Guys, they know how to keep their women happy and no mistake! So you’ve been together a while, you’re happy with one another and because you’re in a stable relationship you let your guard down a bit, I’m not saying you slob out but maybe you pick up a few pounds here and there but you’re still shaving and putting on make-up; you’re hardly an embarrassment.
Not so fast, my Rubenesque cake-chaser! In a poll taken of 72,000 people across the States found that nearly half of the men, 48%, said they would ditch their girlfriend if she put on weight. And you thought he loved you for your mind!
Ladies, on the other hand, are far more loyal. Only 20% of them would kick their man to the kerb if he started showing signs of the porcine. But perhaps she should consider ditching the ballast for other reasons anyway. His attitude for example!
The poll revealed that while men are likely to lie about the number of sexual partners they had had, (because every-one loves a stud right?) the boot doesn’t fit the other foot; 42% of men said that they would consider a woman ‘sexually promiscuous’ if she had slept with 10 or more men. When women were classing men as sexually promiscuous they thought that more than twenty was probably too many.
People aren’t too forgiving when it comes to age either, more than 33% of men think that a woman looses her looks once she passes 40 and 25% that she’s well past her prime by 50. Never mind though, women have pretty much the same opinion although 23% believe a man will never loose his looks. (Thanks girls!)
So, sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings, I bet you’re feeling a little delicate right now. But you’ve got one of the good ones, right? One who really loves you because he tells you so? Dream on sister, 18% of men tell their girls that they love them simply to get them to consent to sex. Smooth moves guys, smooth moves!
And guess what? Once you’ve given in to his charming wiles, he doesn’t even have the good grace to think of you while you’re at it! Two thirds of men admitted to fantasizing about their girlfriend’s friends. So, I guess, at least you’re part of an attractive peer group. Try and take some consolation in that, and the fact that a third of the girls do exactly the same thing.
It’s not just girls who suffer from body confidence though, too much gym locker bragging has resulted in 51% of men wishing they were bigger where it counted, most girls were happy with what they were being presented with although 18% said that they too would like it if their man was able to provide a little more when it came down to it.
The survey was conducted by AskMen.com in conjunction with Cosmopolitan.com and James Bassil pointed out, with what must be an alarming degree of insight, that attitudes towards relationships hadn’t changed over the years. He also pointed out that: “other romantic behaviours have proven to be timeless ones: chivalry isn’t dead, size matters, and women forgive while men forget.”
