Those of you who have read my humble blog lately will have noticed that I have been doing a [intlink id="727" type="category"]Photo A Day[/intlink] and one of the photographs was of the Tassimo drinks machine (TAS 40xx) that I had for Christmas.

So I thought it was about time that I gave you all my opinion on this sexy looking home coffee maker, which not only makes coffee drinks but also makes hot chocolate and tea!

The Bosch Tassimo is so easy to use that a child could use it, with parent supervision, it’s just a simple case of placing the special T-Disc into the machine and pressing a button, yes it’s really that easy, then you just wait for your coffee or whatever to be prepared for you.

The TAS 40xx, which is the new model of the Tassimo, is a lot more slim line than the earlier model and speaking from experience of the earlier model it is a lot quieter and it seems quicker, the drinks are hot and are quite tasty.

As mentioned earlier the Tassimo makes it’s drinks via a special cartridges called T-Discs these are small plastic cases that hold the correct amount of [intlink id="true-story-coffee" type="post"]coffee[/intlink], creamer, hot chocolate, tea etc and are inserted in the top of the machine where a laser reads the bar code on the T-Disc and then the Tassimo creates the drink, this helps you maintain the same taste every time you brew a drink.

Please bear in mind that when you buy your Tassimo you will not get any T-Discs you will have to buy these separately, you will get a voucher when you register your machine online, I’m currently still waiting for mine to arrive and it’s been well over a month, so I’m not holding my breath on that one!

Now on to the cost of running the Tassimo, I can quite honestly say that the drinks that are made by the TAS 40xx are lovely, the cappuccino is quite strong to taste, but it’s very nice, the problem being that the T-Discs do work out a little more expensive than buying your normal jar of coffee, but the T-Disc drinks are nice, Oh! I’ve mentioned that already.

Also you have to watch what you buy, if you buy the normal coffee in T-Disc format you will get sixteen drinks, the cappuccino will only be eight cups, this is due to the packages containing eight creamer T-Discs and eight coffee T-Discs. You will probably be paying around £3.28 for a pack that works out at 20p a cup for the coffee and 41p a cup for the cappuccino, cheaper than drinking out in a café, but dearer than your normal coffee jar per cup.

I don’t really regret having my Tassimo, I love the coffee and other drinks that it produces and it’s ideal if only one person is having a drink as it’s so quick and energy-efficient, you’re only heating the water you need, ok, so the cot of the T-Discs may sound a lot and it probably is, but I use my machine for those special drinks that would need a little more effort to make, I like my cappuccino and this does make a nice one, specially with a little Baileys added.

At the end of the day if you want a no mess, easy to use drinks machine then these are certainly worth thinking about. So what’s my overall rating of the new Tassimo, I would have to give it 8/10, it would be nine, but only for the cost of the T-Discs.
