Those of you that read my blog frequently may remember when I posted “[intlink id="what-has-become-of-rhyl" type="post"]What Has Become of Rhyl?[/intlink]” and a picture I posted then of the so-called fountain that used to be in the car park underneath the children’s village.

I posted that picture back in 2008, seems so long ago now, but yesterday I went into the same area of Rhyl, something I don’t do very often if I can help it and though it did seem that the ramp and stairs going around the fountain had been made safer with some form of anti-slip surface, I am sad to say that nothing has improved with the fountain!

As you can see from the picture it looks awful and something that should really be sorted out, I personally think that the council should get their backsides in gear and sort this problem out, there is hardly any improvement over the last picture I took in 2008:

It seems such a shame that things like this make a place look worse than it actually is, the same can be said of the now burnt out Grange Hotel near the Rhyl Suncenter, this is somewhere that really should be demolished, not only for the look of it but also for the safety of children that may have the stupid idea of going inside it to play!

Don’t even get me started on the mass of blue boards down the other end of Rhyl where the FunFair used to be, something needs to be done with things like this, yes I know it all takes money to do things, but surely instead of wasting money on people walking around Rhyl with birds of prey trying to scare away the seagulls which in itself has now become a tourist attraction.

There is so much that could possibly be done to improve a lot of things in this seaside town, but sadly, they don’t seem to be improving anything at the moment! If these eyesores were improved on and side streets cleaned up more often, then maybe the tourists would visit the town more often and not get there and think “What a dump!”

Putting this post on Stumbleupon promptly – your pictures speak for themselves, and your commentary is excellent. Hopefully there can be some change due to your observations.

If you want to go a step further, there are tons of UK bloggers compiling lists of “top political blogs for the UK,” and many on that list are accessible and fun to talk to. They’d also be very motivated to help your post go viral, I suspect. The fountain and that collapsed roof are utterly disgraceful.

(I just googled top political blogs UK, and Iain Dale has a million lists, including one of political bloggers that Twitter)

Although I remember Rhyl being a bit dilapidated it looks like the town’s really gone to the dogs. A shame really, as it’s one of the most accessible seaside resorts for lots of families in the North West. I used to love Rhyl when I was a kid – my folks had a caravan at Presthaven Sands (Prestatyn) and we used to visit nearly every weekend. I haven’t been back in years, but only last week we were trying to think of somewhere to go to enjoy the (unusually) glorious weather, and it’s only be chance that we didn’t end up in Rhyl. It’s a shame, but this has really put me off taking my family. Hopefully something will be done soon to restore Rhyl to it’s former glory. Perhaps a call to Duncan Bannatyne is in order?!

I totally agree with what is being said about Rhyl. I visited yesterday with my children and close friends. I visited the Seaquarium at Rhyl, and would never in a million years recommend this place to anyone thinking of visiting it. First of all, for the cost of entry I personally think its disgusting for a family to be forking out money for something that isn’t really worth wlking around for the money. It costs £7.99 an adult(call it 8 quid), and 6.99 a child(call it 7 quid) a child, bonus is under 3′s go free, but really that is the only bonus. You are not allowed to touch any of the fish that are in open topped pools, whereas in blue planet in cheshire oaks you can. You have to pay £1 to feed terrapins and carp fish which is more money on top again. The information about all the fish is very sparce to be perfectly honest. The children get a discovery trail quiz to do as they go round which isn’t bad, but not really great at keeping youngsters between the ages of 18 months-3 years occupied. Then that just leaves the sealion show, well what can i say, the show didn’t start on time and kids were getting restless. The allocated seating was just a sham. What I mean by that is, the seating along the front row was allocated for parents with pushchairs and wheelchairs. When arriving for the show, majority of people that were sat on the front row were not in a wheelchair or had a pushchair. The pushchairs were having to go up the steps to other seating and were left in the middle of the aisles or shoved on to the row in front, this was causing a fire risk. Approached management and pointed this out to them, the response, for parents to leave their pushchairs at the bottom of the steps and walk up with their children to other seating. Personally if seating has been allocated to the disabled and parents with pushchairs, then the ones who are able bodied need to shift their backsides to the other seating.
Going back now to the state of Rhyl it seems such a shame that the only way they can try to make money is through the arcades where most parents cannot afford to entertain kids this way. Yes you have the sun centre for maybe a rainy day, and yet again the arcades, but nothing else really, oh yes the indoor market and indoor shopping centre, but there isn’t really much in Rhyl nowadays which many people now bypass to go elsewhere. Rhyl is not far but people are willing to go further for a day out. Well I think I have moaned enough now x

Rhyl is a bit of a disgrace, agreed. I don’t know what it is about british seaside towns – Morcambe is just as bad, with the old Frontierland and the so-intriguing 50′s hotel opposite, which apparently is being renovated but I haven’t seen any evidence so far!
