How to Avoid a Wedding Fashion Faux Pas

It is pretty obvious I know, but when it comes to the ‘big day’, everyone wants to look their best and have a wonderful time. Everyone who has been through the experience will tell you that you cannot hide from the wedding photographs – so it is best to make a bit of an effort. To help you to avoid shooting yourself in the foot, I have compiled a list of ‘what not to wear’ as compiled by a leading laser eye specialist. They carried out the survey by interviewing 1,000 couples who were engaged to be married. Accessories from hell for grooms included wigs, piercings and the ubiquitous dreaded white socks. Here is a list of their Top 5 wedding disasters to avoid:

1. Wig/toupee (50%)
2. Visual piercings (19%)
3. White socks (13%)
4. Facial hair (10%)
5. Glasses (7%)

Meanwhile the ladies expressed dissatisfaction for giant pants and flat shoes:
1. Trouser suit (38%)
2. Glasses (23%)
3. Support knickers (16%)
4. Flat shoes (12%)
5. White tights/stockings (10%)

You may have noticed that glasses made both of the Top 5 lists. Although your average bride may spend many hours looking gorgeous on her wedding day, the survey found that 1 in 3 grooms couldn’t actually see their bride since they were too vain to wear their glasses!

Sooooooo you’re saying don’t dress like the people in that picture? There goes my plan. I don’t really have to worry about the “big day” any time soon since I still have at least 5 years to go until I even think about it. I was thinking about doing it in my birthday suit though. Bad idea?

I can’t believe actually wear these things at weddings. At least those 2 in the picture are on the same frequency :)

  5. Kevin says:

Oh wow. That picture up above of the guy with the tattoos and piecings is really something. Oddly enough though, I would rather look at their wedding photo’s than a traditional wedding. I bet they’re hilarious!

One out of the five fashion faux pas isn’t bad. And not even number one. Although i guess he may have been wearing white socks. Could have been worse… could have been all five! I wonder if the wedding guests wore the same….

I thought “forgetting to bring along a copy of the speech” may have cropped. Forgetting your glasses would be an awful nuisance, straining your eye-sight may create a headache (I know from personal experience!)

“1 in 3 grooms couldn’t actually see their bride since they were too vain to wear their glasses!” Are you kidding me? How bad was their vision and how far were they from their bride?
I just got lasik so I won’t have to worry about this thankfully (I’m the bride).
That couple reminds me of the couple in UK that recently tied the knot dressed as Shrek and Fiona – complete with wigs, ears, and green paint.

I was wondering why a laser eye company carried out the research – ha, presumably to get engaged glasses wearers to have their eyes done. Bit of an expensive accessory for a wedding photo!!

My friend had a beach wedding and he wore board shorts and a GIGANTIC RED BOW TIE… the bride was more ‘sane’, she dressed up as a fairy instead…

I could see “white socks” happening pretty easily. It is easy to miss the fact that you need to purchase a pair of black socks as they often don’t come with the tux rental.

Related to the shoe/socks line of thinking: my wife received a free pair of white shoes with the purchase of her wedding dress. The day of the wedding she tried wearing them, but they hurt her feet to much. So, she went barefoot in February!

“1. Wig/toupee (50%)” so true, i cant imagine anyone thinking this would be a good idea!

I’ve had many grooms (and groomsmen) wearing sunglasses. The brides don’t seem to like that so much.

  14. Bob says:

Well I think its old fashioned to think all wedding need to look the same, a bit of fun hurt no one and I would be happy to photograph a wedding like that sometimes instead of the usual My Wedding Photos that I have photogrpahed so far are traditional but I am open to some fun

  15. Ian says:

Not wearing glasses might be a really good idea if you are in any doubt. Maybe a set of beer goggles would do the trick instead.

  16. amanda says:

i dont think glasses should be on that list! you dont really want the bride being unable to see and bumping into things on her way down the aisle!

  17. Witty Artist says:

I don’t see why glasses are to be included in that list. I’ve seen brides and grooms looking nice even wearing glasses. Plus it seems stupid to force your eyesight and grope – that would look weird.

  18. CarlyG says:

I think the difference between the male and female faux pas is staggering!
I would have thought they were a little more similar than that…

I find both lists a little annoying hehe
