Avoiding the Dark Side: 3 of your best defenses against every gamer’s arch nemesis, fatigue

We’ve all been there: a new video game is being released tomorrow and you need to camp out at the store all night and still have the energy to participate in a marathon gaming session the next day. But then your body does that pesky thing it does every now and then where it gets tired and fails to see that a new video game release is clearly more important than rejuvenating itself. Fortunately, just like Luke Skywalker rescued Princess Leia from the evil Darth Vader in “Star Wars: Episode IV,” caffeine steps in and saves the day to ward off villainous fatigue. To keep those tired eyes open and focus on more important things, keep in mind the following cheat codes to life.

Purchase caffeine-friendly appliancesA good coffeemaker is the arch nemesis of the evil spirit of sleepiness. In fact, just the smell of a fresh cup of java brewing in a brand new coffeemaker is enough to make this drowsy demon immediately leave your body to possess another unsuspecting victim. If coffee’s not your thing, try a hot cup of caffeinated tea with a new tea kettle. Most modern coffeemakers and tea kettles use advanced technology to make it so your caffeinated beverage is prepared and ready for ingesting with just the click of a button. This is because most companies understand that the Sandman can strike quickly and mercilessly – leaving his victim weak and vulnerable. User-friendly appliances with fast-as-lightning preparation times will have you energized and up to speed in no time.

Vacuum often

It may sound a little crazy, but before you judge, just answer this one question: When was the last time you fell asleep to the sound of a vacuum cleaner? That’s what I thought. Silence, soothing music and C-SPAN all invite the evil spirit of sleep into your home that can make it difficult to keep it at bay for all-night comic book reading or studying sessions for your molecular biology final. And let’s face it: after days of surviving on nothing but Cheetos, Doritos, and Ramen noodles, your room could probably use a good vacuum.

Don’t turn out the lights

For thousands of years, our brains have evolved to keep us awake during the daytime and asleep at night for practical reasons. But it’s high time we start adapting to staying awake whenever we want. After all, we’ve had artificial light since the late 19th century! Too few sleep victims take advantage of the benefits of artificial light, which can trick our brains into believing that it’s still daytime. If you don’t want to fall away to the dark side of sleep, keep the lights on at all times. In many instances, it might even be necessary to purchase ultra-bright sun lamps, flashlights, and even glow sticks to keep your home lit up where no game-destroying demons can hide.

It’s a scary world out there without a band of fearless superheroes around to fight off the bad guys for you. Although you can’t simply call Batman when you get into trouble, you can protect yourself from comatose creepers by adopting the tips above. Remember: sleep can strike at any moment, so keep a bucket of cold water around just in case of emergencies.

Amusing post on how to stay awake, I’ll be using some of these ideas when the next GTA (Grand Theft Auto) is released, no date as yet, but I’ll be taking the day off work and booking the kids into Nursery! No car valeting or car detailing just GTA for a week
    not forgetting the RedBull
