Directed by: Andrew Stanton

Screenplay by: Andrew Stanton, Mark Andrews and Michael Chabon

Based on A Princess of Mars by Edgar Rice Burroughs

So you’ve probably all read the rather mixed reviews that John Carter has got lately and it constantly being compared to Avatar, but the real question on everyone lips is “Who do you listen to about John Carter?

As with all my reviews this is how I found the film and the use of the 3D etc, I’m not a professional film critic and I’m just a fan of going to my local @ApolloCinemas and giving out my point of view about a film, who better to review a film like John Carter than just another movie going fan of cinema ;)

John Carter 3D – Blazing Minds Film Review

So the film is an adaptation of the science fiction book by Tarzan creator Edgar Rice Burroughs and the story goes that John Carter is transported away from 19th century Virginia USA to the planet Barsoom or as we know it Mars!

So have you heard, the final Strictly Come Dancing will be broadcast live on the 17th in 3D on BBC HD and also in selected cinemas across the country and yes my local cinema @ApolloCinemas Rhyl is showing the live event and before you ask, yes I do have tickets to see the show.

Strictly Come Dancing Final To Be Shown in 3D!

The whole show is experimental, so it will be interesting to see if there will be any cock-ups  It will also be interesting to see how the live final works in 3D using some state of the art 3D cameras for the show.

Yes, you guessed I’ve been to the movies and a childhood favourite of mine has been brought to the big screen Tin Tin with his trusted companion Snowy the dog!

Tintin and Snowy, detail of a panel from the b...

Who Is Tin Tin?

For those who have no idea about Tin Tin, then let me give you a little bit of a rough guide, Tin Tin first appeared back in 1929 in a Belgian newspaper and was brought to life by Georges Rémi or as we know him Hergé.

So Tin Tin himself is a Belgian reporter that has a knack of solving crimes and capers with his dog Snowy, slightly drunk Captain Haddock and the quite comical Thomson and Thompson.

Bringing Tin Tin To The Big Screen

Now in the 21st century Stephen Spielberg and Peter Jackson have brought Tin Tin to life in the form of a 3D CGI Movie, but keeping with the original character designs and time from the book, we get an adventure film very much like Indiana Jones as Tin Tin (Jamie Bell), Snowy and Captain Haddock (Andy Serkis) set off on an adventure to find a lost treasure that once belonged to Captain Haddock’s ancestor.

Last night was another night for me to visit my local cinema, the Apollo Cinema in Rhyl, to check out the film Shark Night 3D.

Shark Night 3DShark Night 3D, Jaws For The 21st Century!

Now I have to say that for most, including myself, there is only one good shark movie and that has to be the all time classic “Jaws”, but I went in to see Shark Night 3D in the hope for a few jumps and a bit of gore!

So the film starts with a shark attack which really reminded of the attack in Jaws, an homage possibly ;)

Then we get to main cast for the movie the seven people that you know something nasty is going to happen to including Joel David More (Bones, Avatar) and Sara Paxton (Superhero Movie, The Last House on the Left). So we see them one by one getting attacked by sharks in a lakeside paradise, why are the sharks there? Well that’s gets answered later on in the movie, so I won’t spoil it for you ;)

Gore And Shocks!

A lot of blood, but really not that much gore, must be the 15 rating, as for the shocks, I have to say I didn’t jump once watching Shark Night 3D, so I was a little disappointed there, though there were some jumping at some points during the film.

Image via Wikipedia

OK so if you’ve read my tweets or facebook posts, you may have seen that on Monday I was little disappointed in not getting to see Captain America, but last night certainly made up for it!

So after missing out on opening night of the new revamped Apollo Cinema in Rhyl on Monday, I popped in to the Apollo yesterday and got my tickets for the movie for an evening showing and even better I became the Mayor on foursquare, so I got a free ticket ;)

Anywho! More about the Apollo Cinema later ;)

The Birth of Captain America

Without giving away an spoilers, well I hope not anyway ;) The film starts in present day with the search for Captain America (Chris Evans), we then shoot back to the 1940′s where we learn how a sickly Steve Rogers became “The First Avenger” after being constantly rejected by the military due to his health & size and his part in World War II and against the dreaded Johann Schmidt aka the Red Skull (Hugo Weaving) the head of HYDRA research department in Nazi Germany.

Yes it’s true, the James Cameron’s masterpiece that is Avatar is hitting our cinema screens yet again!

Avatar Special EditionThis time Avatar has been released as a Special Edition with eight minutes of extra footage and also some new creatures have been introduced to the movie and hits the big 3D screens on August 27th.

James Cameron is no stranger to the Special Edition genre, remember Aliens, The Abyss and Terminator 2. But those films were released with their Special Editions on DVD, this time we get the Special Edition in the cinema and yes, still in its 3D glory, actually it’s exclusively in 3D sorry 2D only cinemas, looks like you’ll have to miss out on this one.

The question on everyone’s lips though, is even if the film does have that extra 8 minutes of footage and we do get to see that little bit more of Pandora, is it worth the money to spend 170 minutes on some cinema seats to see the majority of a film that you have already seen?

For those that haven’t seen the original cut of the film yet in 3D the answer is probably, yes. To those that have already seen the film, maybe no, but to the fans of the movie, such as myself the answer is a 100%, yes!

I do like Avatar, my God, I’ve seen it that many times and all in 3D and the chance to see a little more of Pandora and perhaps the hope of opening up the characters a tad more with 8 minutes of extra footage, does intrigue me, plus the fact that my local cinema @ScalaPrestatyn will be showing the Special Edition just entices me more to see it again.

So if you have seen Avatar 3D already, will you go and see Avatar: Special Edition?

And just to whet your appetite a bit more I’m leaving you with the trailer for the Special Edition, it’s short, but enjoy ;)
