I’ve been a fan of Resident Evil for many years, not the film series, but the games. I can remember right back to the first one when I leapt out of my skin during the early section of the game.
Many years on we get the movies starring Milla Jovovich and though these weren’t that bad, it was always inevitable that a CGI version which characters from the game would be released and in 2008 it happened with the release of Resident Evil Degeneration.
It’s like going back to bones of the franchise with the CGI very close to cut scenes on the latest Resident Evil games, though this does get a bit of getting used to the CGI, in my point of view, is nowhere as realistic as that of Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within.
What’s Resident Evil Degeneration About?
In the movie we get to re-meet two characters from one of the Resident Evil games Claire Redfield and Leon S. Kennedy. It’s 7 years since the Raccoon City tragedy and they’re ready to take on a rogue warrior who is seeking revenge after his family was killed in Raccoon City.
The G-Virus is unleashed and a new monster is unleashed to go on the rampage, so it’s down to Claire and Leon to save the day.
As I mentioned earlier the CGI does seem a little strange, but besides from that it’s not a bad movie, it’s not a long film, only running at 1h 32mins, but it’s enjoyable, I think if you’re a fan of the games, then this is certainly for you, if not, then it’s worth seeing for blatant carnage of zombies, YEAH!!!!
It’s a simple story, nothing complicated with the odd twist, if the thought of the previous Resident Evil movies puts you off, then forget about those, this IS how a Resident Evil movie should be and the previous three should of really been left to these guys to produce.
Are there any Special features?
There a few, but nothing really to shout about, a few trailers, blooper reel, character profiles.
My overall rating 4/5

I watched all the Resident Evil movies and liked them a lot. Resident Evil Degeneration was a bit strange and didn’t impressed me very much. Like you said the CGI was strange in some way.

I have to admit I was a serious fan of the games, still would be if I was ever allowed to get in front of the TV to play anything (the joy of having a 7 year old daughter and Wii).
The Resident Evil films have been on my films to watch list for way too long, I actually need to rent them so I have no excuse not to watch them.
At least now I can say ‘Karen said I should watch it’.
