SciFi Weekender 2013 Part One: Early Bird Arrival

Making the most of only living around 50 miles away from Pwllheli, I finished work and headed on over to the SciFi Weekender, travelling in the mist and a few road works, it didn’t take me long to arrive at Hafan y mor.

Suffice to say Hafan y mor is massive and is an ideal place for the SciFi Weekender, I parked up and joined the queue with the other early birds for my wrist bands, schedules, media card (Access All Areas) and keys to the accommodation. The staff at reception were so helpful and bubble, a pleasure to communicate with.

I was really surprised by the accommodation, expecting a caravan on the site I was surprised with an upstairs apartment looking over Tremadog Bay. Also with the apartments you get parking right out side, no walking back over to a car park if you’ve forgotten something in the car.

The accommodation was really nice, living room with kitchen at rear, two bedrooms and bathroom, it was like a home from home. So I got unpacked and then settled down after the journey to wait for Lee to arrive a little later.

Sitting down together we organised who and what we wanted to cover, made notes and then popped around the corner to the “Mash and Barrel” to kick back with the other party going SciFi fans to get ready for an awesome weekend.

Suffice to say that the evening in the Mash & Barrel was a scream with everyone having one hell of a party to celebrate the arrival of the 2013 Sci-Fi Weekender in its new home, celebs, authors, cosplayers, traders, Sci-Fi fans and those covering the weekend all getting together for what turned out to be the greatest get together.

What a brilliant bunch they all were, fun to talk to the cosplayers and fans and learn what they love and believe me when I say that they certainly make the effort with their costumes, but a little more on those later in the next part.

Teams were made up and everyone enjoyed the contests and the night was just an amazing way to kick off the start the SciFi Weekender, people getting to know each other and certainly a brilliant way to make new friends.

So after a night of fun it was time to return to the apartment and get some sleep before the big one on Friday morning, the SciFi Weekender Opening Ceremony, but you’ll have to wait for part two for that one ;)
