Many moons ago, when I originally set up the Inde Net Label Atom Sounds, I did several reviews of the artists on the label, so I thought I would bring you a review that I posted up of the album See The Light by Bob Evans.

Those needing some culture will certainly find it on Bob’s album “See the Light”, with great guitar work and soothing beats to some nice rock/country sounding tracks.

Now I will openly admit that upon first hearing the title track “See the Light” on the Atom Sounds CD, I thought to myself, here is an artist that has a god given talent and that talent is Bob’s vocals tied into some amazing guitar work.

“See the Light” consists of twelve tracks and each track on the album has that Bob Evans feel, but at the same time each track is different from the next, a change these days. The CD opens with the immensely toe tapping title track “See the Light” and from that point on it just gets better.

As a lot of you who read Blazing Minds will know, from time to time I get the chance to review some new music by some amazing artists. The other day I was sent the new forthcoming EP from the band In Darklight, you may have seen the review I did of their album “Dying To Confess” so I was over the moon to get a chance to hear and review their latest work.

In Darklight EP

Tell me more about the In Darklight EP!

The “In Darklight EP” features five tracks: Slaves, Turn Your Back, Break, Quick Fire and Greenhouse, all of which have that In Darklight sound and feel that I’ve become accustomed to since first hearing them on the album I reviewed some time back.

What appeals to me with In Darklight and specially with this EP is the quality of the recordings, they are top quality with the sound production being spot on with plenty of power for me to have the music blasting out of my 1,000 watt system and still keeping any distortion away.

Now just to take a break from all the serious posts that we’ve had lately and just to have some fun with some great music, I thought, just for a change, that we could have a Music Monday today.

Some time back I did a review of an the album Dying To Confess by upcoming band In Darklight, so while surfing around YouTube, as you do ;) I stumbled upon their video for the superb track The Human Race, a brilliant track that stands out quite well on their album, so here it is for your audio delight on this Music Monday.

Something a little different for this weeks band interview, it is literally a band, the Middleton Band is a brass band and I was asked by Pam Smith aka @sterlingsop for an interview, so I’m proud to bring you the Middleton Band for this weeks ”Who’s the Band” so I hope you all enjoy the interview..

Pam SmithQ: Hi Pam, so how did you come upon the name of your band? Is it the first name you chose?
A:
The band name is “Middleton Band” which is the area we are from in Manchester. Traditionally bands were called after the village or coal mine where they were based and we are no different. Most people have heard of the Brighouse and Rastrick brass band? Well that’s two villages in Yorkshire and the band drew members from both, hence the name.

Q: Which instrument do you play in the band?
A:
I currently play tuned percussion (timpani, cymbals, xylophone, tubular bells, glockenspiel etc) but until this time last year I was the principal cornet player. I got ill and haven’t had the strength in my stomach muscles to blow properly so for now I’m hitting thing with sticks instead!

Q: What influenced you to be a member of a brass band?
A:
My music teacher at primary school. He came into the classroom one day and said “who wants to be in the band?”. I put my hand up and tried to blow the cornet, which I managed ok first time. Nearly 33 years later – here am I still playing!!

OK folks, yes I know it’s been a while since I last posted a “Who’s The Band” article, but I’m proud to say that I’ve had the opportunity to bring you a new artist interview, so lets not waste any more time and get on with it ;)

Q: So how did you come upon the name of your band? Is it the first name you chose?

A: Well When i first started rapping I used to call myself Jodi Da-Rookie. Jodi is my middle name. Or rather one of my middle names. Funny enough my initials are DJ Double R. But that didn’t hold. One day while in class my friend started tagging (writing graffiti) all ova my notebook, home room boredom. And what he wrote was DaReal. And i asked him why, and he said because you always keep it real and say whatever is on your mind. At the time it was funny until i truly started to develop my craft. The artist Jodi DaReal became a total other personality. Darielle (my first name) was shy and kept to her self. Jodi was REAL and wanted everyone to know that.

I just love it when I get an email saying “I have an album out, would you like to review it?” It’s one of the ways that I can discover new music and some new artists.

A little while back an email dropped in my inbox about an album called New Earth by 8-time international award-winning composer Sakis Gouzonis, so how could I miss the opportunity of getting his album and giving it the music review treatment here on my blog!

The first name that always springs to my mind when I hear the term “Greek Artist” is Vangelis and I’m a big fan of his, specially the Blade Runner soundtrack, so I was intrigued to hear what this album by Sakis sounded like, with a track record of awards won for his musical compositions, I just couldn’t wait to get his CD on my iTunes and get playing it.

It certainly seems that my blog is getting some interesting CDs and downloads of some music lately and this latest addition to land in my mail box is from 18-year-old Oxford-based singer-songwriter Adam Barnes.

Adam Barnes: Blisters EPAdam has a wonderful voice and one which flows wonderfully with the acoustic instruments that accompany him on this six track EP. This release has a wonderful overtone of folk-pop and for anyone that is looking for something that has such a wonderful collection of well written lyrics and well produced music, then you can’t really go wrong.

I do have a range of musical tastes, but, since doing some of these music reviews here on Blazing Minds, I have discovered some genres that I may not have listened to before and this EP would probably have been one, or maybe not ;)

This has been one of those music reviews where I’ve enjoyed every single track on the Blisters EP, right the first track “Old Shoes” through “Come Undone” and then the up-tempo “If I Was A Lonely Man” slowing down for “We Can Only Sleep“, then a change for “Procession” and finally finishing off the EP with the track “Lighthouse“.

The Blisters EP is very well put together and is very enjoyable to listen to, it is certainly one of those EPs that I could listen to over and over again, it’s quite inspiring to know that in this musical world of computer composed music that there is still room for wonderfully written music that has heart to it and this is one of those releases. I’ve really enjoyed listening to Adam Barnes for this music review and I think you may enjoy it as well.

You can check out Adam Barnes on his official website as well as on Twitter @mradambarnes, Facebook, MySpace and Tumblr. Also you can get your hands on the Blisters EP from BandCamp and iTunes.
