As a youngster, I remember where I was when I heard the news back in the summer of 1977 that Elvis had passed away.
Back then there was no Internet, no 24-hour news networks, and no rampant speculation among celebrity “doctors” as to what may have caused the death.
Flash forward more than 30 years later and two of the music industry’s biggest superstars have left us – Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston.
Houston, who passed away Feb. 11 in a Beverly Hills hotel room, died at the young age of 48, with officials holding off on releasing an exact cause of death. Jackson, who passed away in 2009 inside his Los Angeles area residence, was found to have died of Propofol intoxication.
What both deaths have in common besides the obvious shock and impact on the music world and life in general, is that before the two were even buried, some were accidentally or purposefully attempting to cash in on their deaths.

He has flown through space as Captain Kirk, arrested criminals on the tough streets of Los Angeles as veteran officer T.J. Hooker, and played a Boston lawyer most recently. However, can William Shatner survive a fiery bus crash?
In the world of getting as much bang for your buck (no pun intended), a new commercial that was to begin airing Jan. 23, shows the famed actor in his well-known ‘Priceline Negotiator’ role meeting his demise. Or does he?
Priceline, which has been using Shatner in its ads for more than a decade now, debuts this latest commercial with the idea of leaving a lasting impression on television and online viewers. If that was the goal, mission accomplished.
Shatner, who has gone were few men have gone before, is seen in this latest ad helping get passengers off a bus that is dangling over a bridge. In his heroic attempt (successful we might note), he saves the lives of the tourists, only to find himself and the bus plunging to a fiery end.
According to a Priceline spokesperson, “We only killed off the negotiator. William Shatner is still under contract (reportedly one year remaining).”

If you thought late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs was gone and forgotten, think again.
The Chinese company In Icons reports it is going to make available an unauthorized replica of Jobs (starting in February), who passed away back October from complications of pancreatic cancer.
The foot-tall figurine will reportedly show Jobs with his signature black turtleneck, rimless glasses and jeans, along with a stool and a backdrop stating “One More Thing…” – a reference to the trademark slogan Jobs used to release his latest technology gadgets at carefully orchestrated press events where he unveiled the Macintosh computer, the iPhone, the iPad and other “insanely great” items.
Now, the big sticking point will be whether or not the figure ever sees the light of day around the globe.
In 2010, Apple was successful in blocking retailer MIC Gadget from publicly selling its planned iPhone 4-sized Steve Jobs sculptures.

As millions of Americans were preparing to head into a long Thanksgiving weekend, the specter of the financial crisis hitting different parts of Europe for more than a year now reared its ugly head again on Wednesday (Nov. 23), as stocks tumbled fast and furious.
On Wall Street, the Dow Jones industrial average fell some 235 points, culminating a three-day period before the holiday of significant losses. With Wednesday’s results, the broad S&P hit the red for the sixth-straight session.
While Greece, Italy and Spain have been the main focal points in recent weeks and months regarding financial disasters just waiting to explode into other parts of Europe, traders found themselves scared on this day after dismal results in an auction of German 10-year bonds. The news was especially scary given Germany is the European Union’s largest economy.
With a weak appetite to purchase much of the debt, traders showed definite signs of concern that Europe’s financial woes could be weaving its way into some of the stronger markets.
Meantime, the euro dropped to its lowest mark in nearly two months against the U.S. dollar, thereby reinforcing the opinion that currency is now moving out of the euro zone. Up until recently, a large number of the safe-haven flows have occurred within the currency union, showcasing transport from riskier sovereigns to ones considered safer.

When going through the catalogue listing the products you are interested in selling, identify products which offer the best rates of commission. Some publishers offer a fixed dollar amount per sale, while others will pay you a percentage of the sales. Select several products which offer good commissions and would benefit customers.
You should then check out the websites of the selected products. From the website, you will be able to learn more about the product being offered and the company. Evaluate the site and see if it has the potential of attracting prospective customers. You wouldn’t want to sell products for a company whose site is unlikely to convince customers to buy a product.
