Now recently on the advice from ExtremeJohn on his post about StumbleUpon I decided to join, downloaded the handy FireFox plugin and set on my merry way of Stumbling on sites, blogs etc that I was visiting and enjoying!

Then lo and behold the other day I had an email informing me that my account had been suspended, banned from Stumbleupon, don’t ask me why, I’ve no idea, I was clicking the “Thumbs Up”  in the Toolbar of sites I like, not doing anything wrong there surely!

I even sent StumbleUpon a message via their feedback option, as mentioned in their email, but nothing, no response at all! So if this is the way that they treat users, then as far as I’m concerned then they do indeed suck big time, I have surfed today and found several bloggers that have had similar problems, my advice to anyone wanting to use StumbleUpon is DON’T, use BlogEngage instead, where you get a response when needed, not just ignored ;)

There you go, rant over!

How odd, I’ve been using SU for years and never had trouble apart from when the SU bar stopped working.

Oh man, that sucks. What is it with customer service and online accounts? You would think it would be easier to get a response. So sorry to hear your issues, I’ve had SU for awhile now and not run into anything yet..fingers crossed.

Yup I had great pleasure in removing my handy dandy Stumble Upon Toolbar, screw them. No reason as to why and of course the dirt bags don’t respond. I have a rant on the way as well.

  5. Very interesting. I just started using the Stumble Upon toolbar, it was my second time trying it out. The results weren’t that great, I don’t think I’ll have any problem with no longer using the service.

Some services are not meant to stay, especially those who do not understand customer service. I myself have tried a few sites that I found to be pretty good, but the ignorance of the people running the sites put me off so I stopped using them.

I know exactly how you’re feeling, i have to say i never had a problem with su but i did have exactly the same problem with adsense and my account was in the initial stage-it had only just been started and was waiting for approval-i appealed twice with an online set form and never even received an acknowledgment, and there is no other way to contact them, you are told you can only fill out the form!! so my sympathies. su is google right? so is adsense. we are just small fish in a big sea :)

I am not into toolbars of any service even Google’s since I prefer the clean browser. However I wonder why did they suspend the account?

That’s curious to know. I have been using both the toolbar (thumbs up) and su.pr and I have had no problems yet up to now. If this happens though and they do not give any response, than that definitely sucks. Nothing worst than having an answer and stay blind. I use BE too and I’m happy with it. Brian is doing a great job there to the extent that his site has already been cloned.

My site was just banned from Stumbleupon. I see new articles come through where random people are voting them up. Nothing. No hits, they just sit there. I made the error of submitting too many articles myself. I did this because I wanted to make sure to select the right category, rather than leaving that to other users. I also never read the terms of service which states you can’t promote your own site there.

Customer service did get back to me, though they were condescending and unpleasant. Basically I was reprimanded for not thoroughly reading the TOS. Who reads those? Nobody. They could have easily offered warning messages when they saw that I was submitting too many articles from the same site. They prefer to hide the detail in the TOS and then cut loose their irascible service reps on those that learn the hard way.

The whole point is they want me to sign up for their advertising program. It’s 5 cents a visitor to get back on their blessed program.

I used stumble about 2 years ago when my account was banned for flagging a site called momlogic for spam and then bringing attention to the help forums about it. Apparently spam IS allowed on stumbleupon depending on if you pay money for it or not. momlogic account had thousands of stumbles all coming from one domain, 3 or more added per hour….many avid stumblers took attention to my help question and I was the one banned. Admin of stumble obviously care more about money than following their own rules….and I did come back to stumble and realized it’s actually 50% spam….so I think stumble banned me because I was getting to close to the fact stumble is now a marketing tool rather than interesting or a portal to fun.

I’m not trying to spend to much time on here but plenty of users did have an issue with momlogic because her domain was somehow impossible to block. It’s not fair to block a domain and see it within the next 10 stumbles!
