The Dictator – Blazing Minds Film Review

So I’m going to start of this review by saying that I’ve never been a fan of Sacha Baron Cohen, Ali G was painful, Borat was terrible and Bruno was just like being tortured, now I’ve probably upset a lot of his fans now and they are all sitting reading this review and foaming at the mouth, but wait, I haven’t finished yet, that just the opening of my review.

The Dictator is different from the other as it’s on a bigger budget and you can tell this from the production of the film for the costumes, cameo roles and complete style of the film compared to his earlier movies.

What I do have to say is that The Dictator isn’t afraid to poke fun and insult almost everyone and even to the point of making fun of 911 whilst on a sight-seeing helicopter ride with some American tourists, too soon, not too sure, but it does touch on a nerve.

The film is politically satirical and it is funny, funny to the point that the audience, during my viewing, were in stitches even at parts of the film where you laugh out loud and then quickly think to yourself “Oh No! Should I really be laughing at that!”, such as the woman going in to labour and Aladeen helping her deliver, leading to some rather uneasy shots of inside the woman with his hands in there and his mobile phone!!!!

It is nice that The Dictator is more like a film and by that I mean it’s not like the last to Sacha Baron Cohen films that seem to be reality/mocumentary style. This does flow a lot better than those, yes there are those moments where the film does have those slightly long pauses, but then bam! You’re hit with something that just has you in fits and giggles again.

I’m Not A Fan Of Sacha Baron Cohen!

As I mentioned earlier in this review, I’ve never been a fan of his and have usually shied away from most of the stuff he does, but The Dictator is a nice move away from his earlier work and this far is far more enjoyable to watch, now if he produces in this style more often, then I’ll probably make the effort to see more.

But if he falls back to the reality TV style then I wouldn’t bother, The Dictator is a good move on his side.

Overall Thoughts On The Dictator

If you love Sacha Baron Cohen, then you’ll love the film, if you don’t like him, then still give it a go, I don’t like him and I was laughing my way through most of the film, but do go in with an open mind as you will probably be offended or shocked at least once during the film.

So today was “Tuesday Film Club day”, it was the perfect way to see a new film to review and this weeks film to review was the new Tim Burton film “Dark Shadows”.

Loosely based on the TV sitcom that aired in America on ABC in the 60′s-70′s, Dark Shadows is about Barnabas Collins (Johnny Depp) who is cursed by a witch, Angelique Bouchard (Eva Green), and turned in to a vampire and buried for 196 years, until he is released in 1972 and returns to his family home in Collinsport to find that his descendants have taken a turn for the worse and the town and family business has been taken over by somebody else.

Dark Shadows – Blazing Minds Film Review

So what we have with Dark Shadows is a typical Johnny Depp and Tim Burton film, full of dark satire, one liners, Johnny Depp looking rather odd and Helena Bonham-Carter as her usual nutty self

OK, you’re not getting a film which makes you think , it’s not a murder mystery, but it has some very funny moments, I do have to say that Johnny Depp always brings some outlandish and comic parts to the roles he takes and pairing up with Tim Burton always seems to bring out the charm when the two get together.

Though this may not be the best film in their partnership history, it’s still darkly funny and enjoyable. Let’s face it it’s a reworking of a TV show which not many people can remember, well the younger ones anyway.

With it’s groovy looking 70′s clothes, great soundtrack and cameos from Alice Cooper and the original Barnabas (Jonathan Frid), the film is just fun, yes there are those that have completely panned the film and hated it for everything, but at the end of the day, it’s a fun film, yes it’s quite camp and yes it’s reworking of a TV Show, but who cares.

Dark Shadows is going to be one of those films that divides the film going public in to those that love it and those that can’t stand it and for me I loved it.

Click here to view the embedded video.

Overall Thoughts For Dark Shadows

Go and see this if you like silly films, love Tim Burton and Johnny Depp sends you weak at the knees, forget about the TV series, just go and see the film and enjoy!

Ok boys and girls it was review night for me last night and though I did tweet out that I was going to review “Safe” at a last minute change of mind, mainly to one of my friends going in to see Piranha 3DD, I decided to go in and see that with him instead.

Let me start off by saying it’s extremely hard to take a film seriously that has a selling point of DD in the title and yes that is a a selling point to the male population of between 18-25, but hey, this film isn’t supposed to be serious it’s a comedy-horror and I say horror loosely.

