EMI – A new site for 2009 – Review

Yet again those wonderful people over at FuelMyBlog have granted me with the privilege to write another review and this time it’s the turn of EMI, yes the music EMI ;)

EMIEMI have a new site and it’s currently in beta, but so far it looks and runs fantastically, so what’s it all about then, well to put it simply the EMI website is an Online Music site where you can stream a great collection of tracks by a vast collection of artists, make your own playlists and has a great collection of features to entice you into the artists music that is listed on the site and believe me there’s lot of it!

The home page greats you with a carousel of releases for you to pick from, a bit like the way album covers can be flicked through on an iPod and iTunes, you get the latest news, an RSS feed and on the right of the screen a video which plays as soon as the website loads, nice touches indeed.

Next the “Discover” tab, putting it simply a search box for you to find artists which are similar to an artist that you like, I tried this by typing in “Orbital” my all time favourite electronic duo and it came up with the like of Bjork, Aphex Twin, 808 State, Kraftwerk and Leftfield. So in my point of view that’s almost spot on, works for me.

“Artists” is the next tab, “My God it’s full of stars!” been dying to use that for ages, but it is, here you can browse through “Breakthrough Artists” and just browse artists, clicking on an artists picture takes you to the discography page for the artist, with music to stream, videos, photos and bio, I clicked through a few and there are some great artists listed, shame not to see Remergence on there yet thought ;)

EMI - Artists tab
Onto the “Charts” tab, again this really speaks for itself with a list of the top streamed tracks and artists.

The last tab on the site is the “My Stuff” tab, this is where you can build your own playlists of the tracks that you have found on EMI and enjoy listening to, edit your account and even grab a widget so you can share your playlist with your friends, nice touch.

Overall the EMI site is great for finding even more artists to listen to and another site for you to stream music from while your doing other things, very nice indeed, the sound quality of the tracks when streaming is good and clear, and all the well known names that you may like are mostly on there, so another plus point.

A thumbs up from this music fan, simple design, easy navigation and great tunes will certainly build this sites reputation amongst music fans everywhere.
