Why do you bother to use third party comment form if WordPress itself already offer the best comment form available?

This question has been my question for a long time. Yes, I do use intenseDebate in my telecommunication blog but it is because my telecommunication blog is in blogpost platform. You should already knew or even experienced how bad the blogspot comment form is. It is so bad which make me sure that many potential commentators drove away in blogspot blog if still use blogspot default comment form. That’s why I use IntenseDebate, an automatic product which offer WordPress like comment form for my telecommunication blog readers.

WordPressI hope my telecommunication blog readers experience the great commenting experience as in WordPress blog. Indeed, it is working great about commenting number increasing. It make me conclude that IntenseDebate is better comment form than blogspot comment form at least. However, in my opinion, the real WordPress comment form is still the best of course. Therefore why do you still use third party comment form even though you already use WordPress platform in your blog? It is really a big question for me.

IntenseDebateI really wonder about the reasons – the reasons to use third party comment form even though you use WordPress as your blog platform. It is because I, my self, experience that the best comment form in the world – the best comment form in blogosphere exactly – is the WordPress comment form for sure. For your information, I usually keep this opinion in quite because honestly, I am okay with third party comment form and do not want to bug you with (which may be) my only single opinion. I think it is not worthy to bug your time with my only minor problem since I also still able to tolerate it.

DisqusHowever – recently, I feel like hell while try to comment in blog that use Disqus as their comment platform. The comment form often can not be loaded perfectly in my slow internet connection. After it can be loaded, I feel lost when try to submit my good comment. It is because I think the commenting process kind a bit confusing. I even experience that I do not know whether my commenting is sent successfully or not since I only face the hang page after comment. This experience push me to speak my opinion according this third party comment form thing.

So, what is the exactly reason to use third party comment form instead use WordPress default comment form? Let me know.

That’s all update this time, wait for next update!

I think the WordPress comment form is clearly the best and the simplest comment form I have seen. Even though I like the Intense Debate form, but that requires the installation of an extra plugin, which will unnecessarily increase the page load time.
And about he Disqus, I also have similar problems. Sometimes the form doesn’t load completely, which makes it impossible to comment upon without refreshing the page again and again.

Hi Dana, now I’m starting to see more guest posts from you – this makes the second one. Good for you!
I have a Blogger blog and I tried to install Disqus and it simply would not work! I switched to Intense Debate and right away I found out that I could use the CommentLuv plugin. That’s the reason I stuck with ID. CommentLuv rocks!
    Thanks for the post.

We are using what WordPress provides, however, we’ve added the plugin, Subscribe To Comments. But then again, we do not receive the comments some blog do. I think if we received more comments I would go with something more powerful.

    Dana,

I agree WordPress is the best. For the longest time I was using Intense Debate with CommentLuv because of Theme issues and I found like it better. But after some issues with the comment system, losing over 30% of my comments, and the intense debate support staff not helping me my issues I no longer use the plugin.

But out of Disqus and Intense Debate, my favorite is still Intense Debate.

I have accounts on both ID and Disqus. I prefer ID because of all the flare that can be added while the other option I use over on my web resource to make the comments pop a little better for folks looking to get more exposure for the articles that they post.

Thanks Dana. I quite like IntenseDebate. It works well for those blogs that do not have a decent or customizable comment form. For wordpress, there are so many plugins and options available that it is not needed unless you want the possibility of being able to comment via logging in using OpenID, etc.

As my blog is at blogger, my change to Intense Debate was a huge change because I can catch something of the WP forms.
Love also the plug-ins like the CommentLuv, social trackers and social shares. I’ve had problems with it but I think there are more pros than cons.
I’ve issues always with Disqus – don’t work or acts bizarre after pressing submit.

    Cheers,

I hate Disquis. There is something about the form that just bugs me. All my new websites are using WP as the platform. Great SEO and the comment form is simple. Simple is the way to go!

The only real ? is why would a blogger want to host their links on another site ? One of the most powerful aspects of a blog is who you link to and who links to you. Why have a middle man ?
    Nice post

  12. For me it is the obvious choice, I blog on Drupal and the Drupal commenting system is awful. There is no ComLuv application that works well so Disqus is pretty much the option. I think Disqus is the best looking comment system anyway, shame you can’t do do-follow and stuff.

Interesting point of view Dana! I never think about this before. After reading your article, i also wonder why people choose to use 3rd party comment form. I would like to know the reason too. Thanks for your sharing! :)

When I see Disqus I tend to not even try to leave a comment. I have my personal blog with quite a few tag words to keep spammers from coming in, but I still see about 20/week that come through.

it just doesn’t work with some themes.

Maybe this happens because people think that 3rd party comment form is better. In think this trend happens because people usually think that something new is often better and they switch to it immediately without studying it more.

    Hi Dana,
I too believe that wordpress default comment system is the best. The simple comment system is one reason why I prefer wordpress than blogger platform. But in certain cases, we will have have to stick with the open IDs amd in that case I believe third party comment form is the best
