To the majority of us that are blogging, there comes a time when we need to get some tips on how we can improve our blogging skills and for me, I like to read Basic Blog Tips a blog created by @Ileane to help fellow bloggers.

The nice touch that Basic Blog Tips has is the posts are written by those that are in the know and the guest bloggers produce some interesting and informative posts that are not only enjoyable to read but are very useful.

I’ve read Basic Blog Tips for a while now and have even had the honour of posting on the blog myself. Finding information on subjects of your choice is easy with the option of searching the blog with a search box as well category lists on the menu for easy access.

Those of you who may have heard of @Ileane before will know her for her superb Videos on YouTube, again helping those bloggers out with useful video tips.

There are too many blogs around these days that are written by “blogging robots” that just blog to make money and are of hardly human at all, but Basic Blog Tips is a blog that will always be helpful to anyone reading it and for me this is another blog that I have in my RSS reader for all the latest articles, that will help me improve my blogging and hopefully if you subscribe to the blog as well you will find it as useful as I do.

So thanks to Ileane and all the bloggers over at Basic Blog Tips you are helping us all

If you are an avid reader of my blog you will have seen the post I have made with regards replying to comments made on Guest Posts that you may have written on someone else’s blog, now I’m going to mention subscribing to comments.

Now most of us who visit, read and comment on blogs, may have seen tick boxes that say something like “email me with replies to my post” or “subscribe to comments”.

I’ve been asked several times by friends, “Should I subscribe to the comments?”

If you are interested in the blog post and would like to know when a comment has been replied to or even if more comments have been made on the post, then I would say yes. Not only does this give you the benefit of reading the updates, but, it is ideal for finding out if anyone has replied to the comment you have made, giving you the opportunity to reply to said comment.

As an example one of my comments on the DragonBlogger blog received a reply recently and as I was subscribed to the comments, I was informed via email, this gave me the chance to reply to the comment and as the blog uses the superb CommentLuv plugin, I was also able to promote the latest post from Blazing Minds.

So, as you can see, it does pay to subscribe to interesting blog post, obviously you don’t have to subscribe to every single post you comment on, but, as I said earlier, if you do find the post of some interest than subscribing to the comments is an ideal opportunity to get some more commenting done, it also shoes other readers and commentators that you have some interest in the subject and you never know they may just stop by your blog as well

I was happily tweeting away the other day when a tweet came in from @jsinkeywest about the BloggerLuv community, now I’m not one for whoring myself out to these communities and social networks, I am really, so I had to stop by.

Now I like to think that I am a supporter of fellow bloggers and I do try now and again to give a bit of advice and linky love to fellow bloggers, and the BloggerLuv community is one such place that in my humble, if not deranged, opinion is a site that all bloggers should become part of. I’ve not been a member long and I’m only just getting used to what can be done, but it’s one hell of a site!

Not only is there a selection of blog posts posted from a great collection of blogs across the net, but you can upload videos, pictures, get involved in discussions with other like-minded bloggers, it’s sort of like BlogCatalog, but miles better

What does this mean to fellow bloggers, well, it’s going to a place that is run by some like-minded bloggers and is going to be the future, a bit like garlic bread and to those that haven’t a clue what I’m on about and I know there are a few of you out there, take a look for yourselves by visiting BloggerLuv. It’s going to be the hub of the blogging world, the bees knees, the icing on the cake, the be all and end all ….. Ok John have I sold it enough yet, I’m running out of compliments, oh hang on one more ….. It’s WICKED

So though I don’t really want to you stop and go straight away to BloggerLuv I need your love and comments here …. Ok I’ll make the links open in new windows/tabs … So you can pop back and let us all know what you think of the site … Ok I’ll stop now but before I go a tip for everyone …. “Never cross the road until you see the little green man”

…… Damn I’ve drank too much caffeine today

We all know some of the common tips and tactics for encouraging readers who visit your blog to leave a comment or interact in some way. These range from ending your post with a question, to hosting contests that require comments to enter or even implementing a poll in your blog just to have people produce some feedback and participate.

In an age where you are competing with millions of other online content providers you need to have your site stand out in your readers minds, no longer is it enough to just provide quality content, but you must find a way to engage your reader and get them to participate in something. By encouraging and prompting the reader to respond they are more likely to remember your site and come back since instead of just reading an article they actively responded.

It is then the bloggers responsibility not to “overdo” it, don’t spam the user with emails for commenting, or deluge them with thank you’s or requests to come back soon. Some sites implement points or entries for each participation that a user can collect and when they reach a certain number, the user gains some sort of benefit like a free advertising slot, or a free coupon for something.

As a blogger it is imperitive that you search the web and read other blogs, learn about how other bloggers are encouraging their readers to “engage” with the blog, find out what you like and implement something similar. Leave feedback for other bloggers if you think they have done something really unique or interesting, they will appreciate it and you will may also build a contact and a friendship by engaging someone else.
