I think that for most people smartphones have replaced the “phone book” of decades past. When you are out and about and want to find a restaurant in an unfamiliar area, it is now the quickest way to find new places. Social media marketing is becoming important for most businesses, but I think with restaurants it is just vital now.

People are searching for different things on the internet and social media is a way in which you can make your business known and you have to start realizing that you can use any resource you have available.

You know what would be cool? If a restaurant serves a qr code with every meal. If you scan it you can see a video or pictures of how that specific dish is made.

I agree that restaurants should take advantage of all these social platforms.
Especially for foreigners. If you don’t speak the language, then many times you are not able to recognize what kind of restaurant you are walking by. If they are on fouresquare, and have several languages. Many tourists will find restaurants near them that they like but would’ve never realized were there.
And a QR code on the door would help as well.
