You’ve probably seen them, hell, I even have them here on Blazing Minds, I’m talking about social network share buttons.

Nearly every blog you visit has them these days and though us bloggers do love to have them on our blogs for those kind enough to click on to share a bit of love and Stumble, ReTweet, Digg, Like ……….. and the list goes on.

As you will see, here on Blazing Minds I have the SexyBookmarks plugin at the bottom of the blog post where readers can share the post they are enjoying ;) on a selection of sites for others to find and also share and though there is a choice there to choose from I was wondering what sites people use the most and which ones are worth having which are not.

Using social media

So when you’ve finished reading this bloggy post, check out the buttons and use the ones you are listed with, then leave me a comment letting me know which ones you think you would remove, which ones you would like to see and why, then I can take a look to see what are more popular than others.

I have tried to add the popular ones that I use such as Twitter, BlogEngage, StumbleUpon, Digg, Ping.fm and so on, but I’d love my readers input ;)

  1. I generally will Retweet, Google Buzz, and post a Facebook like or share on any post i read that has those buttons and is of reasonably good quality. I will also vote for it on Blog Engage. But, I will only post to serious bookmarking sites if a post is really stellar. The kind of article that gets labeled as pillar content. Really well written content that offers real help, advice or info.

Then I will share the post on my favorite bookmarking sites. For me this is a very extensive list, but the primary ones are: Digg, Delicious, Stumble Upon, Mixx, Reddit and Yahoo Buzz.

I think it’s important to present readers with a wide variety of social sharing options, since everyone has their own personal favorites.

I’m rethinking the use of bells, whistles and badges: my blog was doing better WITHOUT them!

In the last two years or so, I’ve noticed digg has become less meaningful. Example: two years ago if I “dugg” your post here, you’d get a lot of hits and it would go viral. Now, I can digg people’s posts and nothing happens. They die like grass seeds on the sidewalk, and I’m doing NOTHING different.

I have noticed a wave of poorly-written posts purporting to be ‘great tips for bloggers’ and that ilk, written by rank amateurs without spell-checkers, which get linked to, reblogged and tweeted and retweeted like there is no tomorrow. Today there was a really great post on FUEL, and just two lame comments!

I used to retweet the blog post from others. It is the easiest way for me to share a nice article. Sometimes, i will share the link in Facebook too. :)

Probably you know that I am so active on Twitter, and I actually share all articles I read mostly on Twitter and vote on BE or Digg if I find an easy way!

I personally got rid of all the share buttons – no one was using them except the people who were diehard fans of particular sharing sites and had toolbars and bookmarklets anyway. Now of course, the issue was conflicts with wordpress and slow loading times.

I really should try getting share buttons back again: thanks for the reminder.

I generally try to help bring exposure to everyone else that I make a community with. However, many of the people that you stumble upon online fail to reciprocate. so, if an article or site really catches my eye, i will Stumble and digg.

I use the ShareThis knob on my Firefox browser and when using Chrome, i make use of the SU extension quite a bit.

Hey Karen, since you’re using the Blog Engage plugin, no need to have the button in your Sexy Bookmarks is there? You might want to add the FAQPAL button too. Many of your posts might do well there.

Hey Karen, I have adopting a less is more strategy lately. I am using the big 2 to promote; Twitter and Facebook and then Blog Engage. I would keep all those and then Stumble and Digg for those that use that. BTY, voted on BE and RT’d this :-)

It is a good idea to have all this buttons available because this way people are able to share the posts they like with others. From my point of view you don’t have to remove anything because more options are a good things, not in every situation, but in this one it is :D

It’s safe to say that you already know my answer to this based on the fact that I have been reading and sharing your blog posts for over a year now.

For the most part I share articles I find useful on Twitter and Facebook, iof I find something I really like (usually something funny) I will share it across all of my social networks with the tool Ping.fm offers.

I share blog posts I read mainly via Twitter as it’s the fastest. However I don’t share every time. It all depends on the speed of my internet connection and if I’ve
got loads of time to spend online.

I love seeing people use social buttons. It inspires me to join in and socially engage with you. Right now I’m going top retweet this article but to be very honest if it wasn’t for your tweet button I woudln’t even consider it. I think having them is extremely beneficial. Thanks for supporting the blog engage button Karen you have been for over a year now and I truly appreciate it.
