As we all know, Google is the powerhouse when it comes to the world of search engines. Despite the growth of Bing in the past few years, Google is still the dominant force, and the latest algorithm update released recently caused quite a stir in the SEO world. The ‘Panda’ update was meant to downgrade the power of low quality spammy sites and content farms stealing others’ content, however it ended up affecting millions of sites in both good and bad ways. Generally it has helped a lot in improving the quality of search results returned by Google, but it means that there is now a new focus for the SEO world. This update and the subsequent tweaks (upto Panda v2.4) was one of the widest reaching updates, affecting over 10% of global search queries. Here is a quick reference guide to some of the do’s and don’t of SEO since Panda was rolled out worldwide:

- Simple things
The Panda update brought about a bigger emphasis on on page elements, but some simple ones. Make sure spelling and grammar are all correct, adverts are not intrusive (better yet not there!) and your code is nice and clean (use the W3C validator to check). These are all things that should already be there on a well designed site, but are sadly lacking in many…

- Engagement
The main point of the Panda update is that it would cut out low quality sites and spammy content. It therefore follows that high quality content will be engaging, and the website metrics will reflect this. Time on site, bounce rate and pages per visit are now all ranking factors, so as always ‘content is king’.

- Quality
As mentioned above, quality content is now the key. Information that will be well read, commented upon and shared via social media platforms is now more valuable than ever. This is what, in part, has contributed to the rise of infographics as a form of SEO, as they are vibrant and nice to look at, attract engagement of consumers and promote sharing around.
Infographics are by no means the only way of doing this, but ensure that whatever you write, you do so in detail and with knowledge. Article spinning and marketing sites which churn out rubbish content now have very little to no value whatsoever.

- Social
This is a metric that has been counted since before the Panda update, but has recently become even more valuable. Links and ‘shares’ from social media platforms are now a major ranking factor, but as with normal links it depends on the amount, variety, source and most of all power (or authority) of the account. One share from Lady Gaga’s Twitter account with her millions of followers will be far more valuable than 100 from no-power accounts.

Finally, in early November another update was rolled out giving greater power to fresh content. As with social signals, this has been a recognised ranking factor for a year or more, but this wide ranging update gives it even more power. Adding a blog to your site is a great way of getting more indexable content on your site, but now you need to make sure it is updated as often as possible. In my opinion, one post per day is now a minimum, and 3 or 4 would not be excessive at all.

All in all, good SEO companies shouldn’t be scared by the Panda update. If you conduct an ethical SEO campaign you should have been doing much of this all along, and if not, to be honest, you might well have deserved demotion….

The Anchor text linking to your targeted page tells the search engines what the page is about. If the links are pointing to the targeted page using a particular keyword then the page must be a relevant source of information with reference to the anchor text.

But having hundreds of links linking to the page using the same anchor text is not a great idea. It worked very well in the past but now it is a good strategy to vary the anchor text so that the links look natural. A link profile consisting entirely of the exact match links doesn’t look natural and is easy for Google in the future to degrade the value of a huge proportion of your link profile in one fell swoop. With the Google Panda update a partial match is much better than an exact match for the anchor text.

So what is partial match?

If your keyword phrase was Mac balloons then some partial anchor text that you could use would be: Mac has the biggest balloons; Balloons for parties; I love balloons etc. So if you are building 100 links for the keyword then use some exact match anchor text and a lot of partial match. This way you will have bigger broad tail and long tail queries that you can rank for. You should get the more traffic. The most important – the ranking will not fluctuate or dip easily as these links will have longer long-term value, and it is just going to deliver you a better and natural looking link profile.

How do you Vary Anchor Text?

Some of the combinations that can be used when you want to vary the anchor text:

“keyword”

buy “keyword”

“keyword” buy

buy “keyword” online

“keyword 1” “keyword 2”

for more information on “keyword” visit: URL

“keyword”: URL

image link alt=”keyword”

Here are some thoughts on how you can optimize the anchor text. Once you have the keywords you are going to start inserting those keywords in your post head titles as many webmasters will link using the post main title as their anchor text.