Piranha 3DD – Blazing Minds Film Review

So after the complete carnage of the previous film (Piranha 3D), those hungry prehistoric Piranhas are back to cause more bloodshed and complete silliness in a water park called Big Wet, where scantily clad teenage girls flaunt their stuff to the patrons and to the cinema watching audience in eye-popping 3D.

The Piranha are vicious little buggers and they like nothing better than chomping down on some of the DD chested woman in the water park and boy do they make a meal of them.

Piranha 3DD is completely daft, with loads of bad acting, not much of a script, but it makes up for what it lacks in the laughs department. You find yourself laughing at things you probably shouldn’t be laughing at and without spoiling anything for those going to see the film, lets just say that a man’s private part aren’t safe from the Piranha in the bedroom during a bit of how’s your father

It all kind of reminds me of an early 80′s, badly made, slasher movie, but with Piranhas instead of a Jason or Freddy character to slash up the teenagers at the lack

I just loved the way that David Hasselhoff, takes the mickey out of himself during the film as he plays himself, even to the point of doing the famous Baywatch run in slow motion, only to stop half way through, crouch down and then say “F*** me, I’m getting old” had me in stitches.

Nice cameos from Ving Rhames reprising his role as Deputy Fallon and Christopher LLoyd back as Dr. Goodman.

Yes It’s In 3D!

It amazes me sometimes that you get a massive budget film made in 3D and the 3D is completely rubbish and then you get a film like Piranha 3DD that is probably made on a shoestring and the 3D is far better, there’s a good use of depth, the Piranhas do work extremely well in 3D, even the little ones, special at the beginning with Gary Busey spitting one out towards the audience.

So the moral of 3D is, if films on a small budget can do such a good job, then why the hell can’t the major big releases do the same, without making feeble excuses.

Click here to view the embedded video.

Overall Thoughts For Piranha 3DD

It’s daft, funny, the 3D is very good, did I say it was daft. The fact that there are so many laughs in the movie, made me ponder on what to rate the film, do I rate it on the production or the slightly bad acting or even on a merit that the film was so enjoyable with its comedic elements, so, I opted for the later. I’ve rated Piranha 3DD on the fact that it was funny and enjoyable in a B-Movie kind of way

So 10 Years after Jim and Michelle got married, we have the American Pie: Reunion (American Reunion) hitting our screens bringing back the original cast of the class of 1999 and now we find out what everyone has been up to and how their lives have changed in the last 10 years. Of course you just know they are all going to be getting up to things they shouldn’t and now, as adults, they should know better, but do they!?

American Pie: Reunion – Blazing Minds Film Review

Let’s face it folks when we had American Pie: The Wedding back in 2003, we all thought that it would be the end of the series of movies and what almost killed the franchise was the spin-offs, “American Pie Presents”, these were really all a poor excuse to try to bring a fresh bit of life to the movies and perhaps introduce a new audience to the American Pie films, but sadly they were terrible.

But if you think about it, it was inevitable that a new American Pie film with the original cast would come out, in my point of view to try and save the franchise.

Having all the original cast back reminded how much fun the very first movie was back in 1999 with its rather funny and sometimes embarrassing moments that poor Jim (Jason Biggs) got himself in to, you all know what I mean, pie anyone

In the latest film it’s much about the same as the original film with the guys up to their old antics, though it does seem a lot tamer, but this is probably down to the age of the characters now than anything else.

There are it’s funny moments, it’s rather rude moments and it’s all out completely daft moments, but this is all part of the package with an American Pie film.

It’s nice to actually have some closer to the characters that we’ve known since 1999, though now I’ve said that, we will probably get another one somewhere down the line, but I hope not as this has really brought the series full circle with the characters and I don’t think they can go any further without spoiling it.

Overall Thoughts For American Pie: Reunion

It’s gross-out comedy that we’ve all come to love is still there, the characters are still the same, but a little older and it’s fun. It’s probably not the best comedy you’ll see and it’s still not as good as the first American Pie, but it’s a great night out and it does give those chuckle muscles a good little work out

Avengers Assemble 3D – Blazing Minds Film Review

So here we have the Avengers team brought together by Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), the director of S.H.I.E.L.D., including Iron Man (Robert Downey jr.), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Captain America (Chris Evans), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) in attempt to save the world from Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and the power of a cube called the Tesserat.

