How To Customize The URL Shortener and Set Tweet Times On Dlvr It

Now those of you who have been reading Blazing Minds over the years will have seen a review I did about the website dlvr.it, a site for distributing your blog on social networks etc and how you can promote your fellow bloggers to your audience of Tweeters etc, bringing them interesting blog posts that they may not usually see.

One of the things that I found interesting is the way that you can customize the URL shortener that you wish to use, not only can you opt for the “dlvr.it” or “bit.ly” but you can also use third-party shorteners for your Tweets.

As an example I’m going to show you how easy it is to set up one for Su.Pr the Stumbleupon shortener.

Setting Up Your Third Party Shortener

Log in to your dlvr.it account and click on Settings, then on Short Links, this is where you manage your shorteners and add new ones, so let’s get on with adding your Su.Pr shortener.

Click on the green box that says “+ Add Shortener”

In the boxes that I’ve highlighted add the same as above, this will now have you set up to have su.pr as your URL shortener, now when setting up or customizing your feeds you will have the option of using the su.pr shortener.

Scheduling Your Tweets

If you have found that there are certain times of the day when your tweets are responded to more that other times, then you can schedule you tweet with dlvr.it.

When you are adding or editing a “source” you will see the option for scheduling, it’s so easy to do, all you do is set the days and the time frame that you would like these tweets to go out from the source feed.

As you can see from the options I’ve set up above, I have set a feed up to go out between 12PM and 11PM Monday to Friday. That’s all there is to it really, simple to update and set up on different feeds.

Of cause you can set your times for days of the week, have different times for the weekend and so on and so forth, so you can have different source feeds going at your set times giving you much more control over when and what you decide to tweet.

Top Places And Ways To Promote Your Blog

Earlier today I had a tweet from @missus_emm from the blog Emm In London, which inspired me to answer her question via a blog post here on Blazing Minds and in the meantime hopefully helping out some other fellow bloggers with an answer to her question:

If you’ve just written that awe-inspiring blog post and you want to get it out in to the world then doing a bit of blog promotion will certainly help and getting people to see your latest blog post will certainly help, so please read on about just some of the methods I use myself for getting my blog posts out in to the world of the internet.

So on to my Top sites and ways to promote your blog

BlogEngage – This has always been a favourite of mine, not only for the fact that it’s a great service and run by a fellow blogger, @bbrian017, but it’s community is second to none, everyone helps each other and it’s a great source of useful information. One of the extremely useful things about BlogEngage is its RSS Syndication Service, which will grab you latest feed and automatically submit it to, not only BlogEngage, but also to Blog Serp, Top Blogged, RSS Leak, Blogger Ink, Tag Serp and Blogger Tag. Giving your blog even more backlinks and potential hits.

StumbleUpon – I do get quite a lot of traffic from StumbleUpon and by using the WP Plugin “Twitter Tools” and the su.pr shortener for Twitter Tools, my tweets will automatically be ready to be stumbled by anyone viewing the post via the su,pr shortener, all helping with an increase in pageviews and possible future comments on blog posts.

CMFAds – Yes this does send me traffic and with the new fireworks system, CMFAds now sends me more traffic that it has in the past, though you do buy your Ads it does come ranking quite high on sites that are referring traffic.

Twitter – By tweeting out your blog post, you can get views from Twitter and also by utilising sites such as Triberr you can increase you potential visitors by those in your “Tribe” posting out your latest blog posts as tweets as well. Though this it’s not perfect as some people will miss your tweets if they are following loads of people, it’s still an ideal place to promote your latest posts.

FaceBook – Submitting your latest posts on your own wall, your own page and even in to blogging groups that you may have joined is a great way of getting your posts seen, commented on and shared.

Blokube and Blog Interact – Both similar to Blog Engage, but you must submit your article yourself or let others do so via buttons on your blog, such as the ones here on Blazing Minds.

Social Bookmarking Sites – There are so many bookmarking sites out there, such as Digg etc. That submitting to all of them is quite time-consuming, this is where something like OnlyWire comes in helpful, this handy website/software will allow you to submit your latest masterpiece to around 40 sites including StumbleUpon, Reddit and Yahoo.

CommentLuv – Well, all blogs in general really, by leaving good comments on blogs that have CommentLuv enabled you can get some good backlinks and most bloggers will visit your blog via the link left, so this works both ways for the you and those that use it.

All those above that I have mentioned are what I currently use myself and I’ve found them to be useful in not only traffic and comments, but also for the purpose of study, by using sites such as BlogEngage you can find some fantastic subject that you may be interested in, comment on the posts and improve your friendship with like-minded bloggers.

Of course you have to remember that having interesting blog posts also helps and if you have something interesting to read and the title of the posts jumps out at the reader then this also helps. It’s not just a case of submitting to everywhere, it’s a case of having something that people want to read and if your blog is uninteresting then, submitting it everywhere isn’t really going to help, but then again, I could be wrong.

A Slight Update to the Author Box to Include a New Twitter Button!

Some of you may have noticed that the author box at the foot of the blog posts here on Blazing Minds has had a slight update and it now has several social network buttons for you to share the posts.

Why Did I Add These Buttons?

