Those of you who have followed my tweets today will have noticed that I am a bit under the weather at the moment and thanks to those that have tweeted me with the get wells ;)

I tall started yesterday, when I developed a bit of a ticklish cough and had to stop off on the way to work to be up some lozenges to sooth the discomfort, sadly after paying £3.69 for some Strepsils, they didn’t seem to help and my sore throat just got worse.

So this morning I woke up with a sore throat and the sniffles, the first thing someone said to me was “Maybe you have swine flu“, some people just have no sympathy at all!

Not long ago I tried an age-old remedy of a mug of hot milk and a teaspoon of whiskey, blimey that was strong, but it’s not working, so it’s going to be a case of riding it out, most of the time when I get these “bugs” they only last for 48 hours, so hopefully it should be coming to an end very soon.

So it looks like tonight I’m going to be wrapped in lots of blankets, a hot water bottle and a glass of milk and whiskey to try and sweat it out!

Sad…I used to suffer from those sinus-related stuff as a teenager and I know how bad it can go..

Do you get Vicks in UK? It has been my friend all along…Everytime I get cold, I do two things.

    1. The first day I have it, I apply lots of it over my nose, throat and forehead and go to sleep covering myself completely under the blanket..If you wake up sometime in the middle of the night, don’t forget to apply some more..Most often it gets ok by day..

    2. If things are not working, boil some water and once the water is boiling hot…drop a spoon of Vicks into it…Now cover yourself (and the vessel with boiling water) with a blanket and keep your head over the steam..Just 4-5 minutes and you will be sweating hard…It provides a lot of relief.

Dunno if it sounds crazy, but it worked a lot for me…

I’m sorry to read that you’re feeling like a wet dog with a huge head, Karen! I’ve never tried whiskey when sick. Hmm… I wonder if an Irish coffee might do the trick? Nah, you’re better off staying hydrated. Sucking on ice helps. Feel better soon!

I am sorry to hear about this, Karen. I wish you a speedy recovery although it seems here to have a cold too. I noticed that many people are complaning from this winter either who I know offline in real life or online (bloggers, twitterville, etc) so this year is special!