With Joss Whedon at the helm as director, Avengers Assemble is brought to the big screen as a full-out action packed film with comical scripting to bring in some well placed comedy moments between the characters and specially the comical sarcasm that Tony Stark aka Iron Man has throughout the film.

What I really liked is we now get a bit of a back story for Black Widow after her brief part in Iron Man 2, which helps build her character in Avengers Assemble, without just throwing her in and everyone expected to know about her who may have not read any of the comic books.

Mark Ruffalo is superb as scientist Bruce Banner and his relaxed way of playing the part really brings out the part of a character that has such awesome power hiding deep inside of him with the Hulk just bursting to get out.

Oh I Forgot About The 3D!

Yes the film is in 3D and it rocks! The depth is spot on, the action sequences are nicely shot with a good use of the 3D effects for fight sequences, explosions and debris etc. But to be honest even if you watch Avengers Assemble in 2D you’re still going to enjoy it.

Don’t Forget To Look Out For Generalissimo!

Marvel fans know exactly who I’m on about, as most of us are always on the look out for the great man himself in the Marvel Movies, I speaking of no other than the great Stan Lee (@TheRealStanLee), I wasn’t sure he was in the film but I did spot him, I won’t tell you where, I want you to play “Spot Generalissimo” for yourselves But he is in there…

Click here to view the embedded video.

Overall Thoughts For Avengers Assemble

The film is fantastic and being a fan of the Marvel Movies, I just loved every moment of the film, Joss Whedon has done an outstanding job and it’s great to have the Avengers in one movie that really kicks proverbial ass! So my recommendation is go see the film, even if you haven’t seen the other movies, you’ll still love this action packed, comic and well produced movie.

There comes a time when a film comes along and gives you a feeling of “Wow this is going to be so exciting” when you see the trailers and you just can’t wait to get you bum on the cinema seats and wait for the film to be projected on the big screen for you to enjoy its wonder!

Sadly Lockout, isn’t that film, yes the trailer looks awesome and to the film does look good as well, but the problem with Lockout is it’s just one of those films that seems to have had a script thrown together on a whim of an idea, this time by Luc Besson, with not much thought gone in to it after that point.

Yes the special effects are good, yes the action sequences are pretty exciting, but when it comes down to the acting and the script it really has a long way to go for perfection.

Snow (Guy Pearce) is too sarcastic and after a while the wise cracking one liners really start to lose their appeal, after just too many of them in short succession.

My main problem with the film is that it had so much potential with the hundreds are psychopaths locked away on a space prison, it kind of reminded me of Fortress with Christopher Lambert, but Lockout just doesn’t have the guts to go all out wild with the inmates and so it kind of plods along with Snow going in to prison to try to save the Presidents daughter (Maggie Grace).

With its one liners and its lack of really being anything thing than a rather silly, but fun, film, Lockout really doesn’t take off as a Sci-Fi master piece, but it’s fun, yes I know, it’s so bad that it’s so much fun to watch and it was really hard to think that it was on for 110 mins, it just flew by.

Lockout kind of reminded me of one of the B Movies back in the 50′s that they really don’t make any more.

Click here to view the embedded video.

Overall Thoughts For Lockout

It’s silly, it’s so bad that it’s good, go and see this if you like Guy Pearce or if you have love for films that just really shouldn’t have been made without some sort of adult supervision

It was a while back when I first saw the trailer for Cabin In The Woods and to be honest, I really wasn’t sure what it was going to be like, but the first thing that came to mind, after seeing the cabin, was The Evil Dead.

Even with the outline of the film, it sounded like The Evil Dead:

Five friends go for a break in a remote cabin in the woods, but they get more than what they were expecting. What horrors await them in the Cabin in the Woods.

No Spoilers Here For My Cabin In The Woods Review!

It’s going to be a tough one to write a review Cabin in the Woods, because I really don’t want to give anything away for the film, as I found that the less you know about the film the better, if you go in to see the film and just haven’t got a clue what it’s about and just go in thinking something bizarre is happening in the Cabin in the Woods then that’s the best way to view it.

What I can say is with Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard behind the helm of Cabin in the Woods, you are in for some jumpy bits, a mass or gore, twists and turns and some rather funny bits that only Joss Whedon could do.

