Another film with a love triangle for the other fans of the Twilight genre set in the underworld of demons, vampires and werewolves!
I had some high hopes for this film, the trailer looked really good and it did look like it was going to be one of those films that I would enjoy, how wrong I was.
Sadly The Mortal Instruments seems to be another one of the excuses for a film that tries to pull in the audience that loved the Twilight movies and now they have gone, it could have been a new part of the diet for the fans.
Clary (Lily Collins, daughter of Phil Collins) lives with her mother (Lena Headey) in Brooklyn, soon she learns that there is a little more to her life than she could ever have imagined.
After starting to draw strange symbols and then seeing something that no one else is able to see, she realises that she may be a little different to everyone else. Along comes the handsome, Jace (Jamie Campbell Bower), who reveals to her that he is a Shadowhunter, a warrior against the demons.
To be honest, the film really isn’t that good and I have been informed that the books are so much better, for me I just couldn’t come to like the characters and there just seemed to be something a little “Star Wars” to it towards the end of the film.
It just felt like it was dragging its feet along the script and just didn’t want to go anywhere, yes some of the fight sequences were nicely done. When you come to find out that the author Cassandra Clare, began as a writer of fan fiction which was inspired by the Harry Potter books, you can see the comparisons.
For me the film just doesn’t have a plot and characters that I want to know more about, I started to tire during the second half of the film and just wanted it to end. So for me it’s a big no, no.
But, for fans of Twilight, Harry Potter and maybe Percy Jackson, the “tweenagers” then The Mortal Instruments is probably going to be a film that they love, so who am I to say what you should see or not, at the end of the day, this is only my thoughts and review of the film.
