QR codes have become more and more popular over the last few years, as thousands of companies and brands look for innovative ways to connect with target audiences, particularly via mobile devices. Not only do QR codes allow brands traction with a younger, technologically-minded market, but they facilitate innovative advertising and a more holistic approach to marketing (both online and offline).
More recently, as increasing numbers of people catch on to the potential benefits of QR codes, brands have been attempting to stand out from the crowd; producing some incredibly creative ‘designer’ QR codes.
Below is a collection of some of the better designs I’ve seen over the last couple of weeks – if you find any particularly cool or creative ones I’ve missed, let us know in the comments section!
True Blood
This QR code was used in the promotional campaign for True Blood, and is an excellent example of how to make more of your QR codes. The design is appealing and instantly draws your eye – it’s also representative of the show, and of the True Blood brand.
Starbucks

This excellent designer QR code is from Starbucks, and although I feel it could have been executed a little better, I love the general concept of using the mixture of foam and coffee to make the code.
Heineken

This is a superb example of how creative you can be with QR codes; the concept of using beer bottle caps to make the code is excellent, and it’s been executed particularly well. The concept also perfectly captures the essence of the brand, as well as incorporating the brand colours and guidelines.
Louis Vuitton

This QR code from Louis Vuitton is a superb example of how the codes can be incorporated into a brand. The design is elegant, bold and fits perfectly with the branding and style of the label.
Direct Sight

This example is from Direct Sight, and is beautifully simple and very effective. I really like the subtle incorporation of the brand colour, and the inclusion of the sunglasses fits nicely and really draws the eye – it also gives you an idea of where the QR code is leading you, without having to include any overt branding or text.
Metro
Another great example of incorporating a logo and branding into a QR code – I love the colouration and the subtle branded highlights in this design from the Metro newspaper.
Urban Professor

This is a great example from Urban Professor – the branding is fantastic and I love the inclusion of the three colours from the logo and the cityscape skyline in the background.

I shared this too John. These are great examples of how clever graphic designers can turn something mundane into a graphic that communicates a brand.

These are beatiful.
I tried them all. With the scanning and the beeping of my phone for a moment I felt like I was working behind a cash register in a supermarket haha.
Only the urban professor didn’t work for me.
I didn’t know that the QR codes could be anything diffferent then the boring black and white.
I was at an art area in Beijing a few months ago and on a wall there was a massive qr code. my friends thought it was art. Then I scanned it and got to the site of the artist.
My friends were astonished that it worked… which is weird because they are not that amazed when paying at the supermarket.