So we have the five friends, Dana (Kristen Connolly), Curt (Chris Hemsworth), Jules (Anna Hutchison), Marty (Fran Kranz) and Holden (Jesse Williams) turning up at the Cabin in the Woods and the horror begins.

I picked up on several homages to other horrors such as Friday The 13th, Hellraiser, The Ring and several other movies thrown in for us horror fans, I just thoroughly enjoyed spotting the horror movie and some of the cast that have been in other Joss Whedon productions such as Amy Acker (Fred in Angel) and Tom Lenk (Andrew Wells in Angel).

It’s not the worlds best horror movie, it’s a damn sight more enjoyable than the awful The Devil Inside, Cabin in the Woods in funny and does keep you gripped to every second of the movie, with you waiting for the next gory death and that step closer to you discovering what the hell is happening and who are the people in the underground complex!

Overall Thoughts For Cabin in the Woods

It’s a fun, silly, slightly over the top movie, that isn’t so much a horror movie but more of a bit of a fun poke at some of the classic horror movies from the mid 80′s and 90s. Go see this for the sheer fun of it

So a couple of weeks back I was listening to my favourite local station @PointFMRhyl and heard and interview with Dave Elwyn (@DaveElwyn) and Craig K (@OfficialCraigK) which introduced me to Dave’s music and that he was giving away a copy of his album, Raw Blues, in a little competition on the station, so how could I not get my entry in, in a hope of winning his album.

Hoorah! I’ve Won A Competition

I do have to admit that I do enter a few competitions (I still have hope in winning all the tasty cakes on the PointFM Cake Break) and was over the moon when I was announced as the winner of Dave’s album, so now all I had to do was pick up the CD, so as I was off out to review a film that night I decided to pop down to PointFM and pick the CD up from John Daly (one of the DJs on the station).

Enough Of The Banter, What About The Album Review!

Ok let’s get on with it, usually resident music reviewer @DanMillerr does the reviews but seeing as I won the CD I thought I’d better review it

Right from the very start of the album with the track “Let It Go” you know that this is going to be an album that is literally going to rock! Dave’s vocals really blast out with some amazing drum work and excellent guitar work, making you just sit there and think “Oh My God, what a hell of a start to an album!”

I could stop there really or this review as I can’t fault the album, but I won’t it deserves more being said about it.

The second track, of the eleven on the album, “You Don’t Mind” is much of the same, with the feel of the first track keeping you hooked and listening to the very well written lyrics and air-guitaring to the guitar solo in the middle of the track, outstanding.

WOW! we get a changed, calmer track for the next track, “Know It All” a much smoother track with some wonderful vocal effects and charming vocals and a lovely acoustic guitar solo.

“Begin” has a feel of John Lennon to it, this is probably down to the vocals at the beginning, again the track is slower than the first two, but still has that feel that you just want to keep going through the rest of the album and hear more of Dave Elwyn’s brilliant lyrics.

On to “Call Them Back” which is one of my favourites on the album, the track is so moving with its lyrics which really do touch a nerve, but don’t take my word for it, check out the track on Dave Elwyn’s Reverbnation Page.

“Look Into The Light” starts with a wonderful sounding guitar with a soft synth running through, then Dave’s vocals kick in with a rather slow beat, just to complete the sweet sound of yet another wonderful sounding track that begs to be heard of radio broadcasts everywhere (Hmm I must ask PoitFM to play it later).

Moving on to a more rock sounding track with “Steam Jar” and a short track, but it still keeps you glued to the album, giving you that feel that after seven tracks in the album just hasn’t had a filler track so far!

Bringing in some blues with “Short Fuse Blues” has my toes tapping and singing away to it, like the other tracks, and again I really hadn’t found a track I didn’t like and so far in to an album!

Click here to view the embedded video.

“Hunter’s Noose” is another one of those tracks that you really listen to the lyrics and is a track that really works by bringing the tempo down and making you listen to the lyrics.

What! Track ten already and still no bad tracks, surely not! It’s true and “What Does Everybody Have To Do?” is another that keeps you gripped with the well written lyrics and a chilled tempo, excellently mixed with the percussion, bass, vocals and lead guitar all nicely placed in the speakers stereo field.

The last track, “Why Worry About Tomorrow” brings the album to close with you thinking, “Right, that’s going on again” and that’s exactly what I did, I must have listened to the album several times in one go and I still can’t get enough of it.

