First let me introduce you to Tweetdeck

If you are a blogger you properly also have a Twitter account where you promote yourself or maybe even multiple accounts. After a while it can be a lot of work to keep up with those accounts and tweets and the default www.twitter.com solution does not add much support for multiple accounts and a lot more than that. That is where Tweet Deck comes to the rescue. It is a little application you install on your PC. When it is installed you can configure multiple Twitter accounts and configure different kind of views for your twitter stream.

Get the full picture with Tweetdeck

On the picture below you can see I have configured 3 columns in my Tweetdeck.
The first one is called All Friends and simply just shows tweet from all people I follow. The second column is showing tweets only from bloggers that are on my customized list called “Favorites-Bloggers”.

This is a great way to see what the people I admire the most are tweeting and still have the possibility to follow all the people I follow in the left column. The last column I have configured is “Mentions”. This column shows every time someone has mentioned my Tweetname in a tweet. I is the same you can see on your normal twitter account but here you can see it without moving away from your normal twitter stream.

Support for other social networks

Not only does Tweetdeck support multiple Twitter accounts it does also support other social networks. It makes it possible to add e.g. your Facebook account to Tweetdeck as well.

Tweetdeck for smartphones

Tweetdeck is also available for iPhone and Android smartphone, but it is not a part of this review. Tweetdeck is also available as an extension for the Google Chrome browser I you prefer that.

Additional configuration:

Another great thing about Tweetdeck is that it gives you some extra configuration options. Here are my 3 favorite tweaks for Tweetdeck:

Show the numbers of followers on all users below their picture.

Use Autocomplete for usernames when you write a tweet.

Play an alert sound notification when someone mentions you in a tweet.

All the above is available under settings and can add extra value to your TweetDeck experience.

That was all for me today. Now I would like to activate your guys a bit. Let me hear how you Tweet? Do you use Tweetdeck or another program for your Tweets? If you have not yet tried TweetDeck you should go ahead and download it.

If you are a heavy Twitter user like I am you know them all. The Hootsuites, the SocialOomph or Tweetdeck scheduling functions. Even though their functions are golden if one isn’t neglecting to engage and participate in the conversation, it is quite a hassle to schedule each tweet individually I found.

So let me therefore introduce you to a new App, which will save you the hassle of time-setting and scheduling once and for all. It’s a very simple tool called Buffer.

The 3 Main Differences to other Apps:

- There is no need to schedule each tweet individually, you simply add to Buffer and your tweets are scheduled for your throughout the day

- You can add tweets to your Buffer from any page you are on with browser extensions (Chrome, Safari, Firefox)

- You receive detailed stats about how well your tweets sent via Buffer performed

Browser extension in action

Whenever you are reading an interesting article you can give it one click on the Buffer icon and add to your Buffer. For example I wanted to share Karen’s post, here is what happens:

Combine Buffer with your favourite Twitter Client

Buffer will enhance your experience on Twitter greatly, by giving you a consistent Twitter stream, which also doesn’t create an information overload for your followers.

In my case, teaming up Tweetdeck and Buffer works wonders, so I believe it is important to point out Buffer is not an “instead of your favourite Twitter client” tool.

Your Tweets Performance

Interested to learn how well your tweets did? Buffer will tell you with analytics for clicks, retweets and reach of your tweets. Here is a set of recent stats for my tweets.

How to best use Buffer

Buffer is a powerful time saver for me. So for example every morning I am searching my favourite blogs for new updates. Instead of putting my account on a blast, tweeting these great findings all at once, I simply add to Buffer.

The power lies that you can very easily add lots of tweets to your Buffer at one point and you will then be tweeting consistently for the whole day.

Timing your Tweets

By default Buffer will send out your tweets at Peak Twitter times, however you can of course always go back to your home account at www.bufferapp.com and change them to your needs. You can add more timeslots or delete some. Here are mine:

What do you think about Buffer? Would it be a good match for your existing Twitter Toolbox? I hope you will give it a go and let me know your views below.

This is a question that I have been asked before by loads of my friends and I thought I would write a short post on my tips for your mass of DMs or Direct Messages that you may have building up on your Twitter profile.

First of all your DMs shouldn’t really give you any cause for concern, even though they may be a bit of a pain to have loads, they are generally not a problem, but, if you do want to get rid of them, there is sadly no option on Twitter to delete multiple DMs, so how do you do it?

Some time ago you used to be able to use a program called DM Whacker, but sadly this no longer works on twitter, so my advice would be to use SocialOomph (formally TweetLater), besides been able to do stacks of other things, you can also “purge” your list of DMs from Twitter.