Since the anchor text is used to tell the search engines what the page is about, that along with anchor text you need to keep page optimization in mind. Make sure you use the keyword in the title tag, the H1 headers, information on the page and the alt text in the images.

Putting your website at the top of Google’s results is the Holy Grail for anyone in internet marketing and search engine optimisation. Of course it depends on the quality of your content on the website you’re trying to optimise, your link building activities, reviews, social media presence and all the things we know we have to do to create a White Hat campaign which doesn’t get penalised by Panda Farmers or have a bad reaction to Caffeine.

But of course there is a way of guaranteeing you get to the top of Google’s results pages which requires little more than intelligence, wit, an idea for a story and a video camera or phone.

People forget that Google will put videos which match your search terms at the top of the SERPs as they’re usually rather blinkered by the notion that you need content and lots of back links to really be doing SEO. While that’s true enough, if you can produce a good video to go onto your site which brings richness and authority you’ll find that you’re getting more traffic than you ever had before.

And it doesn’t matter if your website’s core area of business doesn’t lend itself well to video. Indeed, the less suited to video the better, the paradox here is that if no-one else is making film based upon your core activities then the more findable you’re going to be. However, knocking together a five minute piece which looks like a bad seventies cinema commercial isn’t going to make you any friends! If, on the other hand you manage to produce some well thought out, informative and useful video content for your site, something that’s valuable and shareable the value will be far more than the cost of production. And given that high quality film is now available on most mobile phones which is then immediately uploadable as well as many easy to learn editing suites, producing and hosting video cost next to nothing but time, planning and a few great ideas.

Click On The Picture For Some Seventies Style

There are a few details that it’s important to remember when making your video, no matter how much you’re going to pay to produce it. If you can cover one or more of these key points in your video the better chance it has of becoming shareable and interesting. The point isn’t to try and deliberately create linkbait at this stage but the more popular your content is the more valuable it will be.

If you’re on a budget you clearly won’t be able to afford locations and effects, without this it’s still possible to make informative content. SEOmoz produce a Whiteboard Friday where Rand Fishkin simply stands in front of the eponymous whiteboard and presents to camera. Few ideas are so simple or effective.

If your site doesn’t lend itself to such a presentation then there are other things it’s important your video contains.

Be Funny. If your subject is very dry people won’t want to watch to the end or ever share the content. Of course humour is subjective so what you find hilarious might induce embarrassed squirming from some viewers but if you can squeeze a few gags into an informative advertorial style film clip then at least you’ll be hitting those that ‘get’ the gag.

Try being sexy. I don’t mean gratuitously overt or indeed sexist but people like to watch people. If those people happen to be attractive then so much the better. The sexy/sexist balance is a tricky judgment call: again it’s subjective and go too far and you’ll offend rather than entertain.

If you don’t think your funny or sexy then try being shocking! I don’t mean rude, dangerous or politically incorrect but a video with a surprise at the end will always keep people interested.

If you’re going to try to be entertaining, show what a fun company you are, express your personalities and people will feel the know you, rather than just regarding you as another website or commercial concern. You can either demonstrate a project that can be carried out in the home or office.

If you do want your video to go viral then the easiest and quickest way to do that is to make something cute and lovable. Get a kitten or a puppy, make it do something adorable and put it on your site. Few things are simpler!

Click The Pic

You might not have the full compliment of a Philippine prison to dance to pop songs for you but making something amazing, creative and fun will drive people to your site, the more people that see it the more conversions you’re going to make, particularly if your amazing content is related in some way, no matter how tenuous to your site and your core activities.

Today, the easiest way to start your own business is to develop a website through which you can sell your product or service. It’s becoming less and less necessary to have a high street presence and far more important to have a website through which you can conduct ecommerce. Since the internet has everything you can imagine, and many many things that you couldn’t, and every kind of retailer, from multinational conglomerates to artisanal individuals making their goods in their living room vying for your attention you need to join them. But how do you go about it?

Do you want something tailored or off the peg?

