Guest Blogging has recently come around as a new technique for communicating with other bloggers and getting your word out there! This is the most important aspect of Guest Blogging! Now the reason that using your social media profiles is so important is because, they allow you to get better outreach!
Most Guest Blogs usually offer you a Social Media link, and who cares if it is No Follow, that’s not what it is there for! What you need to remember is that when someone recognises your name from a series of advanced posts, it is always a good idea to link to a Twitter, Sphinn, Facebook or Linkedin account! Interestingly, this was something that I was horribly bad at doing and I generally linked back to our site or to a clients, which although was a nice benefit, didn’t really supply me with all that much.
So I used my Twitter account, and only once… The first time I used it on my name in a post I got published on a relatively popular blog; I received a bunch of followers! However you also have the issue that you can only realistically link to one of your social media accounts, so which one should it be? If you use you Twitter account at least you get the chance to coax in a potential follower! The only disadvantage is that this is all they get… Could you provide another Social media account that can give you and your readers more to use!
Linkedin is one of my personal favourites (even though I use a Twitter one here) because it could also be a way for you to gain business! Twitter gives people the chance to read your work, but Linkedin gives you the chance to tell everyone all of your social media accounts and gives them the opportunity to see all your work. What better way to get business, get read and find more opporunities that n through guest blogging?

Hi there Marcus, I’m not a big fan of linked in. I don’t know why but I just never enjoyed the environment. I do however use it for my professional career but do not mix it up with my social media and marketing activities. I prefer blog engage, face book and twitter. None the less I see the point you’re trying to make and agree with you.
I wish I could remember where I read this but it’s the best idea I got ever., When doing a guest post make sure to read the first 5 or 10 pages of previous articles. This will give you a good idea of what is popular on the blog.
I’ve done guest posting but it’s time consuming. I enjoy it and the benefits are great but it requires a lot of dedication and commitment to do it correctly.
Agreed that there are a number of resources which can help you promote your work when you guest blog, and enable people who read your work to follow you on other networks.
I’m eager to hear about how you think one should make themselves available in a guest post. Should there be an author description with links to facebook, twitter, etc.?

Hi Ashok,
In the same way that the Bio works on this page, you ca display a link and a Social Media link!
I chose to use my Twitter link as a way to gain more followers, and to increase the amount of people reading my articles!
An author Bio is usually the best way for you to make yourself available, using the link in the post is a bit to messy.
Thanks
Thanks so much for the advice! Another question, if you don’t mind: you’ve used Twitter and LinkedIn, but what have been your experiences with Facebook, and what would you suggest makes an effective guest post promotion there?

Hi Ashok
I haven’t found Facebook incredibly useful. However, it is a great way of building members to a page.
So if you have a group or page dedicated to your brand you can use this technique to build up followers.
Facebook is another route for you to use, and if people regularly check your page, they will have all your info on hand.
There is a lot more work involved for Facebook than there is Twitter, however there is the potential for more reward.
Hope This Helps!
Marcus

Good post Marcus. It’s good to point out that YOU are a brand, and any way you can possibly grow that brand is worthwhile. I don’t use LinkedIn that much either, but having it available can bring in the people that it is important to, and all of the social links combined can help you do quite well with your online brand.
Hi Aaron,
I definitely find that Linked In brings in more of a possibility for a job opportunity!
So for those that want a possible professional outlook! Especially if you are in the Internet marketing business.
Thanks

How important is social media for guest posters no matter the link is no-follow because the important point is the relationship with possible subscribers and the blogger. Twitter I think is the best option eventually Facebook too at the by-line.
My personal choice is Twitter
Cheers,

when i do guest posting, in the author bio, i always mention twitter and facebook along with my own blog. i think that must is ok, i allow that on my own blog and same goes when i guest post.
sphenn, digg etc. profiles does not really work and i never really got into linkedin either. twitter is good as you mentioned, if at all, you will get followers for sure

Great post Marcus.
Nowadays most of the blog owners provide one link to any social media account of the guest blogger. And I would prefer Twitter. The reason is that it will allow me to easily keep the new followers updated about my blog updates. So I not only get new followers, but also subscribers in one sense. I have read a discussion somewhere about whether Twitter is killing the RSS subscription thing. I think it is.

I always put my Twitter at the end of guest posts, there’s less stigma to following someone on Twitter than say connecting/linking up to people on FB/LI.

Social media can have a huge impact these days. People should learn to take advantage from it and exploit it’s opportunities. Thank you for this great post Marcus!
I would prefer Facebook and Twitter over LinkedIn. The reason is the audience at LinkedIn are more professional and business oriented (at least in my circle). Maybe because they don’t want to destroy their career profile.
