Who You Gonna Call?
Ghostbusters is just one of those films that even since it release 27 yeas ago, it is still funny and you can’t say that about many films these days. With its sometimes dry humour and outrageously funny take on three college professor going into the Ghostbusters business, it really was something new at the time and this showed in the box office takings.
So back in 1984 the world was introduced to Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd), Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis) and Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson) and their battle to save Dana Barret (Sigourney Weaver) and Louis Tully (Rick Moranis) who have opened the Gate of Hell after being possessed.
Hysterical daft, great ones liners and as I mentioned earlier something new for cinema audiences to enjoy and who can’t forget the amazing catchy theme tune from Ray Parker Jr.
The Boys Are Back In Town!
Five years after we had all enjoyed the Ghostbusters “Savin’ The Day” they were back trying to save the Big Apple from an underground flow of paranormal goo which was threatening the city and the world, again
The team was back together and bustin’ ghosts again, though if memory serves me right, Ghostbusters II wasn’t as popular as the first, but it still had the same feel as the original and it was great to have those crazy character back on the big screen for another outing.
Though may be cinema goers weren’t really in to the feel of the movie any more, it came at the end of the 80′s and the 90′s were just around the corner, but for me, I still love both of the movies and most of the time one can’t be watched without the other straight after it
Ghostbusters 3 – Gossip Or Is It Going To Happen?
I’ve heard so many rumours of a third Ghostbusters movie but I’m never sure if it is going to happen or not, there has been mention of the main characters handing over to a new generation of Ghostbusters, true or not, I’m not sure.
There has also been mention that filming would start in 2012 with mention of Anna Farris and Matthew Gray Gubler staring in the film!
I would really like to see a third Ghsotbusters, even it just nicely ends with a trilogy, though as we all know Hollywood does have a terrible tendency to keep remaking films! (Please Stop remaking Everything)
Ghostbusters – It’s A Classic!
So this is my selection for this weeks Classic Film Friday, it’s fun, it’s daft, it’s comic genius and best of all it’s one of those movies from my childhood that keeps looking at me from my DVD collection and saying “Come on, stick me in the DVD player and give those chuckle muscles a work out!”

Good choice – it is a classic. GB 2 wasn’t so popular, but I enjoyed it.
Trouble is, I now feel really old. I simply cannot believe that it’s been 27 years since that movie was released.

I know what you mean, time certainly shoots by, it was hard to believe when I was writing up the review for the Lion King 3D that that was originally released 17 years ago!

Hey Karen;
I absolutely love this movie – and no it’s not just because there are great Canadian actors in it. You are right on target when you say few movies can hold the laugh factor as long as Ghost Busters has. (Of course you didn’t REALLY need to remind me that the movie was released 27 years ago. Now I feel old. LOL!)
Anyway, great review and maybe I’ll have to spend some time watching it this weekend.

You’re right I didn’t have to remind you it was released 27 years ago, oh dear, I’ve just mentioned it’s 27 years old again! Oh I’ve done it again *cheeky laugh*

Karen – I love your blog, but I’m begging you! Stop with the release dates!
You’re making me feel about a hundred years old!

Awesome pick! They just re-released Ghostbusters where I live at the local theaters for Halloween. It was nice to be able to see it on the big screen again!

Hi Karen
Ghostbuster is for sure a real classic movie. I love Dan Aykroyd, he is a really great actor I think. Actually I saw another of his movie in TV yesterday: The Blues Brothers
Great movie too.

That’s another great classic movie, miles better than The Blues Brothers 2

Wow, this takes me back. I loved this film, but for me the strangest thing was being in the theater. Throughout the movie my friend and I laughed out loud often but it seemed like no one else in the theater got it. Then when the movie ended people actually stood up and applauded; I’d never heard anyone applaud a movie before. I guess we just weren’t cool enough not to laugh.

I think those days of people applauding a movie have gone, shame really

Ah, Ghostbusters. I grew up watching that movie, and I can’t count the number of times that I have seen it. It is a true film classic for sure.
