ParaNorman 3D – Blazing Minds Film Review

ParaNorman is a young boy who lives in the town of Blithe Hollow, but he’s not like other children of his age, he can speak to the dead.
Norman goes about his life talking to the dead as if they are still alive and no one believes in his abilities except for his friend Neil from school.

Then one day, Norman’s rather strange uncle tells him of a ritual that he must perform to protect the town from a curse that was cast on the town elders hundreds of years ago.

After his uncle dies, Norman takes on his uncles responsibility and has to save the town from the witches curse and the town elders who have returned as Zombies.

So now it’s up to young Norman to save the town from the Zombies and the Witch.

ParaNorman 3D – Blazing Minds Film Review

ParaNorman is brought to us from the guys who did Coraline, it has that similar style of animation and dark comedy, it’s not going to be as exciting as you think from the trailer, but none the less, it’s an enjoyable film.

Though I do have to point out that some very young children may find ParaNorman a little scary and other children will be asking questions about the ghoulish goings on during the film.

ParaNorman and Family

I did hear several children asking if Norman was seeing the ghosts or if he was making believe etc. But overall the kinds in the Apollo Cinema in Rhyl did seem to be enjoying the film, there were plenty of laughs coming from them and their parents.

There are parts of the film that are aimed at the parents more so than the kids, this is probably down to the adults having to sit through an animated movie, let’s face it, mot don’t like to do it, but with ParaNorman there are those moments where adults will get the in-house movie jokes.

Such as Norman’s mobile ringing with a rather famous horror movie theme and then looking out of the window to see his friend in a hockey mask.

Now ParaNorman isn’t going to be a film for very young children and some older ones may find it a little lack luster for a horror, but for me, I thought it was all nicely done.

The effects with the animation are superb, the 3D is quite good and the soundtrack is brilliant, it’s probably the first thing that stood out for me in the film, rather than the 3D.

Overall Thoughts For ParaNorman 3D

A great family film, in a horror genre for the young, but not too young, it’s funny and enjoyable to watch and has a great soundtrack. Go see this if you liked Coraline and similar movies.

I’m dying to see this film! Last week Le Husband chose the film of the week and it was the rather diabolical Sweeney so I am hoping to see Paranorman next week. Great review. I know that as a child I liked creepy and scary stuff so I think even though some kids might find it a bit scary, some will love it.
