Those of you following me on Twitter, @BlazingMinds and on this blog will know how much I love the film Avatar and the other day I had chance to see it in 3D yet again.
But this time I went to see it with @quiffylaa31 in the Scala Cinema in Prestatyn and this time it wasn’t with the usual Real 3D glasses, this time it was with the Active 3D system!
I was quite surprised how much of a difference the Active 3D is to the Real 3D system the picture quality is crystal clear and the 3D is slightly better than the Real 3D and I did notice several parts of the film where the 3D was just brilliant, the only thing that I do have quibble about is the weight of the glasses, because they are “powered” they are quite heavy and after about an hour you do feel their weight on the bridge of your nose, but, a small price to pay for such great quality.
As for the Scala itself, well, this is the first time I’ve been for years and the revamped cinema is great, friendly staff, very clean and a nice family atmosphere. I have to admit that I have been a die-hard Cineworld visitor for many years, but, this could now be my local cinema, specially for the 3D.
Though the seats are a bit cramped, I’m 5ft 8 and my knees were a bit bunched up from the seats in front, but, if there is no one in front of you the back of the seats push forward, so problem resolved
As I mentioned earlier the screen is very clear and crisp even the standard 2D before the 3D feature, just goes to prove how awesome a full digital cinema can be
The surround sound was also nicely set up with a great wide aspect from the speakers, giving Avatar a good sense of depth, even the action sequences were pounding out some bass for the explosions, but at the same time been able to cope with those intricate sounds that you normally might not pick up on.
So overall a truly enjoyable night, on my next visit I will be checking out the gallery and Saronies Cafe Bistro Bar where they do a Movie and meal deal for only £10
Check out the Scala website and visit them @ScalaPrestatyn (Twitter), Facebook and YouTube.
