How To Remove Possible Spammers From Your Twitter Followers
Posted by Karen in Twitter, Website ReviewsThere is time when you are following or are followed by that many people of [intlink id="109" type="category"]Twitter[/intlink] that sometimes you get bombarded with complete Spam, you know the stuff, sending you direct messages about joining 140 bands etc. So there comes a time when you need to sift out these possible spammers and block them from your Twitter Timeline.
One way of doing this is with a website called TwitChuck.

It’s easy to use TwitChuck, just log in with your Twitter account via Twitter Oauth and then your off, simply select SpamChuck and TwitChuck will give you the option of checking your Friends, Followers or Everyone. So just select which one you want and click on it.
SpamChuck will then display possible Twitter Spammers and display them for you, then it’s up to you if your block them all or de-select those that you would like to keep.
There is also an option to do a single search for a Twitter User, by simply entering the Twitter name, you then get a screen with some information on it, including a score for the Tweeter. As far as I can see the number changes colour as it’s get closer to been a spammer, so Blue is ok, but RED is possibly a spammer, so check them out before you block them
So there you go another Twitter Tool for you to organize you tweeters with, but as will all Twitter Tools use it wisely and do not abuse the system as this may cause twitter to think that you are being very naughty and suspend you..

Another great post on the Twitter subject Karen. I’m off to clean some spammers. BTW, this reminds me of a Twitter scam. There was that profile I was following after having searched for WordPress oriented profiles. However, the whole thing was throwing out forex and pills spam. Pity that this is starting out on Twitter now.

I have just tried the tool. I found that there are a lot of potential spammers in my followers list. However, i’m still doubt to block them or not. Anyway, thanks for your sharing!

So this is weird… you’re using a Gravatar plugin of some sort? It says “it seems that you don’t have an avatar on Gravatar…”
But I do have one. Which plug-in is this? I’ve been looking for something like this, but preferably something that works.
Here’s what I don’t understand. I did the query of all my “friends” in Twitchuck, and a follower shows up with a score of 36. In another window, I did a search for just that person, and the score is 75. Something seems quite amiss with their algorithm if I can get such widely varying scores depending on whether I am analyzing all of my followers or just performing an individual evaluation. I’ve tested this with several users, and the difference based on a group search and an individual evaluation is pretty substantial.
@alicam scores a 50 and should be blocked when I scan my followers, but gets 100 if I analyze just @alicam
@etlap1 scores 36 in the group eval and 75 on an individual evaluation.
@Ron_Wheeler gets a 36 for a follower, but a 76 on an individual evaluation.
Every one I test has a very wide spread. I find this a little bit disturbing.
PS – if you get a free moment and have nothing else to do, if you could edit “phogography” to “photography” in the name field, that would be great. *typo shame*

Hmmm very strange! I expect that it’s down to these programs not been an exact since, I think that’s why it’s always best to double check things
With regards to the Gravatar plugin, I’ll have to check it out, thanks for letting me know
*UPDATE* Just removed the previous Gravatar plugin and replaced it with one which displays a check box to get a Gravatar, I’ve tried it with several emails and it seems to work..

How about asking them if they are spammers or not?
) I am kidding of course
It’s a shame that there are so many spammers on Twitter and is good that we already have the tools to get rid of them.