You have a choice of all DMs, older than 7 days and older than 30 days, so you can keep some that you may deem important. Yes it’s that simple.

But remember once your DMs are deleted, that’s it, you will not be able to get them back, they are gone for over, so be careful you don’t delete messages that you want to keep

There is time when you are following or are followed by that many people of [intlink id="109" type="category"]Twitter[/intlink] that sometimes you get bombarded with complete Spam, you know the stuff, sending you direct messages about joining 140 bands etc. So there comes a time when you need to sift out these possible spammers and block them from your Twitter Timeline.

One way of doing this is with a website called TwitChuck.

It’s easy to use TwitChuck, just log in with your Twitter account via Twitter Oauth and then your off, simply select SpamChuck and TwitChuck will give you the option of checking your Friends, Followers or Everyone. So just select which one you want and click on it.

SpamChuck will then display possible Twitter Spammers and display them for you, then it’s up to you if your block them all or de-select those that you would like to keep.

There is also an option to do a single search for a Twitter User, by simply entering the Twitter name, you then get a screen with some information on it, including a score for the Tweeter. As far as I can see the number changes colour as it’s get closer to been a spammer, so Blue is ok, but RED is possibly a spammer, so check them out before you block them

So there you go another Twitter Tool for you to organize you tweeters with, but as will all Twitter Tools use it wisely and do not abuse the system as this may cause twitter to think that you are being very naughty and suspend you..

Now those of you that are avid readers of my blog will have noticed that the other day I posted about my earnings for April, shortly after posting that article I starting checking out another site that some of you may find useful if you are using URL shorteners when you are Tweeting on Twitter.

The site is called Adf.ly it allow you to earn every time your tweet, using the adf.ly link is clicked, so I thought I would check it out a little further.

It’s a simple site to use, all you do is enter the URL you wish to shorten, very much like other websites that do the same thing and viola your URL is shrunk and will now earn each time it is clicked, simples

Your link will look something like this: http://adf.ly/48668/mylikes and when clicked will first go to an advertisers site before going to your chosen link, though there is a “Skip Ad” button on the page, so your clickers don’t have to sit through the Ads, now I’m not going to say this will make you loads of money and the Ads may get on peoples nerves, but it is another way of earning from your blogging and tweeting etc.

Now on to the important thing, how much will you earn?

On my test of the website one of my links had 11 clicks and has earned $0.01450 not much I know, but bearing in mind that the minimum payout for the site is $5 then I suppose that’s not too bad. So it roughly means that for every 1,000 visitors earns $2, not much I know, but every little helps.

So what do you think, is it worth using or do your prefer sites such as bit.ly to shorten your links?

Yes I have been a busy little bee lately, not only have I tweeked the blog to show a handy little box when you hover over a twitter name in the comments section But, I have also started a Twibbon for those that like the blog so much they can show their support.

So how does this Twibbon work?

Well most of you have probably already seen a Twibbon in action, once you show your support a little “Twibbon” will appear on your Twitter avatar, in the case of Blazing Minds it’s a small version of the Blazing Minds Twitter avatar, it’s really that simple.

So if you do like the blog and would like to show your support which I’m really hoping you will, then please stop by the Blazing Minds Twibbon and show your support

Now you’ve probably seen titles like this on blogs before, but I’m not kidding, since joining the website MyLikes and using it to show followers what I like as well as some sponsored tweets, the website has paid for my Web Hosting for the last few months, which is brilliant.

If you haven’t heard of MyLikes then let me tell you what it is….

Mylikes is an advertising platform that allows Twitters to tweet their likes, this can be anything from a website through to everyday items, for example I have “MyLiked” [intlink id="review-skechers-shape-ups-walking-on-air" type="post"]Skechers[/intlink], Avatar, [intlink id="ez-combs-simply-effective-hairstyles" type="post"]EZ Combs[/intlink] and loads more. Not only can you select anything that you want, you can also “MyLike” sponsored tweet and posts, which are simple to do and earn you a little money for your efforts.

I don’t tweet too many sponsored tweets with MyLikes but those that I have done, have earned me enough each month to cover my hosting at EvoHosting. Each sponsored tweet you make is a CPC tweet, so to earn from these you have to have clicks, obviously the more people that follow you and the more that click on the link or ReTweet it for others to click, will earn you more.

Since using MyLikes I’ve seen the lowest CPC as $0.05 and the highest at $0.53 and as I’ve mentioned before, just by using MyLikes I’ve paid for the hosting of this blog and for the Remergence website, so it’s helping me out.