Today many SMEs run on WordPress, it’s a very easy to use CMS which is free at entry level yet can be paid for so that you can have your own .com. It, and its competitors are both extremely powerful and flexible as well as having cost benefits which beat bespoke websites. Going with a bespoke website might be necessary if you have very specific needs but the costs are high and can put you in the position of having to rely solely on your developer for any changes that you might need to make in the future. If you do need to go with a specialist developer make sure they use a well recognised software package so that if you need additional work done and your original developer isn’t available you won’t have to seek out the only other person in a 500 mile radius who knows how to program it.

Add richness to your store.

If you can add features and benefits to your website you’ll attract more visitors, making your site sticky and easy to navigate and you’ll see those visitors becoming conversions. Your product might be a great stand alone but giving people an added incentive to visit your site will tempt people away from your competitors if they can’t offer the same.

Put some life in your site.

Google likes sites that have been around for some time but you don’t want a site the looks old. Refreshing your on-site copy regularly gives Google the impression of activity and quality. Department stores change their copy on a daily basis as their product offers and descriptions change, If you can change your onsite copy a couple of times a week, with industry news, product descriptions, a blog or even a feed of your work related twitter.

Links and likes.

Once you have a site it’s important to implement some basic SEO. If you don’t promote your site then it doesn’t matter how good your product is, if you don’t shout about it you’ll find yourself languishing around page 25 of Google’s results pages. Just Google ‘SEO tips’ and the best ones will, by nature of their being the best SEO, be at the top of your results. Applying just a few of these methods will see you racing up the SERPs. You should also put your details on every directory you can find that has anything at all to do with your field of endeavour, not only does this make you findable in the directories, it’s very good for your SEO if all the information that’s available on you is as up to date as possible.

Use the best tools.

Getting to know how to use packages like Google’s Webmaster Tools, rank checker and Google Analytics will help you in your promotional activities too. You might not want to become an authority on promoting websites when your business lies in making handmade jewelry but that would be like having a shop and not taking care of your window display. You have to make your website attractive not only to your human viewers but to Google’s spiders and robots too.

Get recommended.

Putting up testimonials and reviews from your customers is a really good way to give your site value. People buy from people so making giving your site a big dollop of The Human Touch.

Dan Cash has become a recluse since discovering you can buy EVERYTHING over the internet there are takeaways in Cardiff that take orders by email and pizza delivery in Southampton who will build your pizza to your exact requirements any time of the day or night.

Is this playing on anyone else’s mind at the moment? Personally I haven’t seen much of a drop on many of the sites that I have or currently work on. Could it be because my link building abilities are out of this world? I doubt it, although I always tried to do the right thing, and I don’t think that I have built links from link farms or what not.

Now the main reason I am posting this is not to discuss the link farms, because I believe that Google are in essence doing the right thing by cracking down on this sort of [Enter Profanity].

I am curious why people are talking about spinning tools and their distributaries? Sorry but since when did spinning become link farming?

The main reason has received such a bad slat of press and belief from so many people is simply because they have been used and abused before, however many spinning agencies are taking extra precautions to try and stop spammers from upsetting what their tools are supposed to be used for.

A friend of mine that runs one of these unique article distribution websites has explained his reasons for changes they have made. Full info click here!

Spinning an article is an effective way of distributing unique content on the same topic to a multitude of websites, and as long as it is used properly it will work. Article spinning shouldn’t be made out to be the demon that it has been. Although it can be spammed, it is a good way of distributing useful information, as long as it is good quality.

Try not to dismiss options in SEO that do still work if they are used properly and not spammed. These are ways that could help you to progress your website, however if you take what is said about updates at a slanted angle you could miss out on some good tools!

Best things in our life are free of cost. Same is the case with this strong marketing tool of blogging. You can do more than just post and read, when it comes to blogging. Content is the focus of all articles that makes first time or regular visitors coming back for more.

You can write about the latest and the most interesting topics, but if it is not placed in the right place at the right time, nobody would come to know about it, except perhaps your close friends. You have to write for the masses and bring it on the front screen for them to read it and like it. From writer’s point of view:

Good content and presentation – The material that you post has to be interesting. Right from the title to the conclusion you have to keep your reader engrossed and then work to have them coming back to your blog.

Readability – Language is the key to make an article likeable. Simple sentences with fewer complications can bring in readers of all age group and sections.

