We really like dressing up in costumes. I was a nerd last night. Not the nerd I normally am, but kinda like Steve Erkel. I even had the special nerd walk down. It was loads of fun.

Our kids who are too old to Trick or Treat usually like to hand out the candy. I have mixed emotions about the candy. On the one hand, kids (and adults) really like and enjoy candy. On the other hand, it really is bad for their health, not just the teeth.

Anyway, it is a tradition here in the States, one that has been around for a long time. I doubt that it will stop any time soon.

By the way the edit feature is just great. I noticed a couple of spelling errors after clicking to submit. It works great.

I am pretty Halloween'd out at this point, I spent the last two days running between 6 different stores taking pictures for our Halloween costume contest. Wow, if you hate Halloween for those reasons, then I would imagine you hate Christmas because of the commercialism. However, fewer people actually die during the Halloween festivities such as Trick or Treating, horror movies, and partying, than they do during the Christmas festivities such as stampeding through malls in a pursuit to save a few freaking dollars on gifts that you’ll be making payments on for the next six months! People have DIED in pursuit of christmas gifts, and yet Halloween is considered the devil’s holiday? Hmmm…

To me, Halloween is just fun. It’s not the trick or treating, I stopped doing that in 2nd grade. Sure, I buy some candy in case we get a few knocks on the door. But to me, Halloween is about having fun, getting scared, and just pretending to be evil for a little while. It’s just fun, and it aggravates me that some people have some big problem with that.

And yes, Halloween has STRONG connections to the Catholic faith, so for those who think Halloween is the work of the devil, then you’re basically badmouthing Catholicism.

Do live in the US or the UK? I think Halloween seems to be treated quite differently in the two countries. It looks like a lot of fun in America (from what I’ve seen in movies, my primary source of education ). But in the UK it’s not really a big thing, and most of the people doing it are just trouble makers looking for some free food or an excuse to egg your house!

Speak of the devil, a couple of trick or treaters just came to my door as I was typing this reply. I dealt with it in the most mature way possible – by hiding in the dark until they’d gone

Do you limit the candy your kids get? If they get a lot, making sure they eat it in moderation and not all at once. That’s two people that like the buttons so far, it looks like they’ll be staying

I agree with you. Trick or treat was not something we did when I was a kid. It has been imported from the States and perpetuated by the retail industry so they can flog some more Chinese tat.
