Review: Infected Mushroom – The Legend of the Black Shawarma

It’s been two years since the mighty Infected Mushroom released an album and the wait has certainly been worth it, the latest album The Legend of the Black Shawarma is an truly awe inspiring album and certainly back on form for the Israeli psychedelic trance and electronic music duo.
It’s hard to think that this is the seventh studio album from these guys and they certainly aren’t showing a drop in their standards, The Legend of the Black Shawarma had me hooked right from the very first track.
Strangely the album is named after a shawarma, a middle eastern wrap or sandwich the equivalent of a doner kebab!, the title of the album was also inspired by Shawarma Hazan, a shawarma restaurant where Erez and Amit used to eat in their hometown in Haifa.
Infected Mushroom had originally intended for the album to be a concept album, the concept being a food diary of the group’s favourite restaurants. Thus came the first tracks written for the album, named after the restaurants Poquito Mas, Sa’eed, and most notably Shawarma Hazan. However, the group eventually decided to break off from this concept, with songs such as the lead single, Smashing the Opponent.
The album is hard paced, electronic and heart pounding hot! Right from the start through to the end of the album, you will take in every sound and instrument and when you get to track four “Smashing the Opponent” featuring vocals by Jonathan Davis, yes the front man of Korn, you sing along to the lyrics, just brilliant.
My recommendation is get you hands on this album even if you’ve never heard of Infected Mushroom you’ll love every minute, credit where credit is due, this is just an amazing album…

Cool music. I have not heard anything like it before I don’t think. Then again, a lot of the crap in the US is just respun shit. The remind me of electronica bands from the 80′s

Thanks for the review! I heard Smashing the Opponent on Sirius radio driving home last week. Really liked it but couldn’t recall the name of the artist.

Thanks for the post, good info. It’s hard to find useful information these days. Every blog or site you go to is just copy posting the same old content just to be ?blogging?. It’s refreshing to hear something different, no matter the topic. Anyways thank you.
