Hit and Miss On Sky Atlantic – Review

Sky Drama brought us a new intriguing series last night in the form of “Hit and Miss” from Paul Abbott, the man who brought us Shameless. Starting with Mia (Chloë Sevigny) gunning down a guy in a parking lot then returning home to take a shower to give us a little surprise! Yes a shower scene with a difference, for Chloë Sevigny had to don a prosthetic penis!!!

The Mia character is a pre-op transsexual with a killer instinct, who learns that her previous partner, Wendy, had Cancer and she’s died and Mia has a 11-year-old son!

Forget Your Old Life!

So does Mia forget her “old life” as she puts it and ignore Wendy’s request, or does she go to her son!

It’s an interesting dilemma that so many have faced with the issue of transgender and the problems faced by being accepted or rejected by family, but this has the twist that Mia is an assassin.

And so the first episode goes on with the children questioning Mia with things like “So you were a man and now you’re a woman, so does that mean your guy!” and Mia replying “No I’m straight“, then Mia been told to leave.

Hit and Miss is a moving show in parts and may be an eye opener to those that have no idea how transsexuality can affect both sides.

As the first episode goes on it does seem that it may be entirely based in the location of the old farmhouse, but still, it’s a series that does grab you wanting to know more and to find out if all of Wendy’s kids will accept Mia for who she is and not who she was.

It’ll also be interesting to see how they respond to not only knowing that Mia used to be Ryan’s dad but she’s also an assassin, how are they going to react to that one!

Hit and Miss is well-directed has a great cast and has you glued to every second, if the rest of the episodes are as good as the first, then Hit & Miss is certainly going to be a “Hit”. My only problem is the Irish accent that Chloë Sevigny has to put on, I’m not really sure about it, but I suppose I’ll get used to it as the series continues.

But I’m looking forward to the rest of this drama series to see how the story unfolds and pans out in the end.

You can catch Hit & Miss of Sky Atlantic on Tuesday’s at 10pm.