Interactive – You can write a blog as if it were a long essay or make it sound more casual. the reader should be able to relate to the article. Blogs that encourage discussions and answer questions as well as add new dimensions to the discussed topic become popular.

Audio visuals – This is the new decade and era of technology. Using images and videos to make your post more interesting can add weight to the blog.

Frequent posting – You can be going through a writer’s block, but your loyal readers will expectantly come to your blog for more article. Try to come up with some ideas to continue the interest and provide your loyal readers their well deserved dose of your blog regularly.

From marketer’s point of view:

Promote – Do not forget to promote your blogs by communicating with other bloggers sharing similar interests. Comments and offline promotions do make a difference in the way readers perceive you and change traffic level on your blog.

Viral plug-ins and widgets – You should use all the possible strategies to bring in multiple readers and popularize your site.

Contests and freebies – You need subscribers and widening your reader base is the motto of marketing. Regular competitions on your blog with attractive prizes and freebies can work for popularizing your site.

Social networking – It is the new way of promoting your blogs the easy way. Create profiles and let your readers know more about your products and blogs.

From SEO point of view:

Optimization – The blog with right keywords and Meta titles, description and links bring traffic from the crawlers as well.

Email signature – Use of emails to promote blog is the key to high organic traffic.

Directory submission – Link submission to directories can change popularity of your blog.

There are ways to get to the heights of being read, liked and tweeted about. Blog marketing in the apt way can change your reputation online.

First and foremost this is an article off the back of one posted on Fresh Egg, and I decided that I would put my direct spin on it. I did actually contribute an idea to the Fresh Egg post, but I do have a few other views on the matter.

Firstly Bing has only really started to make a presence in the US. I refuse to believe that anyone in the UK or elsewhere in Europe is finding that the receive 10% of their Organic Traffic from Bing. In fact I believe that it would be closer to 2 or 3%, which isn’t exactly ground shattering. I think it is difficult for us to make a judgement at this moment on whether or not Bing is going to fly into the Market.

The Quote that I made was “Bing isn’t going to succeed in this market unless Google fails”. It sounds a little pedantic I know, and I actually believe that sometime in the future Bing will begin to gain a slice of the search engine market share.

Anyway I am getting ahead of myself, and I think it is important for us to understand why this is becoming a hot topic particularly around the SEO world. It might not have quite such a representation among the general public, and I think that this is where some SEO’s are getting a little “lost in their own world” feel free to quote me on that.

An excerpt from the Fresh Egg post in my own words:

“Google is a household name, nobody says “type it into the Search Engine” everyone suggests Google”. Bing is a relatively unknown entity, and Google has become the search engine of the world. It is safe to say that other entities have made their way above Google in other countries, Baidu being one of them, but in the UK and US Google is king and will be for some time to come.

I think that the market needs a new contender like Bing to become bigger and take a larger share in the industry, it would be good for both companies if this happened. However this isn’t going to happen for a long time, this I can almost certainly guarantee.

The only way that this process will be sped up is buy Google screwing things up further than they already have (which is another post entirely). If they introduce more paid avenues into the searches and neglect the Organic results further, they could find themselves in a world of hurt sooner than they think… Alta Vista ring any bells?

Sorry Bing, you are also represented by a company that doesn’t exactly have the greatest history with, ummmm… all of their products.

Well, Google Instant. Some of you may have noticed, some maybe not. If you don’t know what I am talking about, then sign into your Google account and then go into the Google Search engine. You will provided with a much larger search box than normal. Within this box you type in your query as per normal, with one massive difference. As you begin typing in your search, results will begin appearing straight away, even from the first letter.

Now I have a few qualms with this new search based system. First of all lets look at why it has annoyed from the Google perspective:

Powerful brands that rank for the first letters of their names, even though someone may be searching for something completely different, will come up in the SERPS all the time.

Impressions are going to go through the roof for some terms, messing up results in Google Web Master Tools. This will effect Click Through rates, and give some inaccurate results!

PPC results appear to be growing, searching in the US for “Mortgage Rates” under the Instant search returns “4” top PPC results, and only 3 Organic ones…

Google are ignoring other problems at hand. It is all very well going back to the original point of search and attempting to make searching easier. However do users really have trouble typing in these words, or is Google using this as a cover up for previous issues.