MyLikes is a great little earner and is ideal for twitters everywhere, but remember as with most advertising sites you use, don’t over do it, don’t tweet ads too much as this really puts off your followers, try to limit it to at least one a day, with MyLikes they will only allow you to post one sponsored tweet every 24 hours, so you can’ over do it, but you are using other sponsored tweet sites as well, then just be careful.

Many thanks to DragonBlogger for the kind permission to use the banner from his blog..

Friday seems to come round quicker everyweek and I, like so many others, like to give my support to those that have been kind enough to me over the week by ReTweeting my posts etc, and it can be quite daunting sorting out a list of those that have. and then working out which of the Twitters have retweeted the most or mentioned you the most times over that week and if you are very popular on twitter it can be even more of a task .

So while searching the net I came across a handy [intlink id="retweet-rt-twitter" type="post"]Twitter Tool[/intlink] called FollowFriday Helper…

Once you have logged in with your Twitter account via Twitter Oauth, you can start recommending those Twitters that have been kind enough to have ReTweeted your tweets, mentioned you, ReTweets you’ve made to other Tweeters and even those that have already recommended you in the past, it’s simply to do and when you make your choice a list is loaded up with the Twitters avatar, bio, URL, location and other information about how many tweets they have mentioned you with etc. You can even see the tweets they have made about you, very handy when you want to know what they have tweeted or retweeted.

But the really nice thing that I like about Twitter FollowFriday Helper, is that it’s not just for FollowFriday, you can use it for a selection of other preset hashtags – #FollowFriday #ff #ThankYou #TY #Gratitude #Top #FollowSaturday #FollowSunday #FollowMonday #FollowTuesday #FollowWednesday #FollowThursday #FollowNow #FollowEveryDay #MustFollow #FollowerOfTheDay – plus, you can add your own in the tweetbox, so really you can use it for anything you want, I select my recommendation and then add a line of text at the end saying why I recommend them and then you get a tweet like this:

So if you are looking for a Twitter Tool that will help you with making your FollowFriday recommendations then give this [intlink id="using-twitter-with-your-blogs" type="post"]Twitter Website[/intlink] a try, it’s easy to use and best of all it’s free, what more could you ask for

We’ve all probably done it, followed every single Twitter who has followed you, but this can sometimes seriously weaken your Twitter klout and viewing Tweets by those that you really are interested in.

Yesterday I wrote about “how to remove Twitter with no profile picture“, today I’m going to show you how you can vet your Twitter followers, weeding out the ones that you may not want to follow automatically, harsh as it sounds, not everyone is worth following.

So how can you Vet your Twitter Followers?

The way I found of doing this is by using the website SocialOomph, simply register and add your Twitter information, then once you have set up your account, you can now set up options to follow those that follow you, but, there is an option to Vet Followers and this is the option to use, as you can see from the image below.

Now you have to set up your settings for vetting Twitter followers, this will keep followers in a queue for three days giving you time to vet them, if you leave it then after three days the options you have made are performed.

It’s a technique that is for some and not for others, but if want a little control over your Twitter automation then this is certainly an option that you can take, there probably are other ways of doing this across the net, but this is just one that I have used in the past and found it very useful.

So, you may have noticed that a couple of days ago I added a new widget into my blogs sidebar, if you didn’t then let me tell you about it a little more..

The widget is called “TweetRoll” and can be found on the website TweetBurn, it a handy widget that you can add to your blog/website that display not only your SponsoredTweets button but also show your twitter followers and a “follow me on twitter” link, which is very important to all us Twiter users

So how did I come across this widget?

Well I was going through my Twitter ReTweets and was visiting the blog of Twitter Friend Cornyman, who had kindly ReTweeted a couple of my tweets, while reading his post “TOP 3 Online money making Scams” I noticed the nice little widget on the side of his blog and thought to myself, now that could come in very useful

So what does this widget do?

Putting it simply the widget will show your Twitter followers on your sidebar, or anywhere else you wish to display it, but the thing which really grabbed my attention was the Sponsor a Tweet button! Now I use SponsoredTweets and it is a good source of revenue for any Twitter to use. So having a quick and easy way for visitor to see how much I charge for a SponsoredTweet and a button that is visible and easy to click on, really appealed to me.

Now I’m not saying that this is for everyone, but TweetRoll is fully customizable, so it can be made to fit in seamlessly into your blog. So if you are on Twitter and using SponsoredTweets then this widget is certainly one that you should consider placing on your blog

Now a lot of us on Twitter, including myself @BlazingMinds, tweet with the FollowFriday hash tag to let our followers see who we recommend to follow on Twitter, but are you using the hashtag correctly.

