Ice Age 4 Continental Drift – Blazing Minds Film Review

Ice Age 4 Continental Drift hits the big screens in 3D, those lovable and rather crazy family of animals are back with another adventure to warm our hearts and tickle our funny bones.

But this time Scrat has caused the continents to separate and in turn Manny (Ray Romano) is spilt apart from his family and set adrift on the high seas for an adventure with pirates and Sid’s rather crazy granny (Wanda Sykes)!

Ice Age 4 Continental Drift – Blazing Minds Review

So what we are getting here with Ice Age 4 is the continuing story of those characters that we all came to love in the original Ice Age back in 2002, but this time Peaches (Keke Palmer) is now a teenager and is like most teenagers wants to fit in with the in crowd, but with Scrat causing the contents to form and separate by the aid of his acorn antics the family is separated.

Ice Age 4 - 20th Century Fox

Manny (Ray Romano), Diego (Dennis Leary), Sid (John Leguizamo) and Granny (Wanda Sykes) are set adrift to have a comical and dangerous adventure bumping in to a pirate ice berg, with a vicious and stupid crew run by Captain Gutt (Peter Dinklage).

One liners a plenty and enough comedy to keep adults and kids laughing in the isles, Ice Age 4 is a real fun family movie, though the question has to be asked, how many more of these can they do?

I do have to say that for me Granny just steals every scene she is in, she’s mad and wonderful at the same time and Wanda Sykes has a brilliant knack of bringing the old slough to life with the crazy things she says and does, but in any Ice Age film you just can’t mention Sid and with his Granny in the film as well, we can really see where her get’s his stupidity from.

Even when they are about to be attacked by pirates, Sid still has to get in there with one of his witty and daft remarks:

Captain Gutt: “Ahoy down there! Surrender your ship, or face my fury!”
Sid: “Or face your furry what?”
Captain Gutt: “Not furry, FURY!”

Ice Age 4 Continental Drift 3D

Now to be honest, the use of 3D in films is starting to wear off on a lot of people and that first excitement of a film in 3D isn’t appealing as it once was, but saying that, when it comes to a film in CGI the 3D is much better than a “live action” film and the 3D in Ice Age 4 is very good, some of the darker scenes do suffer with a lack of depth, but when it comes to the brighter scenes they do pay off.

But if you can’t get to see the 3D version or one of those that 3D doesn’t really work then don’t worry, I think that you’ll enjoy the film in 2D just as much, although there are some scenes that in 2D you will think, yeah that was put in just to say the film is in 3D

Overall Thoughts For Ice Age 4 Continental Drift

You may be getting a little bored with the Ice Age franchise, but it has been some years since the last movie and this one is fun for all ages, you get see a lot more Scrat in this one and you’ll just love Granny. So if you want a fun family night out together, then chuckle your way through this one ;)

I wanted to see this movie but I really want to see the first three movies before so I guess I will end up watching Ice Age 4 on DVD later after I’ve caught up on the first three. I don’t know how I still haven’t seen the first one. It was on cable so many times too. But I also wonder if the story is a continued on from the first three movies?

I actually thought Ice Age 4 was the best kids movie of the Summer so far. I DID NOT enjoy Brave, the story was to re-hashed and un-original.
