First Stargate Universe Now Eureka Is Cancelled

A Town Called Eureka - Season 2 - Complete [DVD]You may remember sometime back when I posted about the TV show Stargate Universe being cancelled! Well the channel Syfy are not only happy with cancelling that show and Sanctuary, they have now also cancelled Eureka (also known as A Town Called Eureka).

Don’t Get Rid Of Our SciFi

It was announced back in August 2010 that the show had been selected for a fifth series and 13 episodes, but it has recently been announced (on August the 8th) that Eureka would not get a sixth series and would be cancelled after series five of the show. But an extra episode of  series five would be produced to give Eureka a “proper” ending.

Statement released from Syfy on the cancellation of Eureka

“After painstaking consideration, we have had to make the difficult business decision to not order a season six of Eureka. But Eureka is not over yet. There is a new holiday episode this December and 12 stellar episodes set to debut next year, marking its fifth season and six memorable years on Syfy. The 2012 episodes are some of the best we’ve seen, and will bring this great series to a satisfying end. We are very grateful to Bruce Miller and Jaime Paglia, their team of incredible writers, and an amazing cast and crew who have consistently delivered a series we continue to be very proud of. We thank the fans for their support of this show and know they will enjoy its final season in 2012.”

Now I’m not really sure what’s going on in the minds of those over at @Syfy but it certainly seems that the channel is slowing moving on to showing re-runs of old shows such as Buffy and even showing BAMMA! Why!

BAMMA! What The Hell Is Bamma, Is It SciFi?

Simple answer NO! It’s mixed martial arts (MMA) and what this has to do with SciFi is really beyond me! Surely a channel that was originally for SciFi should be for that genre, put the boxing, wrestling or whatever it is somewhere else!

Do we really care for this MMA rubbish here in the UK, personally I don’t think so, surely we watch the channel for SciFi rather than BAMMA!!!

Saving Eureka and Other SciFi Shows

If you read the Stargate article here on my blog you will have seen the links to several pages on Facebook that are in support of keeping our favourite shows and now a new page has recently been set, aptly called Save Eureka. While I’m typing this out the page already has nearly 7,000 likes in support of the show, my recommendation is get on over there and join the cause to keep the show alive.

Isn’t It Different In The UK Compared To The USA Syfy?

Well a little, but it seems that our American cousins are even worse off! While checking out the schedules for both UK and USA Syfy I noticed that where as we get repeats of Angel, Smallvile, Sanctuary (Series 1) , some SciFi or horror movies and the odd new series such as Warehouse 13.

The USA Syfy seems to be GhostHunters (all day) and loads of re-runs. Now I’m probably going to be told differently, but is this all you guys get on Syfy?

I thought we had it bad, you guys get a right raw deal!

Can We Trust Syfy To Keep Shows?

Quite frankly I would have to say no!

It seems to go the way of getting fans for a show that is Scifi based and then say, “Thanks for your time and your support for the show, now we are going to cancel it and take the money made and put it in to live MMA events and re-runs”

So why don’t you come and join me and the thousands of others on Facebook that are supporting our favourite shows and show those big wigs that we want them to stay, stop by Save Eureka, Save Stargate, Save Stargate Universe and SyFail!

I was a big fan of FIREFLY (later wrapped up as the movie SERENITY)… I always hate it when networks cancel shows (Loved Dark Angel as well!)

When NBC cancelled MERLIN that was the final straw! Luckily, I was able to watch Merlin direct on satellite from BBC Scotland.

I think the people who decide what we will see and hear are out of touch. Too much reliance on “ratings”

Karen, that’s just my 2 pennysworth!

I totally agree with you about the ratings, as long as the ratings are high and the big bosses are getting more money for their expensive lifestyles, then a show will stay, but the slightest slump and they panic about where the money is coming from for their next bottle of bolly ;)

They canceled Eureka? Now that’s just dumb.

Saw the last episode on Monday and thought this would be one of those shows that goes into 10-11 seasons.

First of all, it really is a shame that this tv-show was cancelled, but it was quite obvious that this had to happen sooner or later. The people responsible for the cancellation, all they care about is their own bank account and possible shareholders, they couldn’t care less for a fan of a tv-show no matter in what country.
These show are sold and shown all around the world. Here in Germany the show didn’t have high ratings i have to admit, but we have the same problem as in the US: too many tv channels, too many shows to choose between and therefore always low ratings. Well, we have not produced a single sci-fi show here in Germany, which is quite a shame.. such a big country (if you look at the size i mean) and no good shows at all… :-(
But there are ways to save one or the other good show: look for example at “Primeval”. It was cancelled due to high costs and too low ratings. They saved it (as far as i know) because they went to Ireland and produced and filmed it over there. There must be a similar way for the good american shows like Eureka, SGU, SGA etc. or also good shows from the UK like Paradox (yes, i liked it – it was cancelled very quickly but in my opinion the plot was quite good )…

I gotta admit its quite shocking the direction Syfy has gone to. Ever since their name change it seems to be going downhill if you ask me. I still scratch my head as to why they have wrestling on their channel. I mean sure it draws great ratings for their networks but at a high cost in my opinion as it alienates the original Syfy watchers and true target audience of the channel.

They canceled Sanctuary too?? Now this is getting ridiculous. They are cancelling all the shows and start airing reruns? Now it is a good time to stop watching Syfy and maybe they will realize that the viewers represent their income and without them the channel will be gone.

Okay NOW I’m really ticked off! What in the world are they thinking? I love that show! What’s next? Warehouse 13? Haven? Ghost Hunters? I see they already have some faked looking paranormal thing lined up for the time slot that GH typically takes. I barely watch TV but 2 sci fi (too bad I’m using what should be their real name again) on Monday, GH on Wednesday and Haven on Friday gets me through the week (and off the computer).

Time to throw away our TVs and just watch re-runs on Hulu… If wrestling is my only choice, who needs to be paying through the nose just to turn nothing on??

    Wow, I am flaming!

Yes, the reason ghost hunters and monster quest is so popular is because, to my dismay, most of us in the states are retards, even though if there ever was an actual lochness monster caught on tape it’d be huge news, we come back day after day watching reruns as though our eyes will somehow cause the giant water-dinosaur to magically appear in the already viewed footage, and for some god-aweful reason old people and rednecks love ghost hunters, the GHI team are like heroes to backwoods hillbilly rednecks and if they had to buy thirty seven televisions and direct dvr and cable to boost ratings per head, those cousin bumbin her-derps would probably do it, that being said whoever runs our monday through thursday day tele-line up needs to be shot.
