As most of you know yesterday was my blog 2nd birthday and I must say a big thank you to everyone who stopped by the [intlink id="happy-birthday-blazing-minds" type="post"]birthday post[/intlink] and commented.
Now back on topic
Yesterday, well in fact the last few days seemed to have a sudden build of website traffic with yesterday hitting a total of 1,881 views and the majority of these views seem to hover around two blog posts: Shrek Forever After: The Verdict with 744 views and iTunes 10 and the Ping Social Network for Music! with 233 views, the rest of the views came from the rest of the blog.
The day before had similar amount of website traffic with the overall views totalling in at 1,334 views with the top two posts being: Shrek Forever After: The Verdict with 608 and How To Select All Your Facebook Friends When Inviting Them to a Page or Group etc with 182 views.
As you can see for some reason, I not sure why, but Shrek Forever After, seems to be bringing in a lot of website traffic lately and it seems to be coming from StumbleUpon.
In the last 7 days StumbleUpon has been the second biggest sender of traffic to Blazing Minds with Google still at the top of the list of website referrals.
It is nice to see that Blazing Minds has become so popular over the two years that I’ve been blogging and that people enjoy the posts that I have posted as well as the posts that my Guest Bloggers have submitted as well.

Thank you Karen! I admit that there is a lot of tricky things with traffic. For example I have a tennis blog in Russia and there is a lot of traffic that is illogical for me. Thanks again and good luck during your 3-d year of blogging.

That’s a great thing Karen. I guess some SU user with a large number of followers has liked the post. Anyway, just want to ask. What is the quality of the traffic from SU? I mean the time on site, bounce rate etc.

My traffic also rockets some days thank to some bookmark sharing sites. StumbleUpon is really a good traffic source although it decreases the bounce rate dramatically.

Very nice jump in traffic. It’s great to see those spikes every now and then but it’s hard to keep them coming as often as we’d like them to

One thing about StumbleUpon is that while the traffic is usually high in numbers, you need to check the time those people are actually on your site and the bounce rate. If the bounce rate is high and the time spent is very low, it could be doing more harm than good.
Check out my post below where I examined the traffic I was getting from StumbleUpon and Reddit.
Congrats nevertheless and I wish you continued success!

Search engine traffic will be your greatest source of traffic Karen, imho. We have struggled with where to place our efforts, and search engine traffic has been our greatest asset. When you blog about these Shrek things (for example), folks will visit and if your adspace is tailored to these type of random visitors, you might do very well. Keep in mind, I am just an outsider looking in, but perhaps a consideration.

Hi Karen, belated congratulations for 2 years of great blogging on Blazing Minds!
I bet a title like you choose today “Blazing Minds Gets a Sudden Boost of Website Traffic” gives you additional a new traffic spike as many blogger like to know the secret behind other blogger’s website traffic boost.
In my case it was Google Realtime with the help of Twitter for my New Zealand earthquake post increase of 500 – 1000 % in the last 3 days (lol) – Stumble upon gave me 0 visitors…

That kind of thing seems to happen from time to time. My blog got a huge jump last year for a couple of days that made absolutely no sense to me, and as quickly as it came it went away. It seemed to be one website I’d never heard of sending most of the people. It’s freaky when it happens.

It feels so nice when having a heard of traffic soaring to blog. Looking at your graph, I got surprise why again at the last day it was a rapid down-fall? From 1800s to less than 300? Did you make some research on that?

I had a very similar thing happen to two of my posts, one about Canon MF3110 printer and how to resolve with Windows 7 64bit Drivers, the other about ShinySearch. Both of these posts drew 5,000 visits per month alone. Then suddenly, POOOF, Google Instant search changes how SERP updates in real time, and these posts get 0 hits anymore, my blog lost 25% traffic from these 2 pages dropping of the SERP entirely as a result.
This is a boon, but one of the big negatives of getting too comfortable or relying on search engine traffic that arrives on a single post. Enjoy it while it lasts, and in fact I would add AdSense or affiliate sale on the post right away while it gets so much traffic (Amazon affiliate Shrek Forever After), you may get a few commissions