Is this Google’s way of making a rather odd statement against yahoo and Bing?

My next point on users relies solely on the point on whether or not people actually have issues with searching Google.

Come on now, you as users do you have any problems typing in your query, even if it is 3-4 words long?

Is it that when you go into Google you have no idea what you are searching for and need Google to provide you with some results, for a couple of random words?

If either of the above are the case, why are you using Google? Wait a computer for that matter? Even a Keyboard? Stop looking at the screen OK!

Seriously though, if any of the above is true, and I doubt it, it would be the only reason I can see Google doing this. Attempting to improve search, where honestly I can’t see a problem. Maybe it was because users had some trouble searching, um, for what they were originally using Google for? Right…

Anyways, the whole thing seems a little odd. If you ask me, searching for something usually involves you typing in the whole phrase anyway… What does 2 seconds even 5 seconds help with, especially if the phrase is longer, you won’t get the results you want from instant.

I am laughing a bit about this – excuse me but LOL. The whole Google instant thing made me laugh when I first saw it, now it just annoys me.

How exactly did Google come to the decision that this was what they needed, or; excuse me, what the USER needed?

This is a guest post from Duncan who is an online marketing specialist and keen blogger representing an online vases retailer

There is a very common SEO technique for building links called “blog comment spamming”. This is very different from “blog commenting” and it is important that a distinction be made before we go any further. Blog commenting is taking a genuine interest in the blog post and leaving constructive feedback or questions in the comment section that ‘adds’ something to the post. Blog comment spamming on the other hand involves not evening reading the post in most cases and leaving some truly generic or mindless comment for the sole purpose of gaining a link. Most importantly, blog comment spamming often ‘takes’ something away from the post and in my opinion is not good for SEO for the following reasons.
1.) Power Falls Off Quickly
It would be very hard for me to preach about the flaws in blog comment spamming without having any experience of the technique. So, whilst I’m not particularly proud of the fact, and at the risk of sounding like a hypercritic, I have testing this technique properly. Initially I have seen gains in search engine rankings as a result of doing this, but in my experience there is very little longevity in the power given by such comment links. All the SEO techniques I use are aimed at providing sustainable results and comment spamming cannot provide this. If you are wanting to rank sites using comment spamming you are going to be stepping onto a treadmill that is very hard to get off, because if you stop running you and your site will fall flat on its face.

2.) Bad Public Relations
Despite how clever you think you’re being, spammy comment links stand out a mile and legitimate blog readers hate them as much as the blog owners themselves. You could probably get away with a few spammy links here and there, but once you start committing yourself to more regular spammy activity, you’re in real danger of hurting your credibility. Have a think about it…would your purchase the goods or services of a site that you have seen spamming blogs left, right and centre? Most people wouldn’t, so if you don’t want your brand damaged by cheap link building techniques, you should limit such activities.

Here is an example of blatent comment spam on one of the UK’s most powerful websites
3.) Google Knows
Lots of SEOs claim that Google (and other search engines) cannot tell the difference between spammy comment links and those links that are else ware on the page. I don’t believe this to be true, based largely on the evidence mentioned earlier about comment links losing their power relatively quickly. Additionally, Google is by no means stupid and can identify comment scripts very easily on most blogs. With this in mind, all it takes is for Google to decide they want to seriously de-value all comment links and wham! There goes all your “hard” work.

Link development is one of many important parts to increase blog visibility in internet world. Link development is term for our way to get real quality back link for site. The quality back link will boost our blog rank as well as get quality traffic in internet. In my opinion, the real quality back link is one way link that comes from high rank site in our blog related niche. High rank is term for high quality and traffic (popular) site. But, it is really difficult to have this real quality back link if our blog is still new with no so many quality contents yet. It is even almost impossible that there are some quality site wants to provide the real quality back-link for your new blog except if you are a very famous person or pay for it. Here i share how new blog can build their link:

Exchange Link

Okay, as new blogger we do not need to be afraid. We still can boost our new blog rank with many not so ideal ways. Our new blog still can get some rank boost by do link exchange with another blog in our blog related niche. Yes, the link exchange is not as ideal as one way back link but it is still worthy to increase our blog rank. I suggest that we do link exchange base on quality over then quantity. Base on quality mean that we focus do link exchange with good rank site in our blog niche.

