So I just logged into my Twitter account and found a message at the top of my home page about Orange, my mobile network! It seems to have taken forever for Orange to get sorted on Twitter and this is of interest to me and probably other Orange phone users.

Orange SMS, MMS on TwitterSo I clicked the “Read more” to find out exactly what they have started!

So not only can us Orange phone users send the standard SMS via 86444 to Twitter, but now we can also send pictures via MMS, which is great news, although I do use TwitPic to send my pictures to Twitter, it has opened up another avenue of choice to use when sending tweets or pics to Twitter.

Along with this Orange has started a service called Snapshot which is where your tweeted photos are added to a long list of photos from other users, you also get your own page on Snapshot, much like TwitPic where you can show your photos.

Now to pricing!

It is mentioned in the blog post on the Twitter Blog that Twitter will not charge for this service.

Twitter does not charge for this service. It’s just like sending and receiving messages with your friends — your carrier’s standard messaging rates apply.

But I will be trying out the system with my “Dolphin” package on Orange to see if it uses my 300 free texts instead of charging me instead. I’ll place an update on this post when I have tested this theory out ;)

*UPDATE -  19 November*

So I’ve just topped up my orange phone with £10 of credit and been on the Dolphin tariff I get 300 free texts for a month, just tweeted with my phone and good news! It didn’t cost me anything, it used one of my 300 free texts leaving with 299 free texts, brilliant ;)
