Now many users of the EntreCard system have said that is a long time coming, but according to the latest blog post on the EntreCard blog they are to “take action against bounce rates

So before I get on to this, I’ll just give you a quick bit of info about bounce rates, a Bounce Rate is when a visitor lands on your blog and then leaves straight away without spending time looking around your blog and EntreCard is a terrible culprit for making you have a high percentage on your bounce rates….

So as mentioned by EntreCard they intend to implement a system that will decide if the dropper is a “drop and run” visitor, this is someone who is only there to drop on your ECard and then zip off to another blog, to get in as many drops as they can in the day without even reading your blog, shame on them! As mentioned in the EntreCard Blog:

Up until now, we’ve always allowed the “drop and run” phenomenon to take place. We figured if someone was interesting to the visitor, they’d stop and read, and it was best to let everyone go at their own pace. But now we are taking a slightly different approach, in an ongoing effort to increase the quality of Entrecard traffic across the board.

My problem with the drop and run phenomenon is that you are spending time writing an interesting post only for someone to stop by, drop on the ECard and bugger off! I write these posts not just for me you know but for others to read and show some interest by posting comments, not visit and say, “ok I’ve dropped, I’m off!”

So what will EntreCard be doing about this, well this is what they have said on their official blog:

Starting soon, “dropping and running” will no longer give you credit. We are developing a proprietary algorithm to determine whether or not you engaged in the blog you visitied in some way. If you did not engage in the blog, you will not get credit. We won’t be disclosing exactly the algorithm we use, so that people can’t game it easily.

So it seems that something is been done, but will this cut the amount of view to a blog showing the EntreCard widget? Probably, but isn’t it better to get a few less visits and gain visitors that actually appreciate your blogging, only time will tell when the new system is finally implemented.

The only problem I see with this is visiting blogs that don’t update every day. Am I supposed to re-read their latest post for a week just to get my one credit? Otherwise, I think this is a great idea, if they can make it work.

It’s ultimately one of those situations where you need to decide which of the two evils your more willing to accept. Not to spam but I would consider this suggestion:

    1. Click my CommentLuv link below “RSS feeds for Bloggers and Readers”
    2. Read about Feedly for Firefox
    3. Install Firefox Add On
    4. Create new category
    5. Add your E-Card blogs rss feed to Feedly

Doing the above will let you see when a blog updates and only when they have a new article, helps you not to waste time and stay efficient, in addition the category allows you to knock out those E-Cards faster than rolling through bookmarks.

    Whatever.

Be ready for some really spammy comments then.

No one should be forced to leave a comment on a post they have no interest in.

I know for a fact you don’t practice what you preach.

You drop on my blog, you leave no comment but do you hear me bitching about it?

    Thanks for allowing to vent.

although I’m all about getting rid of stop and go droppers, given EC colossal foul up of the advertising system recently, i am not holding my breath for any kind of miracle cure with all this, but rather somethign tha is going to alienate folks again.

i hope i’m wrong, but something tells me that’s what’s going to happen

    Hey there Karen,

I don’t mind this “new” policy, BUT only if they disclose what this secret algorithm is. I want to be assured that when I visit a blog and drop, I did everything I could have done to earn the drop. What is stopping Entrecard from not paying out hundreds of credits because we didn’t “meet their criteria”? If they disclose, I think it’s for the better. If not, look out for a MASSIVE EXODUS!

It seems fair to some, but the new feature might just be more of an issue to others. I always thought that if your site was setup correctly and you had eye catching headlines/content, that it would be enough for the user to stay on and browse more.

They will have to explain how they are going to ensure this new algorithm

I just questioned about EC’s algorithm; if they are just trying to remove EC credits in the EC economy. I can only hope that they play a fair game.

This is clearly a self serving move for Entrecard as they will cut down on the amount of credits. It will be virtually impossible to make 300 drops unless you make it your full time job. That would be 30 cents a day. I guess we will see how it goes. I would trade traffic volume for quality traffic any day of the week,

Groan…big and loud. They can’t seem to decide what they want. They are becoming the idea of the week club. No other social network changes gears as fast as they do without thought to the pros and cons.

There are sites that drop on me regularly, so I return the favor; even though they may not have updated their blog in weeks or longer. Funny example is the #1 blog. Ad Master can go weeks without updating and yet, one constantly reads what a fabulous blog she has. I see the cheesey sexy shots which I know have nothing to do with the content, and yes I drop and move on.

There are days when I’ve kept track of the number of comments I’ve left. Sometimes around 50, and maybe I’ll get 3 or 4 back, and some of those are quick one liners like cool blog. So, personally I don’t believe this latest idea will amount to much. It seems most of EC ideas don’t. Though if it really does, I’m sure they’ll loose another huge chunk of people like they did when they closed out the forums, and don’t forget the chunk when they went to the first type of paid ads.

What will they think of next………..gees, it surely gets tiresome. It’s also hard if you’re blogging, commenting, and dropping to read all their hair brained ideas to even stay current.

What does close tags mean? Just noticed it in your tab above the place where we’re leaving comments?

I think that would be pretty cool..something similar to like Blog Explosion where you don’t get credit until you’ve been on the site for at least 30 seconds..It gives you time to browse the blog to find something you might be interested in commenting on.

Actualy Karen, bounce rate is affected by all these kind of social advertising networks. Such attiude of ‘dropping and running’ inspired me to write about this few months ago with the post entitled ‘Click and Run’ and i’ve attached it to this comment.

Anyway I hope they will take serious steps for the sake of EC users.