I really do not suggest to link exchange with high rank unrelated niche site even if it still may help increase our blog rank. It is because too much unrelated niche outbound link will damage our blog rank in long term. So, in my opinion, it is worthy to focus do exchange link in our blog niche even the site not so high rank than try to do exchange link with high rank site which not in our blog niche. Please note that we must not do too many link exchanges in first time. It is to keep outbound link from our blog low. I suggest that we keep the outbound link as low as possible before our blog have many good quality contents.

Do Follow Forum Signature

We also can increase our new blog rank by use signature in do follow high rank forums. Our blog always can get some quality back link from it beside also get the significant traffic. We also can put a link to our blog post in forum comment form as long as the blog post related with the discussion. Please note that it is better if the forums have related niche with our blog. I, my self, already active in several quality forums for a long time and build some quality back link and traffic for my blog. I suggest you to start from some local forum and then you also can try global forum such as digital point or sitepoint forum.

I surely do not only gain back link and traffic from forums, but I also learn many thing that I can use to improve my blogging. So, it always worthy allocate our time to be active member in some quality do-follow forums, and it is still worthy even in no-follow forum as long as the forum have the quality content for your blog niche. Yeah – we still can get benefit from it with all of useful knowledge and quality traffic. I, my self, get many ideas from no-follow forums discussion for my blog post. So, even that the no-follow forum do not increase blog rank it is still worthy for traffic and post idea.

Do Follow Blog Commenting

We can also gain blog rank and traffic by put quality comment in do-follow high rank blog/site. This way is almost as same as do-follow forums which I already explain above. And as in do-follow forums, the optimum result always comes from do-follow blog in our blog niche. Please not that we must not spam the do-follow blog. We must always give the quality comment on it. It is because high rank do-follow blog usually moderate the comment. The do-follow blog admin only accept related and quality comment, other than it will be rejected immediately. Therefore, do not waste our time to spam on high rank do-follow blog.

Blog Directories Submitting

Our blog rank also can increase by submit our blog to do-follow quality blog directories. Please be careful to choose the directories. Always submit your blog to quality blog directories because there are so many spam directories out there. Spam directories will harm your blog rank for sure, and it can even put your blog in sand box of search engine. So, you should always do your research carefully before submit your blog in link directories. And do not forget to always ensure that the link directories really give the back link for your blog. You can check the back link in Yahoo site explorer or Google webmaster. I would suggest BlogEngage.com as your starting point.

Guest Posting

There are many great high rank blog out there that accept guest posting – like this blog. Guest posting usually allows us to put some link in our guest posting post. It is a really a worthy back link to our new blog. Of course, it is needed a great killing article to be accepted in high rank guest post blog – especially if we are just unknown new blogger. Guest posting will also drive significant quality traffic to our blog for sure. In my opinion, Guest posting is the best way to gain great result for our blog link development if compare with others four ways that I already mention before. We can enlarge benefit from guest posting by do guest posting in various blog in our niche. It will give a good reputation around our niche beside the quality back link and traffic.

Conclusion

Link development is important thing that we must build to increase our new blog visibility in internet crowd. Success Link development will surely drive ton of traffic to our blog from search engine. It is because link development improves our blog rank in search engine eyes.

There are many ways to do link development – I share five of it in this article. We can do the entire link development tips in simultaneously or we can choose to do some base on our needs and our ability. In my opinion, our blog niche may affect which link development tip work great for our blog. We can do trial and error if we do not know which tips the best for our blog.

That’s all update this time, wait for next update!

Sometime back I wrote a post about making the most of your RSS feed, now it’s time for a little advice on using your RSS feed with FeedBurner and Comment Luv, two very useful sites that will improve your linkbacks when you post on other blogs.

Ok let’s get started, first of all you must grab the Comment Luv plugin for WordPress or Blogger, it’s simple to install just stop by the Comment Luv website to get you hands on it.

So why have Comment Luv on your blog?

