Just a quick post for you today, not much time I’m afraid! With everyone jumping on the band wagon of protecting the environment, I thought I would just ask a question for today’s post and start a discussion on what your point of view is.

So as you have already read the question in the post title, that’s what I’m asking:

Which do you think is the best way to go when it comes to using batteries for your devices at home, such a TV remotes etc. Rechargeable or Non-Rechargeable?

Which Is The Best Battery, Rechargeable or Non-Rechargeable?

It will be interesting to see how everyone reacts on this and never fear I will be back tomorrow with a longer post ;)

  1. I have and use about 12 Rechargeable Double AA Batteries in the house, but with so many kids toys I eat about 24 non-rechargeables a month as well. I would vote for rechargeable, but usually when your TV remote runs out of batteries, you don’t have any charged and don’t want to go an hour or four to wait for another charge.

I eventually would like to just have about 48 rechargeable AA, 24 rechargeable AAA but that costs a bit of up front to replace all your non-rechargeable with chargeable ones. They make good charges that can charge them in like an hour though.

I went ahead and bit the bullet and purchased all rechargeable batteries last year. Of course you will need to buy chargers too. It is worth the investment.

  4. I say no batteries, chargeable tend to work for a few months and then they go flat within minutes from charging. Normal batteries seem like a huge waste of resources so I say read a book in the sunlight and everyone’s happy :-)

Being Mr. Eco geek I of course have to vote for rechargeable batteries. :) I did a fun post last January about a new type of (NiZn) Nickel Zinc rechargeable battery that I tried out made by PowerGenix. They are supposed to be more powerful and easier to recycle than NiMH (Nickel Metal Hydride) rechargeable batteries. After doing the test for the review I put them in my camera (which sadly only got sporadic use) but they just ran out of juice in April. I was impressed – they are really making progress with recyclable battery technology these days.

Rechargeable, hands down favorite, that’s until the kids throw the batteries away. Yikes!

No contest. Rechargeable all the way as they are a lot more economical. They can be disposed off the same way laptop batteries are thereby posing less threat to the environment.

Rechargeable for me too. Just pick a good brand (my favorite is enelope), may be expensive at first but is well worth the investment. I hate throwing out non-rechargeable batteries.

  9. Got to be rechargeables for me too. After a couple of uses you’ve got your moneys worth out of them.
