According to Dreamworks this Shrek movie is going to be the last in the series, whether or not this actually turns out to be true it remains to be seen as I am sure if they make enough money out of it, eventually another movie will be made. After all, this is what most companies tend to do if they are making money from a franchise right?

The Film

Overall I felt the film was the best Shrek movie since the original and for me I have to say that Rumpelstiltskin stole the show and he really was an fantastic character. His strange duck pet was a bit weird and the relationship they shared was certainly a strange one. His one liners were easily the best in the movie.

In terms of humour I am not really one to laugh at movies unless they are genuinely funny and whilst it doesn’t compare to the first movie I still feel there were a few great moments that made people in the audience laughed. As mentioned earlier it was Stiltskin that made me chuckle the most even though he didn’t seem to amuse anyone else in the audience. The main reason for this is because you know how Shrek, Fiona, Donkey and Puss work now and for me the lines coming from them were just so predictable.

In terms of storyline it wasn’t great and if any of you have seen The Santa Clause 3 I would advise that you perhaps go to this movie with the thought that it is exactly the same film but with different characters. I am almost certain the Santa Clause nicked the idea from somewhere else so if any of you can update me on this I would very much appreciate it!

There were a few references to other films in it like the witch melting from water (taken straight from the Wizard Of OZ of course) which made me think back and chuckle but I can’t help think this movie was based on ideas from other films and this is what really brought the tone down for me.

Overall, a great ending to the franchise (hopefully) and well worth taking the kids to if you have a chance. There are plenty of adult references to get so if you are a fan of the films and you do not have kids then I wouldn’t worry; there are still laughs to be had from it.

Overall a 3.5/5 from me because although it was entertaining, it still doesn’t beat the first movie and arguably there never should have been any sequels made in the first place!

Thanks for the review – it’s always worth knowing what’s “watchable,” just in case someone brings up “hey, we should watch this I haven’t seen it” and I’m not eager to go “NO YOU WATCH IT ALONE I’D RATHER STARE AT THIS WALL.”

Adding your review to Stumbleupon; thanks again!

    “Rather stare at this wall.”

No, no, no! ANY Shrek movie is better that that.

For me, the original Shrek was the best and always will be. It was different and refreshing. It introduced characters that were truly unique. Now, much as I love them, you can almost guess what the next line will be half the time.

Karen, I am a HUGE Shrek fan! Huge. And when I tell you I was disappointed in this film, it’s only because I’m too tired to think of another word to describe how let down I was. It reminded me of a boyfriend who was all talk in the beginning and no action when it mattered. I will take Shrek over anything but the trailer tricked me this time.

It was like the Seinfeld finale. I can’t think of another comparison or analogy but I didn’t like it.

Good night – or morning …

Obviously inspired by It’s a Wonderful Life, Shrek may not be able to match Frank Capra’s delicious pathos, but this is a fitting final chapter for the franchise.

Hmmm, based on reviews like this one, I think I might give it a miss. There are so many films to see that I’d rather remember this franchise as it used to be. I think the bit about The Santa Clause 3 turned me – the original Shrek was, well, original!!! I’m not too keen on copies and unoriginal films!

I was disappointed in the second film. I boycotted the third. This is, four, yes? Forget it. When my kids watched 3 at home, I was near by, and could hear enough to make me want to run for the bathroom.

Come, smile, laugh, and place your money in our hand. (I imagine this is the extent of the creative effort made by the producers.)

We went and saw it in 3D last weekend at one of the previews. The 3D was okay (I’ve only seen Avatar in 3D so have no idea how it compares to any of the other 3D releases) but the story was very average. The best moments and lines still end up going to Donkey and Puss in Boots. It’s time to retire Shrek once and for all and move on!

I was pretty disappointed by the last part of the franchise. :( Shrek didn’t impress me anymore. The only funny moments were created by the Donkey and Puss in Boots.
