McDonald's French fries Potato (01)

McDonalds is reacting to increasing pressure from its more health savvy customers and is reducing the weight of fries it serves and introducing seasonal fruit and vegetables into the mix.

Happy Meals, which, thanks to the toys that its sponsors provide, are a must have for many kids all over the world, are going to come under the change from September, in some states at least. After the initial trial the changes will be rolled out to the rest of the country’s 14,000 restaurants in the US. This won’t be the first time McDonalds has changed the make up of the Happy Meal, in the past they removed the fries completely which obviously went down like a dry lunch so the fries were put back on the menu. Jan Fields, McDonald’s US president observed: “People come to McDonald’s and, first of all, they want the choice and the control to be theirs, but their expectation of a Happy Meal does include a fry. When we did it without fries, there was a huge disappointment factor.”

The new meal will contain about half of the number of fries that the current Happy Meal contains, down from approximately 70 grams of potato to 30 grams, this edible shortfall will be made up with fruit or vegetables such as apple slices, carrot sticks, pineapple or raisins. What exactly depends on the region and the time of year. Despite the variations McDonalds say that the changes will reduce the amount of calories by about 20%.

Ok those that read my blog will notice that sometimes I do a Monday Moan, well this week it’s early I just couldn’t stop myself from typing this one out!

Sometime back I posted about a seed bar called the 9Bar, one of the tastiest things I’ve ever tried and since that post I have, without fail, been buying these bars at my Local Morrisons, but recently they have not been having them, so today I found someone to ask about the bars and why they weren’t having them anymore.

Today I received a package in the post with some very tasty snacks from Wholebake to taste thanks to those fantastic loving people over at FuelMyBlog.

They are called 9 Bar Original and are from Wholebake a company that has been around for 20 years and is based in Corwen, North Wales, which is not that far from where I live.

There are three bars in a pack and believe me when I say they are absolutely delicious, they are ‘seed’ bars which are a really healthy thing these days for you to eat.

The bars are topped with Carob, which looks like chocolate on the bar, they consist of many different seeds which include: Sunflower seeds, Pumpkin seeds, Carob topping, Honey, Raw cane sugar, All vegetable margarine, Dehulled hemp seeds (3%), Sesame seeds, Poppy seeds.

They are slightly chewey, but they do not stick to the roof of your mouth like some other bars I could mention and they taste lovely, I would describe it as a slight nutty taste with a sweet after taste, the bars are ideal for vegetarians and are gluten, dairy and wheat free.

One bar is plenty as they may be small, but, they are very filling, I would personally recommend these bars to everyone, stop eating those packets of crisps or given your kids sweets with god only knows what preservatives and colours in, go out and get your hands on some of these bars instead, they are much better for you.

You can get the bars in several varieties of 9-bar, Original, Nutty, Flax & Pumpkin and the Original 9-bar is available in Waitrose, Asda, Tesco, Morrison’s and Holland and Barrett as well as over 1,000 independent helth food shops across the UK.