Overall Thoughts For Raw Blues by Dave Elwyn

I really can’t fault the album, from the amazing well written lyrics and the pure feel that Dave Elwyn has for the music, right down to album sleeve that just makes you feel that the CD inside is something special.

If you want something that will have you listening to it over and over again then this is the album to do it, forget all the gadget sounding music that’s out at the moment, chuck this in your CD player and take a listen to how good music should sound.

Check out Dave Elwyn on his Official Website, @DaveElwyn, Reverbnation and FaceBook.

It’s not the first time that Hollywood has taken inspiration from a game, I’m not talking about video games, we all know there have been loads of those, I’m talking about board games!

Many years back we had “Clue” which was a rather funny comedy based on the board game “Cluedo”.

My thoughts when I first heard that Battleship was based on the board game was: “How the hell are they going to do that!”. But after seeing Battleship last night at @ApolloCinemas Rhyl, I was really surprised that it has been done and how enjoyable the actual film is.

Ok it’s a complete no brainer you really don’t have to think about the film, all you need to know us that aliens are attempting to kick Earth’s backside, yes that’s about it really.

Through in some amazing special effects and stacks of explosions, extremely well set pieces, carnage and a slight homage to the board game and your set for a rather exciting 2 hours that just fly by.

Ok Rihanna doesn’t really need to do much with her acting in the film, except run around, shout and fire of a stack of ammo, but what she does is nicely done. Throw in Alexander Skarsgard (Eric from True Blood) and Taylor Kitsch (John Carter) for the eye candy for us girls and we’re away

Don’t listen to people who have said it’s like Transformers, it isn’t, this is mainly from those that have only seen the trailer with a section that looks like a giant ship is changing like a transformer.

Click here to view the embedded video.

Overall Thoughts For Battleship

It’s a fun action packed movie that doesn’t need you to think hard about what is going on. If you want a full-blown action movie with a twist of Sci-Fi then this is going to be for you. Personally I loved it.

And stay right umtil the end of the credits, for a little extra bit to keep you thinking

Now I do have to say that many, many years ago, back in 1997 I first saw Titanic on the big screen and have since seen it several times on DVD and it’s appeal had worn a little thin, but now 15 years later and being a little older, I decided to go and see this re-issue of the film that has been converted in to 3D.

As most of you know Titanic is a love story of Rose (Kate Winslet) and Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) based on the ill-fated voyage of the “unsinkable” Titanic, possibly the most famous ship in the world, the film won 11 Academy Awards back when it was originally released and to this day, still holds an audience, whether it’s on DVD or on the big screen.

Titanic 3D – Blazing Minds Film Review

So I can’t really say much about the film itself as most of us already know so much about the much-loved film, so this review is really about the 3D more than the actual film itself.

To start of with Titanic has aged well, it’s still enjoyable to watch and still has the power to make the tears stream down your face, even though we all know what happens with Jack and Rose during this cinematic masterpiece.

Ok, I can hear you asking about the 3D.

I have to say that I’m always sceptical about 2D – 3D conversions and specially after seeing Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, which was an awful conversion, I wasn’t hoping for much and was just looking forward to seeing the film on the big screen again.

Oh how wrong I was, James Cameron has done a superb job with the 3D conversion for Titanic, right from the start of the film you could see that this was indeed going to be more of an experience than the first time I saw the film 15 years ago.

It has to be one of the best 3D conversions I’ve seen, it’s crisp has a multitude of depth and just looks fantastic, fly by shots of the ship just look wonderful and as you move through the crowds before the ship sails and shots on the decks just work so wonderfully.

Trust James Cameron to pull off a 3D conversion so perfectly, but lets face it, he did bring us the wonderful 3D of Avatar.

Click here to view the embedded video.

Overall Thoughts Of Titanic 3D

A superb film that has aged so well in the last 15 years, I enjoyed it so much more than when I saw it back in 1997, the 3D conversion is fantastic and it’s great to have the atmosphere and emotions of seeing Titanic on the big screen again. My recommendation, go see this film in 3D!

So last night I went to my local @ApolloCinemas to see Wrath Of The Titans the sequel to the much talked about and extremely criticised Clash If The Titans a film which was panned for almost everything!

