Now this is a question that I have been pondering on for a while now, with my blog getting more popular over the last few months and the fact that I now seem to post everyday, now that is something I never thought I would be doing, the question crossed my mind on what to do when I have my holiday!
So I thought I would come up with a blog post with some blogging tips and what I’m thinking of doing and some ideas that others could possibly use and maybe my loyal readers, you know who you are, could come up with some advice as well.
- If you post every day, then keep some of your posts back that you write and schedule them over the week that you are away.
- Take a laptop with you if you, if you have one, and use hotspots to blog while you are away.
- Utilize Twitter to act as your mini blog.
- Ask a friend to guest blog for you while you are away.
- If you get a lot of emails via your blog then turn off your settings in WordPress to email you about comments, also set up a “auto responder” on you email address explaining that you are away and that you will answer emails when you get back!
- And most important of all, let your readers know that you may have a dip in posts because you are taking a break.
So there you have it, just some of the things I can think of, if anyone else has any advice then please let me know

I agree with Lilyruth.. you have covered all the points… I think letting your readers know you’ll be away for a while is good idea, it’s better than keeping them wandering. Also I prefer to manually approve comments but by turning off that option you can let your readers or even new comers to comment on your site while your away. But of course one should have Akismet installed.

Obviously a great idea to schedule posts so you still have new content for when you’re away – I was just wondering, what one would do about comments while you’re away? I know that you usually have to approve “new commentators” before their comment is visible, but what if somebody who commented before, decides to make a really ugly comment and/or link to something bad and you can’t do anything about it since you’re away and don’t know what happened?
Just something I thought about after reading your post

Nice tips Karen but I’m the kind of blogger that thinks that a holiday must be a FREE-WORK Holiday.

I like the idea of asking a friend to guest post for you while your away, especially if they can actually write decent.

I quite like that one myself, but most of my close friends wouldn’t know how to blog if I gave them a manual
and those that do and are good at writing a decent post are too busy!

I think you’ve got it all covered!!
Scheduled posts are angels for when you’re away, or busy, or need to study or promote but need the blog to keep ticking over…
A blog-free holiday, maybe -don’t think I could ween myself off twitter… is that sad?
And maybe it would be fun to leave the site in someone elses hands for a week… would keep it fresh I guess!

Hi Vicky, I certainly won’t be able to ween myself off Twitter, that’s one thing I will still do on my Hols.
I think guest posts are an excellent idea, but I also think a great idea is to use pen and paper away from the blog, and if something strikes you as a great idea during your holiday, write about it for yourself and maybe blog it later.
I know that sounds nuts: omg my blog isn’t being updated?? But part of the point of web publishing is that your content will be found, and your time away is your time away. Part of the point, in other words, is that you don’t need a continual stream of information: people should drop by regardless.
