Many of you who follow me on Twitter () will of noticed that I ReTweet quite a few blog posts from time to time and you mat be wondering why I do this.

twitter logo small1 Why I ReTweet (RT) on TwitterWell putting it simply, not only does re-tweeting fellow twitters benefit you on twitter by increasing your presence, but it also shows your appreciation to the twitter who has taken the time to produce a well written blog post that you have found interesting enough to tweet people about.

These days the majority of blogs have a ReTweet button on the blog, so each time you visit a blog, show the author that you enjoyed the post that not only have you commented on the post, but you have also ReTweeted it for your readers to read and hopefully do the same.

Remember, if you are going to ReTweet blog posts at least take the time to read them, I have seen some twitter accounts where they have ReTweeted between blog posts in a matter of seconds, obviously not reading the posts and just hitting the RT button, read then posts! You may find out something interesting or useful.

Of course you can also annoy your followers by ReTweeting as an example my good friend @ExtremeJohn has a great following on Twitter of over 5,000. Using a tool such as “Should I Retweet?” give me the following results (click on the image for a bigger view).

ScreenHunter 01 Feb. 12 11.34 300x146 Why I ReTweet (RT) on TwitterSo as you can see and RT would be new to 3227 people but could annoy 170, which is a small amount, so that’s ok ;) So Retweeting a post from ExtremeJohn would give those results this is due to 5% of my followers also follow ExtremeJohn.

But my adage is, if you enjoy a blog post then you should comment when possible and always Retweet it on Twitter ;)

I think the tool you mention here is pretty cool, but I’m not sure that it would impact whether I RT or not.

(Off to tweet this post now… ;-) )

I often do retweet blogs especially when I find the articles interesting. Yeah, there are people who retweet blogs without reading them just for the link and hopefully be followed in twitter.

I think it’s those that actually read the articles before tweeting are the ones that really appreciate the time taken on writing a post on a blog ;)

    Karen,

Great post. I try and RT everything that I read that I find worth mentioning. Sometimes if they are really good I might try and RT during the off hours as well. I also try and comment on the blogs that I like or I find articles that I can contribute to.

Always a good idea to read before retweeting since the title may not truly reflect the tone of the post. I also like to add a few words before the RT as a bit of why my followers should check out the post, too. And I keep twitthat! handy on my bookmark bar for those few pages without a retweet button. :)

Yeah, retweeting is a great compliment to the writer of the post It means I’m happy with what I’ve read. Perhaps intrigued or highly entertained even. Retweeting extends the conversation from the confines of the blog to one’s followers, too.

You’re acting as some kind of filter for your followers, choosing posts you consider helpful, entertaining and relevant. Should we retweet every thing we come across? A great temptation indeed to be seen as generous, but in the end we might annoy some followers who expect only the best recommendation from us.

Very cool little tool there, thanks. :)

2 reasons to read before re-tweeting. Sure you may miss something good like you said, but the post could also suck, lol, too many crappy re-tweets and your followers will start reconsidering you. ;)

    Karen,

Many thanks for all of the retweets you have done for me in the past. I noticed that you are using a new retweet plugin. Any special reason for the switch? Just curious, don’t worry I’m getting ready to use it now.

Okay Karen, don’t put me on blast! (I don’t want my business on Front Street.)

And for those who don’t understand what I’m saying, let me put it this way – Karen, don’t expose me!

I’m am big on RTing before even going to the post and @ileane has told me many of times to make sure I read it first …. to make sure it’s even noteworthy. I must say I’ve never shared something by someone I don’t know without reading it first. If I RT without reading the post, the writer/host already have my trust and respect.

Lately, Ive been doing much better. Now I will at least go to the site, skim it, and then RT….mark it as a favorite to return. There are a lot of favorites stored in my account. ;-)

As mentioned many times before, because I’m not that big into blogging and all it’s tools, tweaks, and advantages; I don’t have anything useful to add to a post by commenting so I share it with my followers (who could probably benefit).

Going forward of at least for now, I will use the “Should I Retweet” gadget (whatever that is). Thanks, good thing I read this before RTing because I would have been the perfect example in a post I shared!