The story goes that Zeus (Liam Neeson) has been captured and taken to the underworld by his brother Hades (Ralph Fiennes), now Perseus (Sam Worthington) must now travel to the very depths of the underworld to find and save his father.

The major question for the sequel is could it be better or worse and would the 3D be so much better than its predecessor which was terrible for its 3D.

Well let me tell you about the 3D first, it’s miles better, the film is completely in 3D and it all works brilliantly, at one point in the film part of tail of a Chimera that has a type of snakes head actually came out of the frame!.

With a 3D effect like that my hopes started to rise and I started to settle back to enjoy the film.

Clash of the Titans vs Wrath of the Titans

Now I do have to point out that Wrath Of The Titans is better than Clash Of The Titans, it still has a lot of room for improvement though, the storyline is quite sparse, as you may have seen earlier in this review, but this is made up for with some pretty amazing action set pieces, though saying that, if this is a battle of the Gods then maybe we could have had some more creatures and a heck of a lot more Titans popping up.

Creature wise we have a family of cyclops in a nicely done chase/fight sequence, a rather short set piece with @BigSpenWilding as the Minotaur, which must have been less than a minute long, a two-headed creature near the beginning with some tasty 3D and of course Kronos!.

Sam Worthington carries off his return as Perseus quite well as do Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes as they return to their parts as Zeus and Hades.

Overall Thoughts and Rating For Wrath Of The Titans

Overall it’s a fun film, it’s not a thinkers film, just an all out blast of the senses with great set pieces. A fun night out!

Produced by: Nina Jacobson, Jon Kilik

Screenplay by: Gary Ross, Suzanne Collins and Billy Ray

Based on the books by: Suzanne Collins

Starring: Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Lenny Kravitz

Running Time: 142 min

Certificate: 12A

Now before you all start shouting at me, no I haven’t read the books that The Hunger Games are based on, so I’m reviewing the film as a film, not an adaptation of a book, you have been warned

Ok on to The Hunger Games, now I do have to say that if you are expecting the film to jump straight in to the games themselves then you will be surprised, as we are slowly introduced the main characters of the film, just to get to know them a little, before going on to them being chosen from their district to perform in The Hunger Games.

So now we have two contestants from each of the 12 districts between the ages of 12 and 18, so they go through their training process and televised interviews etc to woo the crowds, before being sent in to the “arena” to fight for their lives and only one can survive the games.

What we really have here is a love story in a rather unforgiving world with the two district 12 entrants being “star crossed lovers”.

Now for the part of my post that is really going to tick people off!

All I could think of during the film was several things, first of all, this seems similar to the brilliant Battle Royale with a hint of The Running Man thrown in. Also, I know the violence in the film had to be done in such a way to reduce the rating for the film, due to the violence being with children, but come on Battle Royale did it so much better.

There you go, now half of you reading this will now have scream in disgust, but this is my point of view, The Hunger Games seems so toned down that it lacks a certain substance that really grabs your full and undying attention.

Now don’t get me wrong, the film is good, it really didn’t seem that it was on for over 2.5 hours, but I just seemed that it did lack a little something. But as I mentioned earlier this is probably down to the audience that the film is going after, it is a 12A after all.

But with it’s Box-Office takings and the news that Woody Harrelson has signed up for four movies, with one of the books being split in to two films, they seem to do a lot of that these days, it seems that The Hunger Games is going to be a smash with the Teens!

Click here to view the embedded video.

Overall Thoughts For The Hunger Games

An enjoyable film that could possible be better, but the fans of the books have spoken and very much light Twilight, The Hunger Games looks like it and its sequels could pull in a hefty amount of bums on cinema seats.

Episode 4 is a little more light hearted than the previous episodes, but it still has that “Twisted” feel to it as we meet Bob, Bob Dracula, son of the most famous vampire in the world or so he thinks.

So we see Bob on a day in his life trying to keep down a job, stopping from being burnt by the sun and generally getting on with his every day to day chores, but the question that was on my lips, is Ben really a vampire or is he just living in a little world of his own, hmmm!

Twisted Showcase – Episode 4 Bob Dracula – Review

David Welsh Price is quite funny as Bob Dracula as he walks along local streets with cape, glasses and hat on and the whole episode does have you wondering if the character is for real or slightly deranged to think that he is a vampire.

