Parental Guidance Blazing Minds Film Review

So here we go a film that makes you think of some other films such as Meet The Fockers, my question, while I was getting ready to review Parental Guidance was, will this be as funny or funnier than films that have done all this before.

Artie Decker (Billy Crystal) is an ageing baseball commentator who is fired, due to the team agent wanting to go more modern.

So now the retired Artie and his wife, Diane (Bette Midler), start his retirement with going to their daughters and looking after their grand children, but Arty thinks that the kids don’t like him and he doesn’t like them, but his wife tells him he has to go.

Parental Guidance Poster

Cue the comedy and one liners from Billy Crystal in only a fashion that he can do. So the family get together in a prototype house that their son-in-law has developed, which personally I think could have been used a lot more for comedic value.

Artie and his Diane, discover that they are the “other” grandparents and decide to make up for the years that they haven’t been involved with the grandchildren and want their pictures on the mantelpiece.

So the learning curve starts with them trying to do their best to show they are worthy grandparents and that they can look after the kids when their daughter and son-in-law leave the kids with them for week.

The sheer comedy in Parental Guidance is the way that the grandparents have to cope with the kids and how the kids have to cope with the grandparents.

Billy Crystal is funny as Artie, or Fartie as the kids like to call him, the typical granddad that just hasn’t got a clue about what his grand children want or need.

Bette Midler is great as the grandmother that is keeping everything together, or trying to, showing that she still has the comedic side of her when it comes to acting.

Overall Thoughts For parental Guidance

Some critics have panned the film, but for me Parental Guidance is a funny feel good movie that is great for both adults and kids, Billy Crystal and Bette Midler are great in their rolls. Go see Parental Guidance if you’d like a good giggle at a funny family movie.
