Nice post, Angus!
Regarding coffee I think it’s all about the Placebo effect. I can drink coffee in the evening and yet sleep like a log afterwards. Instead I see the beneficial effects of coffee in the body scrubs I prepare myself. The skin is so soft and clean, plus it has a wonderful smell.
The way I see it, addictions – of any kind – are controlled by our mind; the body asks for them because the brain tells so. If we know how to control the brain, then any addiction is controllable.

I used coffee to help with quitting drinking, although I’ve slipped back into it recently. But my liver is saying “Enough, enough!”. But yea if I feel like a beer I have two coffees = problem solved. I couldn’t imagine life without cigarettes though. Congratz on beating that. It takes shitloads of willpower, more addictive than heroin.

hahah, yeah. One side-effect of coffee is ramblings. I used coffee to help curb another addiction as well. For me though, it was cigarettes. I quit cigs and picked up coffee, to an excessive degree. I haven’t ever experienced the ‘crawling’ feeling though..

As for 2012, I’m on the skeptical side of that. I don’t think anything at all will happen… maybe some kind of placebo elevated-consciousness effect and we will all revert back to the 60′s, but that’s it.

But you make a good point. It is amazing all the technology we have created that we take for granted. People see a bulky plane weight hundreds of pounds flying in the sky, and we just pass it off as, “meh, its just a plane dude”. It is truly amazing all we have accomplished, and equally amazing how we just pass it off as ordinary & mundane. My electric guitar is MAGICAL.

I think it’s a very good thing. I have an addictive personality. Recently quit drinking and can definitely see the benefits. Would be good to be free of addictions completely… but that would also make me less human I guess. Weakness is natural, and I go with my gut feelings which often conflict with hierarchical control systems hence me not being religious. I acknowledge for some though that those control systems can lead to a healthy, balanced and happier lifestyle. Thanks for commenting

For religious reasons, I don’t drink alcohol, coffee, or tea, or use any tobacco. After reading this, I guess that’s a good thing!

that’s why i encourage you to check out the links about the mayan calendar. it’s not about “the end of the world”, the blockbuster has warped people’s perception of what it means. the mayans accurately predicted thousands of years ago, without any technology, things like eclipses, that proved to be true and accurate to the hour. their calendar is a cycle and it simply starts anew on 21/12 2012. they’re not around anymore to tell us what this might mean, but there’s all sorts of speculation regarding it. science is a fair approximation of most things but as i’m trying to convey in this post sometimes you just look around at all the amazing things going on in the world and think there must be more than meets the eye. 2012 is a good thing to look forward to in this regard. if nothing happens so be it, but millions of people have got “the 2012 bug” and hope for something that will shake the foundations of perception.

oh and coffee is not a placebo. that’s just self-evident. it is all in the mind, but that doesn’t make it any less of a drug. the effects of weed and ecstacy are also “all in the mind”.

I don’t believe in these so called prophecies. Nobody can predict when the end of the world would be but I want to see the movie 2012 because of its special effects.

Regarding coffee I really don’t see its benefit. If I drink coffee and after 10 minutes I put myself into bed I will sleep like a child because it has no effect on me. Same with energy drinks. These things are really dangerous for peoples health, yet many are depending on them but I believe that everything is just inside peoples minds. The Placebo effect works very well.

Yea I’ve heard it’s visually and aurally impressive, it just annoys me that they’ve perverted the whole value system of the 2012 evolution ie. “The Mayans warned us this would happen”, it’s not about the end of the world it’s a lot more joyous than that. Mind you it could be bullshit but I’m always optimistic and often mystically inclined.

Just a quick note about the new “2012″ movie … I loved it! It’s not a documentary or anything like that but it has some great special effects (made on a computer I assume), but it was interesting to watch

Not one I would go out to buy though, but worth watching in the movies with great surround sound and large picture.

Now I’ll go make myself a cup of joe!
