along be able to put it into words for you.

My advice, if you get one of these – double your price!
