Now for many years I’ve had the terrible habit of biting my nails, sad I know, but it is an extremely hard habit to break once you start, there are many reasons why you may have started biting your nails, it could be a catchy nail that you’ve bitten off, nerves, boredom or just something you’ve done for years!

I had bitten my nails for many years and then stopped out of pure will power, but, sadly after a week in a hospital with the lack of food and the overdose of boredom, I started again and now my lovely long strong nails are in a terrible state…

Nail the HabitBut I have started using a solution called “Nail the Habit” which I picked up from Superdrug for only £1.95.

It’s simple to use, you just place a finger in the pot, one at a time, in the sponge which coats the tip of your finger with horrible tasting solution, which not only stops you biting your nails, but also helps condition the nails, cuticles and skin of your fingers.

So how does this stop you from biting your nails then?

Well “Nail the Habit” will leave a bitter taste in your mouth after you put your finger in your mouth and believe me it is very bitter and it lingers for ages! So it will gradually stop you from sticking your finger in your mouth, the drawback is, that if you eat biscuits, crisps or anything that you use your fingers for, you will transfer a small amount to the food giving it a funny taste, now don’t tell me that’s not an incentive to stop biting your nails.

I’ve used this since Wednesday evening and dip my fingers on the tiny post after I wash my hands and after meals or even when the urge to bite comes along and so far I have only tried to bite my nails 3 or 4 times, which means it’s working.

So hopefully in a few weeks I should of broken this horrible habit and started getting my nails back to how they should be….

I have started back doing it myself. My left thumb nail is a hot mess at the moment. I know I shouldn’t do it, but I keep doing it. I might have to try the product. I’ve tried similar nail polishes before (bitter taste one). Do you know by any chance if Nail the Habit is carried in the US. I noticed you listed the price in pounds.

I’m not sure, I should think you should be able to, just do a search for “Nail The Habit” and you should be able to find a list of US distributors..

I hope they have this in the states. I have a daughter who chews pencils (and has for YEARS). She literally goes through a box a month. (Pens, mechanical pencils, same.) We’ve tried all sorts of stuff, but that is what I need.

    Thanks for the tip!

I used to bite my nails when I was a kid, but just out of curiosity, having seen my older brother doing that :) )). Luckily it didn’t last too long. Now when I happen to chip a nail, I bite it off a little cause I don’t like it hanging there.
