Chernobyl Diaries – Blazing Minds Film Review

Chernobyl Diaries is the latest film from the mind of Oren Peli, who allegedly terrified people with his first film Paranormal Activity (personally I found that a complete snooze fest). The Chernobyl Diaries follows the story of six young people on holiday who are looking for some excitement and decide to go off the beaten path and hire an “extreme” tour guide.

Ignoring all the obvious warnings, he takes them on a tour of Pripyat, the now abandoned home of the former workers of the Chernobyl nuclear reactor, but what they believe to be abandoned isn’t and soon they find themselves stranded with someone or something watching their every move.

Chernobyl Diaries – Blazing Minds Film Review

Let’s face it, this is another one of those try to shock movies with creepy things, loud noises and predictable scare tactics, I had my doubts about it right from the start when I heard the name “Oren Peli” and “Paranormal Activity” mentioned, both of which just give the thoughts of yet another boring film just waiting to send me to sleep.

Very much like Paranormal Activity the film plays on your mind and gives you the hope of something terrifying and really nasty!

Though, for me this never really happened, there’s lots of running around and screaming and crying from the six main characters, of which all are remarkably unlike-able, there’s that point where you think, “just kill them off and get it over and done with!”.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, it’s films like this that just need to be shelved

There are jumpy moments in the film, well for those people that are jumpy, I found it more interesting watching some people jump and others just sitting there, the problem is, you just know when something is going to happen, it’s so predictable and let’s face it these types of films have been done over and over again!

In my humble opinion, Chernobyl Diaries is one of those films that should have stayed in can, never to be seen! But due to the fact that Oren Peli had so much success with the over-hyped and boring Paranormal Activity, Hollywood probably thought to themselves, I know let’s hype up another movie from the same guy and screw the movie going public out of more cash!

It’s no wonder that people are slowly stopping going to cinemas if this is the kind of rubbish that they have to put up with.

Overall Thoughts For Chernobyl Diaries

If you are one of those that found Paranormal Activity good (God knows why) or even The Devil Inside (another atrocious waste of time) enjoyable, then you’ll like this, if you want something that is interesting, fascinating, fun and is really enjoyable to watch, then give this a wide berth and go and see something like Jaws or even Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter instead!

Oh, this is finally out? I’ve been looking forward to it actually. Not because I think it’s probably going to be a good movie (Paranomal Activity wasn’t that good either), but because I’m somewhat fascinated about the whole Chernobyl deal. I’d like to go there some day myself to experience the area.