Director and Camera Man, Rhys Jones, brings a slightly uneasy but at the same time a welcoming feel to the episode, with you just feeling for Bob Dracula and at one point I was even starting to feel sorry for him.

The episode is nicely put together with editing by David Ruddy and it’s just another episode that wants the next one to come along, mainly because these short internet films in the Twisted Showcase series get you hooked and after seeing one you are eagerly waiting for the next to come along.

So I’ll stop ranting on now, check out Episode 4: Bob Dracula for yourself, and don’t forget to like the video and help the Twisted Showcase series take the internet by storm

So last night was the night that I had tweeted, facebooked and generally shouted about from the roof tops, the night when David Bolton would be performing live on stage at The Apollo Cinema in Rhyl.

All I can say is to those that refused the invitation to come to the show, seriously missed out on an amazing show from David Bolton, as he hypnotised members of the audience to do some really funny things, such as rowing a boat, being a super spy and even a nit nurse!

David Bolton Performed HypnoMagic Live @ApolloCinemas Rhyl

So the night kicked off at about 7:45 with David Bolton explaining to everyone a little bit about hypnosis and what he does in his show and the safety aspects on who can and shouldn’t come up to the stage to be hypnotised.

Then after a little coaxing of the audience several of them took the plunge and took to the stage for the night of fun to begin.

Now I do have to say that I was little sceptical at first, as I am probably one of the few people who can’t be hypnotised and believe me I have tried it to help with the habit of biting my nails, but nothing, so I wasn’t really sure that this was going to be a good show or not, oh how wrong I was.

Right from the very start when David Bolton placed the audience members in a state of trance, I could see that this was going to be a special evening and that my chuckle and face muscles were going to get a damn good work out, which they most certainly did!

The first part of the evening was some simple things to start off with, but even these had myself and the audience in fits of laughter, but the best was yet to come with the second half of the show and the interval!

Click here to view the embedded video.

Have You Met My Mate Harvey!

So just before the interval, two of the participants of the show were told that during the interval they would be doing something and these were that one guy would go around introducing everyone to his six-foot, invisible rabbit, friend called Harvey and the other would be a Sargent Major telling everyone to get back to Barracks.

Suffice to say that Harvey seemed a rather friendly rabbit as the guy introduced us to him in the bar and around the Cinema

And So On To The Second Half

As I mentioned earlier the second half of the show was even funnier, with some crazy stuff going on, dancing, glasses that made the participants think that every in the audience was naked and loads, loads more. I’ve never laughed so much in my life and we wasn’t all laughing at the people who were hypnotised, it was more of laughing with them.

My only hope this that David Bolton, will return to the Apollo Cinema and do another show and if we can get the word around how brilliant it was. As I’ve always said the Apollo Cinema isn’t just a place for films, it’s a place to meet up, have fun and see events such as this one, in my humble point of view there should be loads more.

So if you missed the show last night, then get on over to the Apollo Cinema in Rhyl and ask them for more events like this and find out when other events are on. Go on live a little

They’re bringing amazing sounds to my speakers and their EP We Are Here, to be released April 3rd, is one not to miss.
For more information, check out their website: http://www.rooftoprunners.com/

Streets really made me think, all the different instruments would sound incredibly weak if they weren’t together, but they are so it’s all quite powerful, the vocals are clearly what we’re meant to be listening to, and the lyrics aren’t too bad either. Musically, there’s no variation between a verse and a chorus. I think that these guys are going for a sound that isn’t your typical structured pop song.

Click here to view the embedded video.

A nice little riff starting off Energize and I was right, they’re not going for standard pop songs. There’s a synth in here that sounds exactly like the sound of a phone vibrating, so I was constantly checking my phone! No offence…
Rooftop Runners wouldn’t be the first band I’d be putting on my iPod, but I’d have them as background music at a party.

Lets see what Bang Bang has in store for us…

There’s some awesome sounds coming from this, and I’m enjoying listening to the different elements. I can feel a bit of dubstep coming through here. It wasn’t the big Bang that I was hoping for, but nether the less, still a nice song.

She Devil is my favourite, and I’m not going to give anything away from this track. You’ll have to buy the EP on April 3rd.

Overall, these guys know their production and they know how they want to sound. They’ve achieved an awesome EP and you’d be sorry to pass over them.

We Are Here gets 7/10 from me.