It allows your readers to leave a link when they comment on your blog to their most recent post and if you’re commenting on other blogs that use it, then it’s only fair that you give a little linky love back

Using FeedBurner for your RSS Feeds

Now this probably the most important thing for you to day when commenting on other blogs using the Comment Luv plugin, by default when you “burn” your RSS feed with FeedBurner your URL links will not show the URL of your recent post but instead to the FeedBurner address of the post, which is what you don’t want! I mean if you going to comment on a DoFollow blog using the Comment Luv plugin you want the linky luv to go to your blog, not the FeedBurner URL.

So you will need to tell FeedBurner to use your URLs, this is easy to do:

Log into your FeedBurner account and select Configure Stats, then uncheck item link clicks (see below), now when you comment on a blog using comment Luv your recent post link will now be the URL of your blog post and not a redirect via FeedBurner..

So there you have it, one more thing to add. If you are blogging, but also have a main site then make sure that search engines and RSS readers can find the feed to your blog on your main site, simple do this by adding a simple bit of code to the pages on your main site:

<link rel=”alternate” type=”application/rss+xml” title=”RSS” href=”YOUR FEED ADDRESS HERE” />

Simple replace the YOUR FEED ADDRESS HERE with your feed for example mine for Blazing Minds would be

<link rel=”alternative” type=”application/rss+xml” title=”RSS” href=”http://blazingminds.co.uk/feed/” />

Then whenever someone visits you main site they will now from the browsers search box that an RSS feed is available

Now I have been using EntreCard for a long time now and I must be one of the few “Droppers” that actually visits a site, stays for a while and even leaves a comment if the posts interest me, but the problem is those “Droppers” that speed drop!

The trouble with speed droppers is that they land on your site hit drop and then bugger off! Which is not really good for your blogs bounce rate, ok, I may be sending this right over people heads right now, so I would recommend reading the Wiki about Bounce Rate to find out what it is, but to cut a story short, bounce rate is the amount of time a visitor stays on your blog before moving onto another site etc.

The aim is for you to try to analyze and reduce your Bounce rate, but with EntreCard dropping this is a hard task, due to the problem with speed droppers, there is not much you can do about the EntreCard droppers that just drop and run, but there are ways to improve Bouce Rate with other visitors, so it’s a matter of a little work to get a better Bounce Rate for your blog.

So the question is will a bad Bounce Rate affect your Google search ranking etc? Well some say yes and some say no, so I’m too sure myself, but it is a thought that you have to take with you when blogging or even building your home page on your website, will the content cause your viewer to stay or just shoot straight to another website, before giving you blog/site a chance.

I personally am considering the thoughts that EntreCard is damaging my Bouce Rate and overall search engine rankings, but then again, it helps my Google Advertising with hits etc, so I’m 50/50 at the moment, it’s a “time will tell” situation, so I think I may wait to see how the next Google Page Rank goes and how the searches are coming in before I do anything major..

First of all, my apology to those of you that stop by for the Saturday Six yesterday and for my lack of posting since Wednesday.

This was all due to my very busy schedule, I have been working on the SEO and website design of the Remergence website and the release of a Best Of album, so this has taken up a lot of my valuable time, the SEO work is now complete and now it’s just a wait for fans to choose their favourite tracks.

So hopefully now I can get back to my usually blogging, the Saturday Six will be back next week, so remember to suggest a them via my Twitter and if you are an a EntreCard user then the chosen EC user of the selected theme will get 200 ECs.

If you are interesting in getting backlinks from blogs where you post your comments then probably the best way is to post comments on a blog that is “DoFollow”.

A simple way to find out is to download a FireFox plugin called “SearchStatus“, this is an extremely handy plugin, not only will it highlight all the Nofollow Links on a page so that you can see what is a DoFollow link, but, it also display a websites Google PageRank, It’s Alexa rank and it’s Compete Rank.

It also have loads of other features such as showing a sites whois listing, Meta Tags, link report and much more.

So if you are serious about for commenting on DoFollow blogs then this is a FireFox plugin that I would personally recommend SearchStatus.

Technorati Tags: backlinks, FireFox plugin, DoFollow, Google PageRank, Alexa rank, Compete Rank, Meta Tags, DoFollow blogs, SEO, website seo
