Now a lot of us on Twitter, including myself @, tweet with the FollowFriday hash tag to let our followers see who we recommend to follow on Twitter, but are you using the hashtag correctly.

I’ve seen many twitters tweeting with #ff this is all very well and good, but did you know that if you use the #FollowFriday hashtag you’ll get a little bit of extra linkage for your twitter, what you didn’t know, then let me know how.

If you use the #FollowFriday hashtag you will get added to the list of twitters using it on the website TopFollowFriday here all the twitters using the tag will be listed with who has endorsed them, who you have endorsed and more.

TopFollow Friday on Twitter

This is really useful to see your [intlink id="list-twitter-followers-recommend" type="post"]FollowFriday[/intlink] recommendations, it also has a top 100 of twitters who are using the tag or have been mentioned with the #FollowFriday tag.

So remember when you are using the FollowFriday Twitter tag, use the full title, not the #ff this way you will get listed  and found it what can be described as a FollowFriday directory of twitters that are recommending friends, followers and twitters they like on Twitter.

UPDATED 26/2/2010

A special thanks to @cornyman for letting me know that #ff is accepted at TopFollowFriday, so now it’s entirely up to you ;) Also  it has to be the 1st word in a tweet, if someone RTs the #ff the RT should be at the end of the tweet or it won’t count as #ff

Hi Karen, this is a great tip. I think people use #ff to save time but it really doesn’t mean the same thing. I use #ff when I’m thanking someone for #FollowFriday. I hope that makes sense. :)

I didn’t know about that website, but I also began using #FF (sometimes in addition to #FollowFriday). I’m not sure about Follow Friday though, I don’t think it really gives any new followers.

Personally I rarely follow anybody myself, based on #FF recommendations.

    What about you?

having never done it, lets see if I understand. You’re simply saying, in a tweet, to use #followfriday instead of just #ff, yes?

This way all your info gets added to that site and its an extra traffic source…

I don’t always participate, but mostly because I’m not too terribly active on Twitter these days. Yet, I will definitely remember to use the full hashtag and not the abbreviated one. I often wondered if it mattered and now I know. Thanks, Karen. :)

It’s nice to see someone finally came out with something to add some kind of value to Follow Friday, up until seeing this I found it to be more annoying than good. I have a post about it, I won’t go nuts here haha.

I don’t see me recommending huge lists of people anytime soon, but I will continue to recommend my highest quality Twitter friends.

Hi, I’m just setting up my twitter account and this sounds like a really good thing to do. I hadn’t even heard of Follow Friday, but I will make sure I use the long version – Thanks!