I’ve seen many twitters tweeting with #ff this is all very well and good, but did you know that if you use the #FollowFriday hashtag you’ll get a little bit of extra linkage for your twitter, what you didn’t know, then let me know how.

If you use the #FollowFriday hashtag you will get added to the list of twitters using it on the website TopFollowFriday here all the twitters using the tag will be listed with who has endorsed them, who you have endorsed and more.

This is really useful to see your [intlink id="list-twitter-followers-recommend" type="post"]FollowFriday[/intlink] recommendations, it also has a top 100 of twitters who are using the tag or have been mentioned with the #FollowFriday tag.

So remember when you are using the FollowFriday Twitter tag, use the full title, not the #ff this way you will get listed and found it what can be described as a FollowFriday directory of twitters that are recommending friends, followers and twitters they like on Twitter.

UPDATED 26/2/2010

A special thanks to @cornyman for letting me know that #ff is accepted at TopFollowFriday, so now it’s entirely up to you Also it has to be the 1st word in a tweet, if someone RTs the #ff the RT should be at the end of the tweet or it won’t count as #ff

Many of you who follow me on Twitter (BlazingMinds) will of noticed that I ReTweet quite a few blog posts from time to time and you mat be wondering why I do this.

Well putting it simply, not only does re-tweeting fellow twitters benefit you on twitter by increasing your presence, but it also shows your appreciation to the [intlink id="some-handy-twitter-websites" type="post"]twitter[/intlink] who has taken the time to produce a well written blog post that you have found interesting enough to tweet people about.

These days the majority of blogs have a ReTweet button on the blog, so each time you visit a blog, show the author that you enjoyed the post that not only have you commented on the post, but you have also ReTweeted it for your readers to read and hopefully do the same.

Remember, if you are going to ReTweet blog posts at least take the time to read them, I have seen some twitter accounts where they have ReTweeted between blog posts in a matter of seconds, obviously not reading the posts and just hitting the RT button, read then posts! You may find out something interesting or useful.

Of course you can also annoy your followers by ReTweeting as an example my good friend @ExtremeJohn has a great following on Twitter of over 5,000. Using a tool such as “Should I Retweet?” give me the following results (click on the image for a bigger view).

So as you can see and RT would be new to 3227 people but could annoy 170, which is a small amount, so that’s ok So Retweeting a post from ExtremeJohn would give those results this is due to 5% of my followers also follow ExtremeJohn.

But my adage is, if you enjoy a blog post then you should comment when possible and always Retweet it on Twitter

Those of you that have read my blog over the past few months will of notice I have done a few [intlink id="565" type="category"]Blogging Tips[/intlink] as well as a collection of [intlink id="109" type="category"]Twitter Tips[/intlink] so I thought It was about time that I mentioned a way of helping others in a tip to seeing your new followers and what do with them via the TweetDeck platform.

TweetDeck is your personal browser for staying in touch with what’s happening now, connecting you with your contacts across Twitter, Facebook and more.

Not only can you have a collection of columns that you can show your groups/lists, direct messages, search queries, replies etc, but you can also add a column for new Twitter Follows and this is what can be very useful for sorting out your new Twitter Follows..

So for starters you will need to click the Add column button this will open up the screen for adding new columns to your TweetDeck, then you need to click the “core” button to give you a list of Twitter options.

What you then need to do is make sure you are using the correct Twitter username, if you have multiple accounts, then select the “[intlink id="twitter-followers" type="post"]New Followers[/intlink]” option.

This will now open a new column at the end of your other columns on TweetDeck and will now list new followers of your chosen Twitter account, now you can use this to column to choose who you want to follow back, unfollow, block and even add to lists or groups.

So how can you use this column to follow back your Twitter Followers?

It’s quite simple really under each new follower there are several links you can link on, first is the users Twitter profile link, next is [+] this is for adding the Tweeter to one or more of your groups and/or lists, next is “block” this will block the Tweeter and finally “follow” or “unfollow” if you are already following them.

So when you get new followers you can decide from Tweetdeck whether you want to follow them back or unfollow them, also hovering over the Tweeters profile picture will allow your to mention them in a tweet, DM them, block or block and report spam to Twitter.

I do find this an extremely useful column to have running on Tweetdeck not only does it let me know who is following me, but I can decide there and then from Tweetdeck if I want to follow them back or not, which gives me an instant control over those that are following me while I am using Tweetdeck and as I have the program running while my computer is on, it’s always giving me the option to do what I want.

So there you have it, a simple way using a great Twitter Tool to help you organize your Twitter Followers, it’s easy to do and if you are using TweetDeck it already for you to add
