Millions of people all over the world enjoyed the 2012 edition of UEFA’s European Championship tournament, watching Spain win yet another major international tournament, while the English and the Dutch fans witnessed another disappointing outing for their national teams.
Now that the tournament’s over, interest has moved to statistics surrounding the competition – who was the best player? Who made the most passes? Who scored the most goals? How many records were broken during the tournament? How did Euro 2012 compare to previous Euro competitions?
The team over at Golden Riviera Casino have answered these questions and a whole bunch of others, with their awesome UEFA Euro 2012 Infographic:

I found the statistics surrounding England and Spain particularly interesting, despite the fact that they’re at completely opposite ends of the footballing spectrum. A notable statistic is England’s most successful passing combination in their quarter final defeat to Italy – Joe Hart (goalkeeper) to Andy Carroll (striker). Not only is that indicative of the kind of football England were forced to play against a superior Italian team, but it’s even more surprising when you consider that the Liverpool striker didn’t come on until the hour mark.
The statistics surrounding Spain are nothing short of astonishing, with the team and their manager breaking more than 12 European Championship records – including becoming the first team to successfully defend their European Championship title and the first team to win three consecutive international tournaments (Euro 2008, World Cup 2010 and Euro 2012).

Hi John
I just love these Infographic. They kind of say it all. I should have betted on Denmark to beat Holland, but even I am a Dane myself I had not seen that one coming, but I did for sure enjoyed the match

I play in an indoor soccer league over the winter, but I don’t watch it on TV. I do watch american football and can’t wait for the season to start this year. The fantasy football leagues are already getting started for draft time!

It’s a really good looking infographic and I especially like the biggest flops portion. I’d also be interested what the goal behind the graphic was…traffic? backlinks? etc.
Cool infographic John, can’t believe Ronaldo has had 70 shots from outside the box and not a single goal. And he wants 300k a week next season? ppffff This also highlights how rubbish England (AND IRELAND) actually were in the Euros. We had 5 players in the “biggest fops” starting 11 and two on the bench. That’s nothing short of embarrassing.