Well for starters is was a bit of an experiment on my part, sometime back I wrote a blog post about the New Twitter button and how I had tweaked it a bit to work with the Guest Bloggers here on my blog, so I thought it was about time that I implemented this into the blog and I thought adding it to the Author box was the perfect place. Also this gives room to add a couple of other button to flesh out the author box a bit more.

Why Have A New Twitter Button In The Author Box?

If you have read the post I mentioned above, the tweaking of the button allows you to tweet the post to Twitter, but instead of tweeting the default Tweeter @BlazingMinds which is myself, it now tweets the post but with the Guest Bloggers Twitter name, giving them the full recognition for the post they have written, it’s only fair that they get the mention after all it’s their time spent writing and submitting the article

As you can see from the image above, I’ve not only added the Twitter button, but also StumbleUpon and BlogEngage, hopefully this will encourage readers to read the bio and then share the article.

In time I may tweak the Twitter button more to even include my own Twitter, but for now, I’m just testing this out.

Do You Share The Blog Posts That You Read?

You’ve probably seen them, hell, I even have them here on Blazing Minds, I’m talking about social network share buttons.

Nearly every blog you visit has them these days and though us bloggers do love to have them on our blogs for those kind enough to click on to share a bit of love and Stumble, ReTweet, Digg, Like ……….. and the list goes on.

As you will see, here on Blazing Minds I have the SexyBookmarks plugin at the bottom of the blog post where readers can share the post they are enjoying on a selection of sites for others to find and also share and though there is a choice there to choose from I was wondering what sites people use the most and which ones are worth having which are not.

So when you’ve finished reading this bloggy post, check out the buttons and use the ones you are listed with, then leave me a comment letting me know which ones you think you would remove, which ones you would like to see and why, then I can take a look to see what are more popular than others.

I have tried to add the popular ones that I use such as Twitter, BlogEngage, StumbleUpon, Digg, Ping.fm and so on, but I’d love my readers input

Blazing Minds Interviews Gautam Hans from Blog Godown

Welcome to another interview in my new series, as mentioned previously each week I will be interviewing a fellow blogger who has kindly answered my blogging questions, so let’s get on with it… This week I interview Gautam Hans from Blog Godown.

Q: Please tell my readers a little something about yourself?
A: I am gautam hans, 21 years old, India. I am an engineering student from Delhi University. I am a person with varied interests, but i love blogging, internet, social media,technology and web design.

Q: Hi Gautam, so tell me about your blog, when and why you started it and how you came up with the name for it?
A: I had started blogging way back in 2006 when i saw a video at cnet which talked about making money online through blogging. I first started a personal blog and then a money making blog but i realized that this is not my niche.
I started professional blogging in 2009. I had named my blog as Blog Godown. Blog Godown mainly provides tips and resources for bloggers. Godown is a place where all the material is stored and so my blog is a godown for all the blogging resources.

Q: Do you find blogging takes up a lot of your time?
A: Blogging can take a large amount of time but you have to manage it well. I use some of time in blogging and rest in marketing and Social Media

Q: Where would you say most of your traffic comes from for your blog?
A: Most of my Blog’s traffic comes from Google search and Twitter. Rest i get from sites where i comment on a regular basis.

Q: Do you use social networks to promote your blog and if so which ones would you recommend to other bloggers?
A: I use social media on a regular basis, and it has been a great traffic source for my blog. I do get a lot of new visitors from Twitter as well as Stumbleupon.

Q: If you could give some useful advice to new bloggers, what would it be?
A: One Advice i want to give to Bloggers, is to be patient, do your bit, write good content and market it. The Results will follow.

StumbleUpon Sucks!!! Big Time!!!

Now recently on the advice from ExtremeJohn on his post about StumbleUpon I decided to join, downloaded the handy FireFox plugin and set on my merry way of Stumbling on sites, blogs etc that I was visiting and enjoying!

Then lo and behold the other day I had an email informing me that my account had been suspended, banned from Stumbleupon, don’t ask me why, I’ve no idea, I was clicking the “Thumbs Up” in the Toolbar of sites I like, not doing anything wrong there surely!

I even sent StumbleUpon a message via their feedback option, as mentioned in their email, but nothing, no response at all! So if this is the way that they treat users, then as far as I’m concerned then they do indeed suck big time, I have surfed today and found several bloggers that have had similar problems, my advice to anyone wanting to use StumbleUpon is DON’T, use BlogEngage instead, where you get a response when needed, not just ignored

What the heck am I on about?

Well to put it simply the other day I was over at blog of Extreme John and reading his post “Stumble Upon Me and I Do Follow and Stumble You” so I decided to get on over to StumbleUpon and sign up as BlazingMinds, what can I say, I’ve had loads of hits coming in from StumbleUpon.

It’s great to see that I’ve had new visitors to the blog and that some have decided to join in and comment on various blog posts, thanks guys, you know who you are

So will this make a difference to my blogging, well probably, after reading “10 ways to achieve a winning first paragraph for your article” over at Smart Bloggerz, I decided to change my writing style bit by bit and hopefully my posts are now a lot more informative and interesting to read.

So thanks Extreme John your insight has paid off
